The Last Train To Chihuahua
Chiuahua, The Grand Empire of Mexico
A giant effort has been undertaken by the Grand Empire of Mexico, to build a mono-rail system throughout the nation. Since the collapse, the nations internal transit systems have been largely lacking, and this is a step in the 'right' direction. This system has largely allowed for Mexico City to greatly extend its reach into it's 'wild' northern territories.

An Interstate Love Song
Philadelphia, The Atlantic States of America
Giant repairs and additions have began across the Atlantic States and Cascadia this year, to the old United State's interstate highway system. From Philadelphia, reach out to almost Seattle and Olympia, a new highway system has allowed travel between the two nations to simplify by leaps and bounds, bringing trade and industrial growth to both nations by extension. New England's refusal to allow such a project in their land was respected, though the Atlantic States made it a point to build the interstate up until only a few feet to the border.

The First Californian Revolutionary Congress
Los Angeles, California
A meeting took place this year in Los Angeles, to hammer out some ways to create a more perfect, Communist government, in comparison to the borderline system the Californians have been managing the past several decades. In attendence were many members of the Californian Industrialist Party, the current party in power, along with First Citizen Hudson, and several other higher ups in the government. The Industrialist Party, winning every election, since 2150 has had a largely Communist ideology since its founding, and finally, after solidifying its power over time, feels comfortable enough to push the nation towards 'Complete Revolution'.
A large portion of the Californian population is quite alright with this, as the changes wouldn't be too dramatic, in comparison to what they've been dealing with, and several major opponents of the proposals have quickly found themselves embroiled in legal troubles. Head of the opposition party, Carter Mills, has himself, been found guilty of feeding information to the Sonoran government about Californian troop positions. The proof of these claims are relatively non-existant, though with the media focus and control, a lot of Californian's aren't finding it hard to believe.

The Sonoran War
Hermosillo, California
The Sonoran military doctorship under Javier Arteche has been at constant odds with First Citizen Hudson's revolutionary nation to the north, for the past several years. Things had come to a head with the Sonoaran take over of Californian businesses in his nation, and the deportation of all Californian nationals. Californian news outlets began displaying footage of Sonoran detention camps, and the atrocities that occurred there. 'Undercover in Sonora' became a popular News Special, that even aired in various news networks throughout the world. While some of the reporting was obviously hyped, and propagandized, it was quickly becoming clear that Sonora was the modern embodiment of oppression.
As Comrade Hudson and Arteche's government began to hammer out some sort of a humanitarian peace deal, several Sonoran villages and cities began uprising. The people of Cananea quickly declared themselves to be seperate from the Arteche government, and small scale fighting between defense forces there and the Federal Sonoran army began breaking out. Hudson, took advantage of the situation to declare war on the dictatorship.
Californian soldiers began and immediate advance down the Baja Californian Peninsula, and towards Hermosillo. The Sonran defenders in Baja California managed to hold most of their ground, causing some damage to the attacking Californians. But the real Californian assault, down towards Hermosillo, was fairly successful, with the city falling to Californian arms, after some rather intense fighting. Members of the newly proclaimed 'Cananea' Republic began actively assaulting Sonoran forces in the Eastern part of the nation, as several Californian regiments made their way down to help 'liberate' the region, something the Cananeans duly informed them they already have done.
The massive Californian navy, has managed to completely blockade the Sonoran coast, with only a limited fight from the Sonoran Navy being put up.
Several significant Sonoran hold-outs have managed to retain authority in the south of the nation, and in Baja California, under the rule of Arteche, who has called the Californians 'Godless heathens' in their assault on his 'serene Republic'. Hudson hasn't issued a response yet, though the war is expected to continue, as neither side seems particularly interested in reasonable negotiations.

Miserable in Hawaii

Hawaii, hesitant to join the Industrial Democracy of California, is largely regretting their decision more so this year. The Revolutionary Congress, and Sonoran War has many Hawaiians out in the streets, protesting for self-rule, with some fringe members even arguing about joining the Pacific Commonwealth. Propaganda on behalf of the Californian government has had a largely negligible effect on the discontent population.

The Pope Visits Quebec
Quebec City, Quebec
Quebec is among the few nations that were Catholic to recognize this new Milanese Papalty as legitimate. To celebrate their faith, Pope Magistris I has managed to make a trans-atlantic voyage to the Republic, touring Quebec City, and having several closed door discussions with the Quebecois Prime Minister. From their, he journeyed to Montreal and held a mass at the Mary, Queen of the World Basilica. The Pope visited a few other towns and villages, before going back to Quebec City, to wave good-bye to the "wonderful" people of Quebec.
His visit has inspired some fierce debates in Latin America as to his legitimacy. Soon after he left, Brazil recognized his authority, while the Central American Union has completely disregarded his claims to be the true successor of the Catholic Church.

