Well, I guess 'Heir appointment' would be the easiest way, but that is out of reach for me, even theoretically.
People's revolution could bring me into serious trouble with the US and I don't wanna part of an 'Axis of Evil'.
Installed by US and Mob rule are no option for me due to moral issues.
What do you mean with Military Conquest? Isn't that the same as a coup d'etat if you refer to internal power struggles? Both is not my favourite though.

Yeah right, the only thing people would revolt about nowadays is if they had their TV schedule disrupted.
Technically, though, that could go somewhat hand in hand with honest elections. Somewhat like Yeltsin's rise to power.

However, an honest election will be easy to win once the voting age is lowered to 16 (which is being considered here). Everyone gets 4 free pop music singles when I'm elected. This should get me a large slice of Parliament. Then, I pass bills to replace the Monarchy with another figurative Head of State. Me.
Then, I vote to make the Head of State absolute ruler of the country.
Ta-da! Scott I, Evil Despot of Britain.
And if I'm lucky, the people will aquire an adequate mind set for Despotism, i.e. Ruling is a King/Despot's job. He's got a job, and he'd better do it good. No-one would bother me about being oppressive or such.

I will expand upon my original choice of the internal coup d'etat mixed with crooked elections to also incorporate a mass movement on the streets and in the community calling for strength, order and national glory.
There will be mass marches: Thousands of national flags and banners, particularly the Southern Cross banner, martial music and mass singing, fiery speeches, and the presence of thousands of tall, fit, blond, blue eyed, uniformed stormtroopers throughout the throng of the deliriously joyous people.
It shall culminate with a massive combination of all of these as Lord Darkshade appears at a torchlit rally to accept the entreaties of the nation to lead them to a glorious, triumphant future.
Well, it is a bit more dignified and traditional than playing Rage Against The Machine, or, as Gary Bauer called them "The Machine Rages On"
