Anyone want to be gracious enough to make an Assyrian leaderhead?

Ideally I would like it to be Tiglath-Pileser II

But I think most pictures of Assyrian leaderheads look the same, so any generic Assyrian would be cool

Here's Ashurbanipal

Thanks

its hair :)

yep :)

that said I would LOVE for someopne to do this leader head as well as the BEST idea for an assyrian UU- the seige archer-

One thing at a time ;)

Yes, I'm pretty sure that's hair.

Is my style (see Lenin) ok or would you prefer a 3d-model? If it's the latter, sorry, I can't help. If a static leaderhead with animated expressions is ok, I might be able to put something together.

I could use some information though - mainly skin and hair color.

Edit: also, moustache or not moustache? It's a little hard to tell from the pictures. Ashurbanipal looks like he has moustache like texture under his nose.

For example, how does this look? Ashurbanipal had more detail so it resembles him more. I've no clue about Assyrians so I'd like some critique about his looks. Clothes and background are there just for testing purposes.

It looks good. I think he should be a bit darker to look a bit more Middle Eastern, but I don't know for sure.

I guess a bit like Gilgamesh

For the clothing, I think it looks good, but he doesn't exactly look like a king. Since Assyrians were King-Generals, how difficult would it be to give him a similar armor to the one in the second picture?

What background is that?

Keep up the good work :)

Yep, I thought he was way too pale too. It's just that you become blind for your own work when you stare at it for hours. :)

Like I said, clothes are just for testing purposes. They will change. Background is one of the first matches for "desert village" in Google Picture Search. "the water is lossed.jpg"

I don't have much time to work with this before christmas, but I find it a fun project. If you would like a 3d-leaderhead, keep asking around, this is good entertainment and I won't take offense even if you didn't use my leaderhead. :)

BTW hair shown in the preview will change as it looks like crap.

ya know... after looking at Gilgamesh for a while, ad comparing him woith tthose statues... dosent Gilgy make a fine assyrian in his own right?

He does, but, if I plan to make an Assyrian civ, I want to say everything is made for Assyria.

Also, his beard isn't quite right.

I've complained about not having a scanner before, but there is a picture of Ashurbanipal that I have, and he happens to be wearing the same clothes as Gilgamesh as well!

I like the background, but I'll also look to see if I can find any specific Assyrian background.

Bear in mind that Gilgamesh was a Sumerian, a peoples who are generally regarded by historical consensus to be a non-Semitic people. The Assyrians on the other hand were a semitic people like the Babylonians and Arabs, so the Assyrians should look more like Hammurabi than Gilgamesh as seen in Civ III. What colour skin they had is anyones guess, but if I were you I would base it on Hammurabis or Xerxes.

And that Seige unit would rule Xen.:)

semetic, non-semetic, dosent matter any guy with a tan and a long beard looks about the same as anyother guy with a tan and a long beard

*as a note, I never have, and never will put any stock in the so called "races" of man for anything other then metaphors- there in only one race of man, and that is the human race

I am talking about ethnicity, I never once mentioned the dreaded 'race' word. I was just letting the modders know. An Asian Tsarina Catherine or Mesoamerican Caeser wouldn't look very authentic would it? Neither would it in this case, though only those with an idea of the peoples and historical reality would give a damn I suppose.

Perception of history is almost as important as historical accuracy, especially when it is difficult to tell for sure.

There is no reason to believe the Hammurabi Leaderhead is correct either.

And besides, whether he looks closer to Hammurabi, or closer to Gilgamesh, his skin tone needs to be darker.

Progress shot.

- Is the skin ok?
- Is it better without the hair? Or should the hair be changed in some way? The rings holding it together were a last minute change before writing this post.
- Is the beard ok?
- Joan's armor with a golden/bronze shade doesn't look very ancient, but it's again more of a test piece. The cap/helmet I'm not entirely happy with, but there is a slight lack of props in that department. It's made out Gilgamesh's hat. :)

Don't hesitate to criticize as it's the only way you'll see things made more of your way. :) I personally feel it's several steps in the right direction and I'm eager to work more on it. However, I'll be out of town for the next several days, so it'll be on hold for a while.

The invitation of criticism isn't limited to Louis XXIV only. If you see this thread and have something to say, say it. I like feedback and christmas is a time of sharing. :)
