Long time lurker here and I gotta say I love VP and all its aspects, and I am really looking forward to Gold. However, I cant help but bring up one of the aspects of the game I feel has lacked a lot of love, Corporations. They feel a bit like something that is tacked on at the end more out of obligation than anything else, and while I do see their strengths, it feels a bit like a wonder you grab if you feel like it, buildings you build if you want to, and franchises that kinda just happen. Honestly the monopolies are stronger than the corporations for the most part it feels like.
Now before we start I want to stress that this is a just a conversation because I felt that this part of the game isnt talked about enough. If we decide corporations are fine, then we let the thread die. But if you kinda agree with me and feel like there should be a bit more to this mechanic, this is the place to say so.
What do you guys think about corporations, should they be buffed, nerfed, have more features, overhauled, or even removed? Discuss. (Also this is my first post so I hope this turns out ok :))

They could probably use a general tweaking / balancing pass but overall I'm content with them. I also don't feel like they're generally weaker than Monopolies and some of the buildings are quite strong, actually; I mean, in my last game I picked Firaxite and with 9 Franchises it gave me +18 science and +20% building construction rate in every city; that's about as much science as I got from my Public School buildings (and that only if the PS specialist was worked, as well) in a decent sized city plus the building construction rate increase and the extra science from TRs and the extra science from certain resources and the extra TR and unpillagable TRs (from barbies, at least)...that's quite a lot of nice stuff; certainly more than your average Monopoly provides.

I never honestly liked how franchises basically benefit the Corporation Owner and not the city you're trading with. It's basically -1 GPT for the franchise owner. Franchises should at least give some benefits to the cities so you're wary of who you're providing a franchise to.

Would make the Order tenet (Nationalism I think) that lets you spread franchises to your own cities very powerful

misconception, Corporation Offices function as Franchises don't mean franchises are built inside the cities. It means Corporate Offices count toward the Corporation HQ Bonus like a franchise.

The only thing I could think to suggest about corporations would be to give Franchise buildings a fraction of the benefits of corporate offices. Having a local franchise of a global corporation in your city should provide some benefit, and like Enginseer said, it makes you think more about the pros and cons of International trade. If franchises worked just like corporate offices but gave, say, 50% of the yields and other benefits they would grow stronger as the whole corporation grows stronger. And it goes both ways with AI setting up franchises in player cities.

Iam pretty fine as it is, but if it will be changed, would give the franchise the advantage of an office with one franchise. This would be fairly enough, growing would be too much.

I think Corporations are fine, too. Each has its own characteristic and interesting, we should not touch this.

Do you think they are unbalanced? Any concrete concerns?
Nope. It doesn't mean they are balanced, though, especially when they come late and there weren't many discussions here about them. I mean they should be tweaked if anyone find imbalance and prove it.

I find it very hard to discuss the balance of corporations because all the information for what each corporation does isn’t readily available.

Is the wiki up to date re corporations? Is there a going for gold thread that we could move this discussion to?

No discussion about corporations in the general balance forum. Only mentioned sometimes in the luxury monopoly thread.

But the civilopedia is up to date. All Infos are there.

Maybe I'll start one then. The general balance subforum is a better place for this discussion. I'll post a link on this comment when I have it up

Edit: New Thread is up