The English Crown

A growing movement for a reinstated Monarchy in England, has finally thrust itself onto the national scene in the past few years of English politics. It wasn't until this year, however, that the full announcement of a successor to the old Monarchy has finally been organized, and will be put in place next year. While the Monarchy will be Constitutional, many English citizens are happy with the current Republic. Current leaders, however, keep insisting that no major law or governmental changes will be made.

The Impressionable Lowlands

An agreement between the 4th Reich and Norse Empire has come to fruition, after several decades of cultural and economic battle in the Lowlands Union. For several decades, both nations have attempted to draw the nation into their sphere on influence, with the people of the Lowland's themselves divided on the subject. But this year, probably due to commitments to wars in both Senegambia and Russia, the Norse Imperium has decided to end its efforts to battle the Reich in the nation, so long as the Norse Church is allowed to exist peacefully in the nation. The Reich accepted, and it wasn't long until it became obvious that competition from Norse markets was one of the only things keeping a Franco-German monopoly on Lowland's trade from occurring. As the year progressed, many Lowlanders couldn't help but notice that
everything they bought has come through, or been produced in the Reich.
Meanwhile, the Pontiff of Copenhagen, and also the Norse Emperor, Henric III has appointed a Pontiff of Amsterdam, the second Pontiff, and first none-Norse Pontiff in the Church.
Norway Loves Water

Some Norweigen engineers and scientists have began to construct massive hydro-electric power plants throughout the nation, in the hopes of encouraging energy growth. It's results weren't ideal, but it did manage to create quite a bit of energy, enough at least, for a lucrative business to begin, and countless jobs to be created.

At Least the Poles Are Happy

Several highly liberal reforms have taken place across Poland, allowing trade unions in nationalized industries, it has developed small business out-reach programs, and has clearly defined several key rights it's citizenz have, and rights the government doesn't have. Without saying too much, it should be obvious that many Polish citizens are very happy with these changes. Even the transition to a more war-based industrial economy has been taken in stride by the Poles, as abundant and new jobs have allowed them to truly and fully enjoy their rights as Polish citizens.

The Hellenization of Albania

A growing amount of 'Hellenization' became prevalent in Albania of late, with a lot of Greek families moving into the nation, along with a growing number of Greek Orthodox Missionaries that began setting up Church's in the nation. Many older Albanians aren't too happy with this growing immigration group, causing some internal tensions. An odd situation has in fact developed, where some numbers of Albanians, jealous of the Greek's culture, has instead simply moved across the border into the Hellenistic Empire, and became an ever growing minority throughout the European part of the Empire.
Ireland's World-Wide Trade Hub

While the rest of Europe scurried about either fighting wars, making wars, or attempting to exert cultural domination over other nations, Ireland seemed content to just trade. And for the most part, this seems to of worked for the Emerald Republic. Trade ships from Ireland could be seen docked all over the planet, and a recent report says that Ireland is one of Europe's largest importers, and exporters. It's biggest trading partners are ranked to be Northumbria, Brittany, India and Brazil.
Proyecto Midas

A recent economic rejuvenation project has been overtaken by the Spanish government, with tax cuts being given to small and medium enterprises, and small businesses, to help encourage job growth. Not too many results have been seen yet, as the Spanish government hadn't really put too much money into the process, but it is expected to give some rather decent returns should it be expanded on.

South Italian War
Messina, Tripolitan States
After repeated demands and threats, Naples has finally attack the Tripolitan States, in the hopes of reclaiming Sardinia, South Italy and Sicily from the African nation. It was a move that garnered some support from Europe, in terms of verbal support, but nothing past that, which as a whole made the war fairly difficult to prosecute for the Neapolitans. Regardless, they began an assault on Italy's toe, facing similar numbers of Africans. It was, however the strength of the Neapolitan airforce that carried the day. After some relatively long pitched battles back and forth, the Tripolitan forces had to retreat across the Sicillian Straits into Messina, protected by its vastly superior navy.
In Sardinia, the Tripolitans did in fact outnumber Naples' Army, but once again, its superior airforce was the defining factor, and prevented a total take over of the island. The one area the Tripolitans managed to completey win superiority in was naval warfare, with a complete blockade of the Neapolitan coast being put in place almost immediately at wars start.
While neither side could really claim a true victory this year, both sides have attempted to. War fever has swept both nations, and with the loss of South Italy, but the build up of Sicily, it's becoming harder to tell who will really walk away victorious in the war.

