Well, Warpus, you might be right. Or this map is wrong. This is an overview of gun politics worldwide.

Actually the map is flawed and far too simplistic to be informative, not to mention it's pathetically incomplete. The gun laws for most of the "no-info" states can be found on the web. Also, FWIW, the US should be colored purple, not blue.

The correlation is there, what you probably mean to question is causation.

Correlation is the word I meant and there is no correlation on the global scale.

Afaik one can only get a gun permit here if he is in one of these categories, and only after psychological evaluation:

1) member of a legal security service
2) seasonal hunter (permit for hunting rifle only)
3) (obvious) army or police force member

Not sure if there is any providence for arms strictly for civilian/individual self-defence, if one is not in any of the above categories.
