Let's Play: Deity BC Space: Strategies from a 10 year veteran

Thats an interesting question. I suppose the lower the better because of cheaper research. But low level AI won't build many cities and workers for you, and early worker steals and captured cities are a huge boost, particularly for Inca with their overpowered UU. Seems to be a tough tradeoff for me, but I don't even play marathon, let alone making a BC launch.

I suppose the lower the better because of cheaper research.
Yea, it just get easier, and like Snowbird said, free settlers and worker at the really low levels. I'm sure can incorporate a lot of the strategy here on any level or any game speed--to some degree.

I just realized that Ecology has two paths: Fission or Plastics and I'll have both.
That means 40% research boost instead of 20. What does that mean for me?

I can drop 30,000 into Ecology easily in 1 turn.

I guess that means that doing Ecology last is not smart because unless you happened to hit Genetics on the nose, you over-research Ecology a lot.
I used to do Ecology last, but this game I thought about it and decided Genetics last is best. So it's just reinforcing that I'm doing the more optimal path.

fyi, Cuzco is only size 17 and has -8:food: for unhealthy. That's a lot. I wonder if I should have done something about it? Seems too late now.
Hasn't been a problem until factory/coal plants.

Environmentalism almost works. I could care less about the extra +25% corp costs, and I'd get +6 food in all cities that are unhealthy.
Problem is: losing Merc. That's 150+ specialists = time 6 is at least 900 bpt

A couple hospitals are being used, but won't resolve until very late.

Genetics is +3, but that's the last tech. I can't imagine shuffling tech order to get that earlier.
Something to consider in a future game. I think I'd need at least one more super-forested city.

Setller level with huts with handpicked AI with no hunting.
At settler huts pop workers-settlers-further scouting units. I believe it has been done.
(p.s. http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/game_info.php?entryID=25154)

Yeah I guess I didn't really consider the ones below noble to be "real" difficulty levels  I guess it would be fun to try how badly you can break the game with like 18 civs in a duel sized map with settler difficulty etc.

Finally rolled the turn

Industrialism

I have 5 aluminum already connected. No reason to connect any more, just need 1.
Lisbon gets one in a mine. LifeSupport city is on top of one. Those are the only space parts cities that benefited.

-29,999 gpt
19,300 bpt (down because I'm prepping for space parts) Golden Age ends next turn!

A few workboats makes
Sushi 38

No corp spread :(
Now I can only spread if the exec can get to the new city on the turn its born.

Rocketry

With the GAge end, I lose 1:hammers: per tile. You'd think research would drop significantly, but it's offset by sushi growth. I still need to MM all the cities now that hammer tiles are that much worse...and spread mining more. So bpt will go up before the end of turn. long story short, it went from 19,300 down? to
19,400. Wow. See how useless a GAge is to me at this point in the game?

Last? workboats make :
Sushi +39:food:
I gave one wb to Mongolia and he explored with it
I gave them a 2nd one. Waiting to see what happens. I'm not sure this one extra resource will give me +40 food or not.
Note to self: net the seafood before you gift cities and make them your permanent vassal.

2 mining spread :) I'm not done yet.

After MM, my bpt is:
 20,000 bpt.
I'm actually there now. Last time I hit 20k, by the end of the turn's micro management, it was down to 19k.
And I'm not in a golden age!

Yeah I found that as well - for some reason even if you give them a workboat on top of a resource they will explore, what about gifting them your world map first, wonder if that would work??

That's smart. It might work. One AI did net the fish on the first try. Maybe this was the difference. I sold my map for 10-20 to several AI, but I don't recall which.
I'll do that immediately for Mongolia! You may have just provided me +100:food: per turn.
update: nope, didn't seem to work.

One of my thrusters was going to be in Timbuktu since it already has an observatory, but it also has an adademy. So I'll leave it doing scientists.
Boston (105h) can do a thruster without an observatory or lab.
Fun fact: this is the city that I whipped down to size 1 to get Kremlin not long ago, and chopped it for Taj. It will be size 12 for space parts.

Last? workboats make :
Sushi +39:food:

I was planning to use workboats in neutral water to save my workers if needed, but I decided a while back to let the workers die.
Now I realize that workboats in my culture are protected from death by the 80 workers.
So I can net a few more seafood

 I've been saving some of my transports from the strike monster without loading them with settlers!
Spoiler :
Load a military unit and end the turn in a city where the unit on the transport acts as MP.

what about gifting them your world map first, wonder if that would work??
Mongolia appears to have disbanded my workboat gift. Last turn, they moved it from where I gifted into their capital (towards the crab).
I couldn't gift it ON the crab cus it would have been eaten by the strike monster if I tried to sail over there.

Combustion

Give away oil! It's just causing unhealthy now that I have Comubstion

I add one final coal for +56 mining. I've also just finished searching the south and north poles. There are no more land tiles, so 56 is the max.
20,800 bpt

Since Plastics is 2t, I will be bulbing Computers...twice. So I pay attention to my cities' growth to try and get as many as possible to grow in 2t (increases bulbs).
Yes, I'm detail oriented. :borg:

Plastics

With the loss of Ivory and now Fur, a couple angry citizens have shown up. Not to mention -4 Fear for our Safety at size 12 since I have no MP anywhere. Well, one MP in one city.
I settle 2 new ice cities and free the colony. +1 happy and Dom limit is now 74%.
I was 72.01/72 after I settled those 2 cities, so domination victory was close.
Now I'm 71.8/74 %. I think a 2% buffer will last, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Double bulb Computers for 14,634 each. 29,268

Don't lose momentum due to lack of posts.... It's not that there is not interest, but it's because we are awestruck and speechless.
Such numbers!! Please keep it running, I'm still checking this thread several times a day.

Thx for the encouragement. I should have notified this thread: It's my turn to play the SGotM, and it's a very complex turnset. So I've been on that all week and next week. Also, remodeling my kitchen next week. It's getting pretty easy to play these turns, but I want to triple check my space parts before moving on. After the next turn or two, it's too late to make adjustments. Once I'm comfortable with the space parts, I should be able to play this whole thing out in 1 week. Still aiming for end of the month.