Russo-Norse War
Vaasa, The Norse Empire
After several months of arguing, the Norse Emperor issued a declaration of war against the Russian Republic of Russia for it's unwarranted invasion of Finland, and political domination of the nation several years later. Declaring itself to be Finland's liberators, the Norse quickly attempted to rally European support for its cause, aquiring military dedication from Poland and England, along with diplomatic support from the Baltic Union, and Lithuania, both opposed to the highly aggressive Russian government.
The Russian military quickly moved into position in Finland, just in time to respond to several precision bombing attacks by the Norse airforce, striking several key Russian and Finnish military installations. The Russian air-force however, wildly outnumbered their Norse counter-parts, and quickly secured Russian air superiority over Finland, and began launching counter-raids on Norse positions. It scrambled to re-assemble itself, however, when a massive Polish invasion force appeared on it's Southern border. Despite promises from the Baltic and Lithuanian governments that no Norse forces would be allowed to march through their lands, they made no such comment about Polish soldiers, a loophole that likely saved the Imperium's Finnish territories.
As Russian forces retreated to the South to fight off a very large, and dangerous Polish attack, Norse forces moved from their coastal Finnish positions, to capture Vaasa, and pushed to the south to take over St. Petersburg. While the Norse were hammering at the Russians outside of St. Petersburg, and the Poles were fighting them on the steppes, moving ever closer to Moscow, some strange things began happening in Kirov, the seat of the Russian government. Terrorist attacks, big and small began occuring. Bombs went off in the Department of the Army, with attempted bombings also occurring in the Russian Departments of the Navy and Airforce. A small passenger plane was hi-jacked, and flown into downtown Moscow, while a series of well-placed bombings of rail-lines led to many thousands of civilians deaths, as the Russian military and police struggled to find the culprits. Several Daghestani's, and Georgians were interned, with only traces of evidence being found, that would lead the Daghestani's and Georgnians to be considered as suspects.
During an emergency session of Russia's parliament, nerve gas was somehow thrown into the air duct system, killing several prominent members of the Russian government, luckily due to the fact that the gas was believed to of gone off earlier then expected. The damage was done though. Many Russians were frightened to even leave there homes, let alone fight a war. The Russian government too, was in shambles, with accusations flying, as to who did what attack and why. A growing sentiment was in was in fact several of the Causcaus republics working together in the south, to help organize Russia's demise. Which is why it came to no surprise to some Russian generals that they were ordered to fire missile attacks on Daghestan, and Ossetia. Yet, for some inexplicable reason, missiles were also fired at Chernorussiya, hitting the town of Tarko-Sale, and killing over a hundred civilians. Chernorussiyan contingencies were immedietly enacted, with thousands of Chernorussiyan Spetsnaz soldiers were deployed from VTOL's, and quickly took over key Russian positions, as the rest of the Chernorussiyan army rolled across the border, and began taking town after town. Declarations of war from Ossetia and Daghestan came shortly thereafter, with their own forces committing itself to a 'Second Steppe War'. Kiev issued sanctions on the Russia, if that even mattered. The allied blockade of Russia was complete.
Attack on 4 sides, and completely cut off from the outside world, the Russian military slowly began attempting to throw some defenses up, to prevent the onslaught. Rebels in Finland began appearing, in the hopes that a governmental system of the old-style would be reinstated.

The Suez Treaty

After mounting tensions over the Mesopotamian seizure of the Suez Canal from Egypt during the Egyptian Civil War, talks have finally taken place in regards to the future of the Canal. Egyptian minister Abdula Hassan had for a long time hammered out an attempted deal, to give both nations the benefit of the Canal, and after some assumed persuasion, Mesopotamian forces broke down, and signed The Suez Treaty, giving both sides equal stakes in the Suez, and helped de-militarize the border between the two nations. Of course, their are a few opponents of the treaty in Mesopotamia, and a lot in Egypt, though Hassan has called them 'nothing but the cries of the greedy'.
Egypt - or the Kingdom of the Nile?

Egyptian religious leaders have began making some odd statements in regards to the religious status of the Egyptian president. The statements generally are in regards to him somehow being a Prophet, or eventually turning into one. Many people in the Socialist republic are questioning why these religious leaders are delving into such grounds, and no official response has been heard from the Egyptian president yet.
Another growing movement, or thought process in the Egypt is the fact that it is the true ruler of the Nile river, and other nations on the river, such as Eritrea, are nothing more then thieves and knaves. While this essentially nationalistic movement has gained some support, no real political gains have been made by the supporters of such and idea yet.

