Hello guys, I just got my computer for my friends to use at my house(ya know multi player)

Anyway So I have the motherboard pluged in the right way(I learned that the hard way a month ago hehehe)
put the cpu and fan in
plug in the ram
plug in power switch
plug in HD and CD
plug in geforce 2
plug it in

Now two things
1 when I plug it in it auto starts up, prob not bad but read 2

2 NOTHING HAPENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just hear a nifty fan turn on then nothing. help:confused: pelase?

I have a Athalon XP 2800+

and im not cpu iliterate

Do you see anything on the screen? Do you have a Boot Disk? An Operating system? This would help ;)
If you don't really know what you're doing, it'd probably be better to ask someone else to do it. Saves you the bother :)

Edit: Oh well. Are you sure you've wired the pwoer supply up to the motherboard correctly then? It can be quite confusing with all the wires... (even though they're labled)

Sometimes the fan starts and dies only from being plugged in IIRC, but is it possible to turn off the computer or turn it on on the power button?

yes I can turn it off, and gainy I mean nothing happens no boot at all. just the fan starts up. No screen no boot no hd

Hmmm... unplug the HD, CD, video card, and RAM and see if it helps/hurts. Likely either something isn't plugged in right, or you've got a component failure. Did you take care to ground yourself while you were putting everything together?

on the grounding yes, that was the leson I learned if ya look at me post(dif mboard

So, no error beeps? Does the monitor wake up? Does the HDD run? Does the floppy search for a disk?

It sounds like it may be a power suply option. Not to sound stupid, but you are doubly sure EVERYTHING is plugged in right? Maybe have someone check it. Now, i know squat about the innards of computer, but from what i do know, it sounds like 1) things ain't plugged in right, 2) something is wrong with your power supply, 3) wires died. Consider replacing them, AFTER you have made sure EVERYTHING is plugged in right.

And wow, you bought a computer for your friends to play MP Games? Must be quite the lucky friends . . .

goob its all in, and ive tried other power supplies

i remember having something like this but can't remember why...

firstly, try taking out the ram and then turn it on, to see if it starts beeping at you. if it doesn't, it's probably power-motherboard stuff.

Hmmm . . . have you tried changing and/or testing the wires to see if they work? One of them might be dead. You might just have a bad connection somewhere. Also, get someone else to look at it, a second opinion usually helps a lot.

Is this the first time you've had this processor/mobo combination. If so make sure they are compatible. Memory too. Take everything off but the most necessary parts and try to boot it up. I assume you have another computer so try this GF2 on it too and see if it works. do same to the other components(if compatible) to determine if they are faulty. I don't know what mobo you have, but if there is any possibility it has jumpers for processor speed set higher than the current processor plugged in might also be cause to this. And still make sure you have everything plugged in ok.

And then if/when you eventually solve it, let us know what the solution was, please!!
