Because quite frankly I'm getting sick of Civ3 the way it is now with 1.17f.

I just started to get the hang of this version of Civ3 thanks to the many posters who helped me in my last thread asking for help. Well that all went to hell last night.

I might be overreacting to my minor setback last night. However consider this.........While I don't profess to be a computer gaming expert I don't do too badly at TBS games. However Civ3 with all it's heinously screwed up flaws has frustrated me to the point where I never will buy another firaxis game again.

Let's just see if this new patch does anything good for this game. I keep reading about how everyone is having a fun time winning at deity and discussing meta-game issues and I want to win to $%#@ it! I want to enjoy playing Civ3 as much as I enjoy playing games such as The Operational Art of War by Talonsoft, MOOII, Space Empires 3 etc. etc...

Go ahead and make fun of me I don't care because I'm fed up!

I wish I could get my money back because computer games are supposed to be fun.

New Patch?

probably friday

as for your sig: I hadboth, and yesterday i kicked ICQ out because it still wanted data from the net after I closed it down (wasn`t in the "programs running" window of WinXP anymore)!

In view of the "wrong patch" fiasco with 1.16 and the "wrong editor" debacle with 1.17, I'm not going to be even downloading patch 1.21 until it's clear there have been no such quality control accidents and all you willing guinea pigs out there have enough time to play a few games and discover the next lot of bugs and bad gameplay decisions. Only then will I decide whether to try it or not.

@ Killer

Notice my new description; "game swill"? heh heh.

..and on the topic of patch 1.21, I'm gonna wait until Zouave gives it the thumbs up before I accept it for download. No, seriously.

Judging from what the readme about the new patch says it seems like most of the changes have been made to the editor. Now you can craft the game to your liking. Some minor bug fixes.

I just hope that the AI is a little more kinder. Otherwise, poo poo to 1.21f :vomit:

Yeah I did yesterday, wondering if that had some other hidden meaning besides "ours"

I`ll try 1.21f early next week, but before I`ll do my old old trick of duplicating my civIII folder..... Saves me all the reinstalling of graph mods :D

Also, I`m quite pissed that the multi-cheat is gone. I guess they don`t want us to be able to monitor game mechanics like we used to.....

to the orginal post. not everybody is playing at the highest level, me for one. i'm working my way up the latter. i enjoy the game. sometimes i loose big time and other times i win big time. a lot has to do with starting location and map. i like to play all random except the civ i play. overall i enjoy the game. remember it is just a game after all.

my two cents.

I waited for Civ3 for years, and when it came out I bought it right away. I played it for a month or so... and was disappointed and frustrated. I loved Civ2... I've probably spend more hours playing Civ2 than any other game in my life. Civ3 was improved in many ways, but it just wasn't as much fun to play.

So I found this forum and participated for a while, to learn new strategies but also to vent my frustrations. Although I didn't want to think I wasted $40, I finally took the suggestions of some members here - "If you don't like Civ3, don't play it!" So I stopped playing. This is my first trip back to this forum in months.

I'll download the latest patch and give it one more shot. I hope the gameplay issues are finally resolved. With all the vast improvements in Civ3, the game still needs to be fun to play.
