Not just yet, Hygro. I want to wait 5-10 more turns, to ensure they don't have a care up their sleeve. Their military power, according to the game's mil advisor, has gone up recently. We're now equal in power, though at one time a few turns ago we were stronger.
Well, they are probally still weaker. We may have been just been able to reach a point of being 'stronger,' unitl very recently. This means the margin is smaller, but we should still be slightly more powerful. Also, GCA has alot of units in the east fighting Apolyton, still.
I must admit that as I begin to learn more and more about our nation, I was dismayed to find out that we are still despots! This means that with each passing turn, we are just falling further and further behind the three teams that will remain. I was also saddened to see that Monarchy is not an option for us.
My question is: will we be able to thrive under a Republic at this time? It looks like right now our increased income would be offset by our paying for troop support.
Whatever road we take, we should be very cautious. I believe we should wait a bit longer and build some workers(we only have two? ). One of our traits is Industrious and it allows quicker worker actions, something we unfortunately haven't been using to our full advantage.
So many options, and we could benefit from every one. What do we do first? Build workers to ready our land for the Republic? Build Settlers to grow into the land that is waiting for us? Build Horsemen so that we may one day feel secure in the defense of our nation by Riders? Build much-needed improvements?
The answer to all of these questions is a resounding YES, but we only have 8 cities to do this with. What should come first?
Actually, Zarn, we should wait to mine the hills until we descend into anarchy. We won't get the full benefit of the mines until we change governments.
I propose that workers be used to build roads only at first, so that we can gain the extra commerce. But first, I think we should build some Settlers to give us more cities to build more of what we need(which is everything).
I understand what you are saying Octavian. But every turn wasted is significant.
CivGeneral, why is that? if we have enough units to take what is ours, why is it such a bad thing? I really don't think that GCA can pull any surprising tricks.

True, but the problematic corruption from Anarchy could slow us down production wise. That could also slow down the war production that we need to use for replacing fallen units.

Ah. More workers Our problem has been lack of workers, for ages... We're industrious and only 2 workers? Are we building only military? We neeed settlers and then workers, actually, we needed them yesterday...
It seems like everyone is eager to rush headlong into Republic when we are nowhere near ready.
If we do this, the new government won't make a bit of difference in the early stages. In fact, it may even initially hurt us. However, if I can't persuade everyone to wait a bit longer, then we need to start building workers this instant.
These workers should build a road in any worked tile that doesn't have one. And they should also head to the city with the Flood Plains(Yun Quiling, I think?? I can't keep these city names straight...) and irrigate those three tiles. This will give us our main Settler/ Worker producer, as those 3 tiles should yield 5 food apiece(3 in Despotism)
So, let's get started, beginning with a Settler in Shen Ling, followed by a Worker. We need to start making our move now, as I am not convinced we are out of this yet.
Yes, but did you read the rest of that post, Hygro?
In it I stated that I am saddened that we don't have Monarchy as an option, because that is the only government that would immediately benefit us if we switched to it.
We have 32 troops right now. Under Republic, that costs 32 gold per turn! We are currently making 24gpt and I don't think we have enough roads to increase that number considerably, or at least enough to get us back to 24gpt.
It is a close enough call that I am almost willing to risk making the switch, but we had better have a solid back up plan in the case that the numbers don't quite live up to what we are expecting.
BTW, I too am concerned that no one seems interest in debating this key moment in our history.
I did read the rest of your post and you weren't gung ho about switching but your later post seemed like you completely changed your mind and didnt admit it.
I don't think monarchy is a good idea simply because in my years of playing, the only time I really found it better was beta testing the weakened republic in c3c and even then I was off to fuedalism in a few more turns. The unit support is worse in monarchy, the economy wont be much better. Corruption will improve, but not enough to make up for lost time in anarchy.
I say republic is the way to go.
Some screenshots showing all our cities would be really nice as we could add up the commerce difference.
