Little questions & answers thread

ask a question, hopefully someone has an answer...

personally, my first battle with the UI is fresh water bonus. what difference does it make? seems to be something to do with happiness but so far I have been unable to pin down what exactly
I believe Boes said it was 5 happiness?

I've packed 1 warrior and 3 Chu-Ko-Nu (archers) into one Army Commander, and was able to attack an independent settlement (barbs) earlier, but now that Confucius has declared war on me (brand new sentence?) and his Army Commander is butted up against mine, all my attack options on the bottom row are greyed out. Any ideas why? Is it because I have a mix of units assigned to this AC?

Your units are INSIDE the commander, the tiles on the bottom require adjacent units.

Can someone test this?

Ahhh, well at least I didn't commit to marathon for my first game
Speaking on being glad on not committing to marathon, I started my first game on marathon with long ages, but by turn 150 I had started the crisis and was more than 70% through the age.

But heres the thing, I was playing on Viceroy and no one had completed even a single milestone on any of the legacy paths. I was hardly to the halfway point of either the civic or tech tree, anf judging from the other civs' output, they couldn't have been much further.

All in all, be careful if looking to start a marathon game with long ages. One of those settings isn't working as intended and it could very well ruin your game.

They must not have adjusted the time for game speed.
Turn 150 would be 75% of the age through a standard speed (200 turns with no Legacy bonuses)

Yeah this threw me too, I'm guessing it's locked behind finishing an Age? After I played some turns Advanced Start became available.

No, it’s just a first time thing. The first game you set up gives you limited game customisation options. If you exit to main menu and start a new game, you get all the options, including Age length, advance start and opponent selection.

It’s an irritating design choice, but there’s no gameplay requirement to unlock these advanced setup options.

When settling on a navigable river, it seems you can only place urban tiles on the same side of the river as the city center because all urban tiles must be adjacent to one another and the river is a hard border.

Does anyone know when it (hopefully) unlocks so I can develop the other side of the river?

I think a bridge or fishing quay or similar should let you cross the river with urban districts (but I haven’t tested this)
