Is leader 'creation' limited to one per unit or is it possible for a single elite unit to 'create' more than one leader if that same elite unit has more than one combat victory?

Also, can leaders be captured or killed by enemy units?

Thanks!

The game has no way of knowing which units have created elites earlier, and battle outcomes are in no way linked to the actual unit instances participating in the battle. Thus: one unit can generate an unlimited number of leaders.

Also, can leaders be captured or killed by enemy units?

A leader has 0 defence and will die if attacked unprotected (just like scouts).

Hmmm... I am not sure about this "unlimited number of leaders". AFAIR somewhere in the Civ III FAQ it is written that there may be only a limited number of leaders per game. It is almost proven that there can't be two leaders at the same time (but, however, there may be two leaders at the same turn - e.g. it happened to me: I saved my leader to hurry the United Nations and as soon as I had Fission I have done that - but at the same turn I had got a next one and I've used him to hurry the Manhattan Project).

I don't know if there is any limit but when playing a non-militaristic Civ I had max. 5 leaders and when playing Militaristic I had max. 10. It is interesting for me if it is possible to get more.

I have had more than 5 with a non-mil civ. Can remeber the total, but definatly more than 5

I once built every wonder after reaching Middle Ages with a leader.... they kept poping up everywhere..... so you can have more then 5 or 10.

However, since youc can`t have 2 at the same time (but you can have several in one turn) you usually won`t get two leaders from the same unit.

But: it can happen with units that can attack several times in one turn, and it happened to me with Modern Armor: I attacked, got a leader, ran him off and built a wonder, attacked with the units 2nd move, got another! Jsut fine with me :D

There are, as far as I know, no limits on the number of leaders you can generate in a game. There are a finite number of leader names for each civilization, but when you go through the entire list, it starts again at the beginning.

During one game when I was playing rather aggressively as the Germans, I obtained no less than three Hengests.
