I have a problem with dependencies on the Canton Pirate mod mod. Is there something that needs to be deleted to fix the problem?

Ah, fair enough. Only reason I even asked is because I (and a couple others) have tried poking him about it before and it never got a response, so I sorta figured he wasn't doing much.

@Enginseer Do you have any rough idea as what was going on with that crash? I know next to nothing, but I was going to poke around anyway and see if it ended up being a simple typo or something I might be able to fix. I've succeeded with bigger longshots.

Just went through that myself. The author of the original Canton Pirates updated their mod, and that changed the modID and name of the mod, so the CBO compat mod can't see it. You can go into the .modinfo file for the compat mod, go down to the Dependencies section and replace the entire line containing 'Canton Pirates- Ching Shih' with this:

    Code:
    <Mod id="50b0b22e-7600-4a84-8822-6a180a11d6d4" minversion="0" maxversion="999" title="The Canton Pirates - Ching Shih" />
And that'll solve the dependency and let you load the mod. Can't verify if it works 100% or not; haven't started the game yet.

    Update. second pass on Israel.

Made changes to UA, UB, and completely redid a lot of the text (mostly shortening).

fixed a UI bug caused by a city interface lua from the base mod.

Lua hooks still not activating, not sure why. Any help on diagnosing the problem would be really appreciated. the EUI for VP is throwing up all sorts of bugs in the logs (which have nothing to do with this mod), and I'm not that good at interpretting logs anyways.

update. still can't get lua working. None of the events are being activated, even basic ones, so there's an issue with how the lua is loading.

I've tried adding/subtracting various dependencies and references into the .modinfo file, not sure what else I could try

@pineappledan Did you care for Israel City-State (Jerusalem)? Also people using City-State Evolved mod (me f.e.) will have problem because there are Nation States and Jerusalem is substituted by Israel Nation State. Not to mention City State Leaders mod. Any Compatibility update planned for that?

I've never played with that mod, I'm not sure where to start to make it compatible. I doubt there would be much issue, however.

The mod changes the TSL, name and description for Jerusalem (the CS) to 'Balkh'. It does not change any other aspects of the City-State beyond re-labelling it. Because the changes to the CS are almost purely aesthetic, I doubt they would have any in-game impact if using CS-Evolved

Ok. The only problem will be that if player found city Jerusalem then CS will not do that. There cannot be two the same names on the map. And two Israel Nations will be odd. :p

It says in the mod description on the workshop that the mod already has this potential modding conflict resolved, in that it will pick random names if the ones already used are filled, in the event of a custom civ. Still though, With Balk already set as the name of the first city, however, I doubt this will break immersion much

    Update incoming:

    cleared all database errors

Added Faith Purchase cooldown for Shophet

    Solomon's Temple Changes:
    reduced conversion resistance to 20%
    reduced pressure to 75%
    fixed Solomon's Temple Text

I'm very much interested how people feel about the balance. I'm thinking of removing the 36:c5culture:/:c5gold: on GP expending from the Temple
Also I'm worried that guerilla fighter is a very strong promotion.

Update after 2 games into medieval:

At least on lower difficulties (Prince), I am finding that the way Israel can bypass most of the top of the tree and still secure religion is very satisfying. This makes Israel one of the WORST civs for science though, since all the related techs are heavily de-emphasized in favor of the lower branches. This inadvertently adds some nice flavor to the civ, since much of the top of the classical tree is very Hellenic.

The religion bonuses need to be tweaked, however. The faith from pop comes way too early to be as strong as it is. spreading unopposed across the continent is too easy right now because missionaries come every 4 turns if you managed to found at least 5 cities.

I'm going to lower :c5faith: per :c5citizen: either to 1 for every 3 or 1 for every 4. That should help a bit, and hopefully put more emphasis on Great works and GP tiles for Faith Generation.
I'm still a little leery about the 36 :c5culture:/:c5gold: on GP expend. I am keeping it in for now though, because the main culprit was the runaway faith. I am combining it with Ceremonial Burial/Mastery/Sainthood/To the Glory of God and turning GP births into a yields bonanza.
I am also no longer too worried about the Maccabee. It's very strong, yes, but Israel has nothing in its kit to help with an offensive war, other than the Shofet's abilities making sieges a bit faster. I think it can stay as is.

    STRATEGY
Israel has 2 possible strategies: Hard GP generation focus and early warmonger.

Research archery and pottery as fast as possible. At least 2 archers are key to getting fast and reliable barb camps for early pantheon, and set you ahead of the religion race. Once you have the necessary techs to exploit the resources in your surroundings, beeline to masonry and get Solomon's Temple up
Start pumping out settlers early, since your unique wonder's power scales with many cities and good population growth. Ignoring the early wonder race is probably best, though you might be able to get 1. Temple of Artemis will help augment your growth focus, but Temple of Zeus is another strong pick if you are going for a militaristic playstyle.

