Poll here!

So with the media in apparent love with Barack Obama, I'm curious to why people like him. Do you have a valid reason, other than all of your other college friends love him?

What is this, "Look at me, I can make polls!" night?

How about other: because I like his policies?

I do not love obama in any way, that's gay.

He is a newbie gaffe machine and as you can see I'm very liberal. Maybe Dennis kucinich.

And this is no way to hate on gogf. I like gogf but not in a gay way like you obama lovers.

You kids are spoiled. Choose, but choose wisely. ;)

Because he is a Democrat and I generally agree with their political goals. I like him over Hillary because I think he is more likely to be successful than she in achieving these goals.

Aren't you aware that Obama and McCain are essentially remarkably similar except in a few key areas?

I don't "love" him. I plan to vote for him because he is better than the alternative.

That is the most laughable statement I have ever heard. Name any major topic on which they adopt the same positions.

Being republican.

Topic: Trade and Economics

Obama said:
But this raises a larger point, which is: globalization is here. And we should be trading around the world. We don't want to just be standing still while the rest of the world is out there taking the steps that it needs to in order to expand trade.

2007 AFL-CIO Democratic primary forum Aug 8, 2007

McCain said:
"I don't believe in walls. I believe in freedom. If I were President, I would negotiate a free trade agreement with almost any country willing to negotiate fairly with us. Only risks to the security of our vital interests or egregious offenses to our most cherished political values should disqualify a nation from entering into a free trade agreement with us."

Speech to National Press Club, 5/20/99 May 20, 1999

Topic: Torture

McCain said:
"any information that we may gain through the use of torture can never, ever be counterbalanced by the damage it does to America's reputation and the risk -- (cheers, applause) -- and the risk that when an American is in the hands of an enemy, that they will use the fact that we tortured people as an excuse to torture our brave men and women in the military."

Obama said:
"We must send a message to the world that America is a nation of laws, and a nation that stands against torture. As President I will abide by statutory prohibitions, and have the Army Field Manual govern interrogation techniques for all United States Government personnel and contractors."

On trade. McCain free trade/Obama fair trade. Basically a difference in the level enthusiasm for new trade agreements and the negotiating stance but pretty close.

McCain talks a good game but voted against restricting the CIA from torturing. Also not a major issue.

The main issue they are the same on is probably global warming.

Major issues in US politics are:

War
Taxes
Gays,guns, and embryos

Where they are quite different.

Because he is a Democrat and I generally agree with their political goals.
People "generally agreed" with socialism in mid 20th century China, and we got Mao.
I like him over Hillary because I think he is more likely to be successful than she in achieving these goals.
Why? Because he has more experience, cunning/guile, or political connections?
