I have a decent computer upstairs that I can do whatever I want to. However, it will never be connected to the internet. Is it worth setting up a dual boot linux + Xp?

Computers without internet aren't really worth using.

I used my Aptiva IBM without internet for about a year. That wasn't too long ago, either. I think 2005 or so.

If you just want to play around and learn Linux, go ahead and install from CD/DVD. Obviously, you won't be able to do automatic/online updates, but you can learn how things work, and try out the programs that come with your distro by default.

I went ahead and did that. Now I'm going to do all my homework in linux. It's faster since my XP has a virus.

Also, it was ubuntu, because I'm lazy and we already had an ubunu live CD.