The War for South Africa

The English Republic has continued it's assault of South Africa with renewed vigor this year, with English armored brigades, supported by a good portion of the English infantry regiments attacking deep into the heart of South Africa. Outmanned, and out gunned, the South African military did their best to hold of the English assaults, though complete English air dominance made that very difficult.
Popular uprisings, also helped to disrupt South African military supply and transportation lines, as racial and political tensions racked the African republic internally. The English navy destroyed what remained of the South African navy, while bombers hit industrial centers heavily.

The Norse-Senegambian War

The supposedly climatic Norse-Senegambian War fizzed, instead of exploded this year, with both sides apparently pre-occupied, and worried about taking a wrong initial step. The Norse, apparently committed to fighting the Russians in Europe, decided to attempt to fight a primarily aerial war this year, something it seems Senegambian military planners attempted to do themselves. The Norse, attempted to attack Senegambia proper, hoping to strike their navy should it sortie out, and hit industrial infrastructure. As the Norse airforce was flying over the newly taken Senegambian islands in the Gulf Guinea, it quickly found itself in a battle for air superiority it had not, but should of expected. After several days of combat, and a few raids on the Norse Congo, and a few more retaliatory raids on Senegambia's Eastern territories, both sides retreated back to their previous positions, licking their wounds, while attempting to find some sort of weakness in their enemies defenses.
In the meantime, several radical groups, opposed to the Matriarchal society enforced by Senegambian government, began making plays for revolution, or in some cases independence. While the movement would have gained quite a lot of support by the downgraded men in Senegambia, the relative free hand the Senegambian army had in it's land this turn, killed a lot of the revolutionary groups before they could become anything bigger then an annoyance.

Medical Tourism, And All That

Chernorussiya has began to experience growing waves of medical tourism, as many people with cancer, diseases and other assorted ailments began making their way to the East Asian nation. The Chernorussiyan 'miracle' workers, more often then not managed to cure whatever it was that was bothering their patients with an almost machine like efficiency. A similar situation began developing in Korea, the one nation roughly on par with the Chernorussiyans, though they haven't gone to the painstakingly large lengths to glorify and publicize it.
The Awkward Situation In Taiwan

A growing number of Pan-Japanese nationalists began demanding Japanese annexation in South Taiwan. Heavily equipped, they have managed to strike at several Siamese military bases, and went so far as to sabotage a Siamese train, filled with supplies. These rebellions are relatively out of the blue, as nothing in Siamese foreign policy has actually shifted or changed, which has left Siamese administrators on the island at a loss as to why such things are happening.

Despite it's failures to really entice any large parts of the Indochinese population into wanting to culturally assimilate into the Siamese nation, the government has continued to dedicate massive amounts of money and manpower into expanding the Siamese culture. Siamese films, songs and other forms of art can be found across East Asia, with it becoming prominent in even Oceania. Of course, there comes a point when things just begin to feel forced, and similar to Indochina backlashes in Siam itself, along with several nations has led some aspects of Siamese culture to be almost taken as a joke.
Of course, it is the Siamese government that is laughing, as it intakes an ever growing amount of revenue and industry from such ventures.

South Island's Big Day

This year, Adam Key, South Island's dictator, has issued a series of proclamations, deporting all Australian nationalists in the nation, and issuing a mandatory draft of men between the ages of 18 and 22, significantly growing the size of the South Island army. Key claims the Australians were 'spies' and 'trouble makers', and instead insisted on heavier and more thorough immigration laws. Similar expulsions occurred to members of the Pacific Commonwealth, Zealand and Westralia. While the other nations weren't too opposed to the move, with only grumbles of annoyance coming from the Pacific Commonwealth, the Australian government, severed contact with the nation, refusing to do so, until they apologized for their 'senseless, and childish act.' In other South Island news, it seems that 90+% of the Island has joined the Souther Party.

Union Talks Die Again

Talks between Australia and Westralia died once again this year, as both sides disagreed on how to handle South Island's recent Political events. Westralia, was arguably pro-South Island, while Australia, still upset over the Tasmanian debacle, has cut off relations with the small island. The talks, to unify the two nations have been occurring for the past 60 some years, but as time goes on, both nations seem destined to simply continue going their own way.

Is There Anybody Out There?

With the war in Russia going so poorly, no one has really focused any attention to the fact that the Russian 'colony' in Antarctica was highly reliant on food shipments from St. Petersburg. With the total and complete blockade of the Russian coast line, food shipments stopped arriving about halfway through the year. Save for the occasional sympathy shipment from Patagonia, the world seems to of forgotten about Camp Dzensky. The result? Several dozen dead Russians, and about 50 more starving ones. The profitless colony has all but ceased to exist, and without supplies, it has all but disappeared. The survivors have managed to contact several European nations for help, but none has arrived yet.