You should be able to found religion early. Strong choices are:
    Founder
    • Ceremonial Burial (GAPs from GP birth compliments your build)
    • Way of Transcendence (massive. flat. yields. You can snap up wonders with this belief, making it worthwhile for most tall strats, and the Food on Holy Sites compliments your secondary food focus)
    Follower
    • Mandirs (help compensate for the lack of religious pressure with no temples, more food)
    • Mastery (benefit more from specialists with your GP focus)
    • Asceticism (Food food food.)
    Enhancer
    • Sainthood (Early religion means you likely were able to spread pretty far without resistance. Reap the benefits with :c5science:/:c5culture: in capital, and :c5faith: Faith on all GP births stacks well with a GP focus)
    • If you have a militaristic streak, Zealotry could be another strong choice
    • Resilience (double down on the conversion resistance inherent to this civ. If you got Mandirs in all cities, that's +55% resistance on empire. Holy Sites will also become massive with this belief.

    Reformation
    • Knowledge through Devotion (+4:c5science:/:c5faith: on all GP tiles stacks well with your UA, though you don't get any extra bonuses to Landmarks/Artifacts). This could be worth it if you're focused on a CV victory with a Archeologist rush.
    • To the Glory of God - The most obvious. Lots of Faith on empire = lots of GP purchases. More yields from GP purchase, thanks to the early spread on religion.

    GP- Strategy: Tradition -> Artistry -> Rationalism->Freedom

No surprises here. Focus the tradition tree to help secure faster growth in all your cities, which will help you maintain your faith output lead once the other civs get temples. More :c5food: = More :c5faith: = more spread/earlier reformation. The +1:c5food: food on GP tiles and +25%:c5greatperson: GPP growth in capital will also be a huge asset.

The Defense is strong with this one. Macabbees heal quickly in friendly land, and your UA boosts citadels, so burn your GGs early and often, making your frontiers impenetrable.

Rationalism is another flat boost to your GP production, but the +yields on great works, boosts to golden ages, and historical events boosts will help you transition into a strong position for CV.

Rationalism is more growth. By now you are likely setting up for kibbutzim, if playing with 4UC, so make sure you have farms in all the right places. Observatories means more specialists, and more GScientists.

Warmonger Strategy: Authority -> Artistry -> Imperialism or Rationalism -> Freedom.
This one is less obvious, but the UA doesn't state that the Great works and tiles need to be ones you built. Especially with the Shofet from 4UC, a warmonger strategy is quite viable with Israel.

Even with a warmonger Strategy, picking tradition is a strong choice, but Authority offers some nice compliments to your kit as well. The additional :c5culture: from barb kills and camps makes you a barb-hunting machine early on (+50% vs barbs), which can be further combined with the :c5science: on kills. Your focus should remain on early settling, which is made easier and more rewarding with the Imperium policy. This can be further augmented by an early war to get your first Shophet out. Continue to subdue barbs and stragglers which wander to close to your borders for :c5culture:,:c5science:, and now :c5greatperson: randomly selected GPPs on every kill. Solomon's temple already has you prioritizing the bottom of the tree, so Maccabees will likely be out while all the other civs are focusing on getting libraries. Try to capitalize on a swordsman rush with your highly mobile swordsmen. Shofets can effectively halt a city's healing with their Shofar ability, making sieges quicker if you can get them close.

Farming :c5greatperson:GPPs with Shofets is disabled in friendly territory, which means that your wars have to be offensive if you want to use Shoftim as a reliable source of GPs. Keep on the offensive. Imperialism can make it so all your shoftim boost by 35% if in friendly territory (Milhemet Mitzvah). The Imperialism tree's benefits require that you have already made strong gains in the early game so you can capitalize on bonuses to monopolies, courthouses and puppets. If you have been successful in early wars, and have kept up in science, you may find Imperialism's gains outweigh the more reliable benefits from Rationalism.

Autocracy is not likely to dislodge Freedom, even with a hard warmonger focus with Israel. New deal, Civil Society and Avant-Garde are just too valuable to pass up

I have tried this mod in both versions (4UC and not), but it messes up UI. Buldings have empty descriptions when hovering mouse on available building list and leader screens are empty. I have tried both mods with 4UC mod enabled and not enabled and every time I have this problem.

Can you please confirm that the errors only started to occur with the newest version of VP? If so, this may be something I need to take up with @ilteroi to figure out what it is, exactly, that was changed.

I get the error on the newest version; I haven't tried on earlier versions.
