Did A.I. Players became more peaceful (or cautious), or less warlike than in early release. given that player incurs least grievances to various AI players (even with player's outlying settlements are literally right next to rival's capitol, winning citystate contests, spying or counterspying against.). in the two lastest plays. I hardly fight wars against any players. but some rivals do have some frictions. Playing as Hatshepsut (and running quite a large empire that occupies roughtly a quarter of home continent, I never go to war against anyone in First Age, but Augustus (Romans) did one or two wars against Jose Rizal (Tonga), At the beginning of Second Age, 'Catherine (Normans) wage war against Himiko (Majpahit), but competing to win Fashoda ruined my relationships with Catherine (it fells into Disapprovals) while Homoko is indifferent (because there's no such competitions, though I'm not ready to fight wars against her JUST YET, nor has any good reasons to do because I don't really know if she has an ally or my friends (Augustus and Rizal) can disapprove.

Your experiences in any play?

The game seems of moved from too aggressive to too peaceful.
I’ve read here that others note this with large maps (which I play on)
Have not tested on smaller ones

I just downloaded civ 4 and I got more attacked on it than when I do in civ 7.
It's still the one. A civilization game without conflict makes no sense at all. It is as if the rules of chess were changed so that neither side could cross the midline.

There are problems associated with map sizes. The game is clearly balanced around standard map size, so that's what I play.

Hopefully they can get everything scaling correctly for larger and smaller maps.

It's a shame the AI is so weak. After two full games with the 1.3.1 update, I don't want to play a third. Even if I disable the Culture Victory in the final era, the game feels boring. The AI doesn't seem to be striving to win in any way. Will they ever fix this?

I agree. In my last game, the only war I have seen was one that I declared. It has become a build build build game vs. a balance.

I wonder if they can go back to where they were in the previous patch. Or again, offer a "slider" or setting on AI military aggressiveness.

In my experience, the AI pursue the Economic victory consistently. In my last 4 games, one or two AI factions build factories and begin racking up Railroad Tycoon points. I lost a game to an AI Economic victory, because I let them get too far ahead; once they have reached 500 points, they will send the Banker around. Granted, that's two of the six AI players; no, I didn't wipe any out.

I do see the AI building Explorers and trying to race me to the relics. I don't know if they also collect the exhibits from Natural Wonders. I regularly see AI players building the first two stages of the Science victory.

To your point, I see more wars break out as the AI choose their ideology. The ones choosing Communism usually ally with each other, dragging them into the wars. In my current game, AI players are building up 10-ish points towards the Military victory. I have not seen them press their advantage *fast*, or in a coherent plan. The Modern Age includes a lot of "fill in the blanks" settling by the AI, as well as swapping towns in peace deals. No, if I have prioritized a strong military, I have not felt my homeland threatened by the AI. My far-flung, island towns? Yup, those get attacked.

In my experience playing Civ6 (~877 hrs), the AI would try to win by building something. Build apostles to convert my cities. Build Theatre Squares for Museums and tourism. Build allies and accumulate diplo points. They would consistently build spaceports, but slowly. But no, the Civ6 AI was never a military thread. If a Civ6 game lasts more than 300-350 turns, the AI is working towards a victory condition.

Overall, the human players are just very aggressive. Over in the Civ7 "fast science victory" thread, they talk about the best/fastest path including wiping out one -- often two -- AI civs to fill their space with towns. No, the AI can't build their way to victory if they have been wiped from the map.
