Does anyone think this is a good implementation of the notification system?

I mean, I might be interested in what is going on behind those notifications and while not seen in the screenshot, the notifications often tell you something like "your lady-in-waiting found out that you are trading with x". Is this really necessary? How about having those huge blocks of text removed and give the player the ability to check those from a log or something.

There are moments when being able to see inter-turn events can be crucial, like when checking whether that settler that the AI happened to lose to barbs is going northeast or northwest. It would be nice to have this functionality in both single and multiplayer. Currently this is really broken when playing hotseat - only the first player gets any kind of notifications and those are from the last player. Maybe an option to review what happened last turn (i.e. during the AI's turn), available to all players?
