Little Mosque on the Prairie

It's available on satellite.

That said, I'll watch it, but from the ads I've seen it looks pretty lame and predictable (so it'll fit in with the rest of Canadian television).

Why is it that the defining characteristic of our humour is its cutesy provincialism? (I'm not saying this program will necessarily be like that, though that is my suspicion, but I'm referring to what sysyphus is talking about.)

It seems to me that Newfoundlanders are just about the only Canadian comics who are actually funny.

Only people who are good at sending themselves up will get this. Otherwise it's wasted. Irony is a great medium to explore what it is to be human or relgion in general. I'm afraid though some people just don't get taking the piss. For them it's a mystery, why should I take the piss out of my beliefs and my countries greatness, because you have no humility perhaps?

Humanity will only find peace when patriotism is beaten out of it.

George Bernard Shaw.

Knowing the CBC, it won't be canceled until it becomes popular. We'll probably see it on Showcase after Trailer Park Boys. For some reason, that makes me chuckle.

Nova Scotians are funny too.

And not all of our comedians are from the east. But many of our best are.

John Morgan lived in Toronto. Gavin Crawford's from Lethbridge.

OT: I have this creepy feeling that some people will be offended. And the only CBC I consistently watch is Comedy Friday and HNIC.

wow. its on CNN right now as i was scrolling the page. haha.

anyways. i want to see it sometime.

I saw a little bit of it on CNN. The non-Muslims are all idiots, especially the police, and the Muslims are perfect. How funny.

I know, they really should have shown the muslims to be the blood thirsty raging killers that they all are.

Wow! a CBC show that's been noticed by the mainstream U.S. Media.

It's only the premise that got it attention, nothing about the quality of the programme itself.

In fact, I'm sure that's why the CBC went for this idea, to gain the international exposure that this will obviously bring.

Actually, they could have made everyone normal, and not parodied or stereotyped anyone. Instead, all the whites are bad and all the Asian are good. Sounds racist to me.

I've seen some cuts that take a mick out of some of the muslims at well. Why not wait until you've seen a full episode until you pass judgement, or does your dedication to malign muslims at any opportunity you get prevent you from doing so?

Why not wait until you have seen a whole episode before you judge?

EDIT: Whoops, just read sys' post.

I'm pretty sure that the CBC hopes it'll create enough of a stir to go international.

Yay, another Katheryn doesn't like Muslims threadjack.

I just read the info on your link Goonie, and now I am totally psyched. I am definitely going to give the show a chance. :goodjob:

Did not get the chance to watch it.

Anybody have thoughts or opinions/know if they are airing the premiere again?

It has potential. There are a few characters that seem like they could be really good.

But, like with most pilots, it just tried too hard. It tried to get every single cliched joke possible in within half an hour, and it just seemed forced. That and the characters were a bit too whiny and were all kind of *b-words*.

It suffered from Star Trek DS9 syndrome, where every character was constantly upset and complaining, no matter how good the situation was. Imagine a whole group of Major Kiras.

Anyway, I do so a lot of potential. Hopefully in future episodes, it will be a bit more relaxed and not try to do too much.
