4000 BC
I start a worker build, and research begins on animal husbandry.

3900 BC
A hut is popped for a boring map.

3775 BC
(IT) Our warrior defeats a lion, but another one is on the way.

3750 BC
(IT) We already lost our exploring warrior. :(

3550 BC
(IT) Our next research project is mysticism. Our UB really calls for Stonehenge.

3325 BC
(IT) The next research project is mining.

3050 BC
(IT) Bronze working is up next.

2725 BC
(IT) Our next exploring warrior barely leaves our borders, and gets hit hard by a lion.

2550 BC
(IT) Bronze working completes, and I revolt to slavery. We have copper by our capitol. :)
We need to be able to build an economy, so I start on the wheel heading toward pottery.

2525 BC
I kill a lion near to our warrior; just to have another lion show up.
(IT) As expected, we lost another warrior.

New Updates
I hope the RnG has gotten its mean streak out of the way.

After the hill is chopped, it is time to hook up that copper. We need to get some quality units out exploring. I can't recall the last game when after 60 turns I have *no* contact with another AI.

Remember 15 peace / 10 war turns per round. STRICT 24 hours got it, total 48 hours to complete.

Win target: open

Planned wars - none at this time.

This is our initial starting area.
Very little is know due to horrid animal luck.

Land looks nice and green so we should definitely go with cottage economy. I'm little dissappointed with our warriors lack of woodsman skills :)

Btw. there is no rush to hook up that copper because Dog Soldier is resourceless unit.

Pretty juicy start.

Any ideas for a second city location? 2S of the pigs on the river perhaps?

Got it.

IIRC there was zero food or resources that direction. That city would have to steal food from our capitol. We would have to commit to fishing and get workboats to the clams to offset the food loss.
I was debating near the cows and spices, even if we have to sacrifice one spice to get fresh water.

I would forget about the fresh water bonus. We have plenty of health resources. I think optimal location would be on top of plain forest, to get cows + spices. And then just cottage the rest.

Only problem might be the lack of production though... So we could also go 1 east.

We stand on a threshold of a new world, or at least a new city

The settler has not been moved thugh the site to the west is looking better and better.

Roosey mut have heard LK's plaint as in 2475 (T61) met this dude riding on the back of an archer and coming in from the NW

Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

After Stonehenge in 2400 (T64) put the capitol on a high food high cash diet while waiting for a couple of shields in the bin and for growth to 6 to rush a Dog Warrior then back to high hammer/food output for the settler. The chop for Stonehenge completed with only 1 hammer overflow, BTW.

The Dog went south just to see what he could see and managed to kill all the lions that ate LK's explorers - killed three I think, then he headed back NW to meet the settler soon to arrive. He did manage to bust a hut for some more gold, 34 I think it must have been.

Took the research path to Writing by way of Pottery. And when the settler finished started a second worker which should complete about the time the warrior whip wears off.

Meiz is up! Welcome to LK's Happy Few.

Glad to be aboard.

2050 BC
We should rename our new city, I don't see much poverty there in the near future :) Dog beats the bear after he learned extra combat tricks. (Maybe I should teach my dog as well...)

Civ4ScreenShot0000.jpg

1975 BC
Pottery completes and continue to Writing. Capital starts building another dog soldier and Poverty Point starts Granary.

1875 BC
Meet Charlemagne coming from south.

1800 BC
First barbarian archer sighted.

Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

1750 BC
Great Wall built in a far away land. Here are our lands.

Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

Capital is building our third dog soldier. After it finishes and city grows, we should start building a settler. Worker is finishing forest chop / mine so some extra hammers are on the way.

Most alarming is our lack of happiness resources. Here's my suggestions for the future. I think we should start researching Polytheism -> Priesthood and go for Oracle. Take Monarchy for heredraty rule and meanwhile research Hunting -> Archery for cheap but effectly military police units. Gotta get some use from free totem poles, right? Shouldn't hurt our power rating either.

Our capital will produce great prophet which could be used to lightbulb Theology. We don't have to adopt christianity but we would have second GP in no time and that could be used for a shrine.

We are really lacking resources. I'm thinking we should maybe settle on top of forest, to get corn, pigs and copper. And again cottage every grassland tile.

Another place is south of our capital. Farm / mine everything and start building military units.

Ok I've played a couple of turns but I'm unsure about the research path. I'm not very experienced at Monarch in BtS, but I'm not sure if we still have a realistic shot at the Oracle. Polytheism + Priesthood will take us about 16 turns to research, plus a further ~15 turns (taking chopping into account) to complete the Oracle. I have experienced some games where the AI leaves some ancient Wonders until well into Medieval Times, but never the Oracle. Shooting for it and missing will cost us, since we have no immediate use for religious techs. I think we're better off clearing Archery first and then going for Math, IW or Alphabet.

I've been seeing the Oracle go absurdly early in BTS. I just played another game where it went way before 1000 BC.

Even if we get the Oracle, I don't think we can research enough to get something really good from it.

New Updates
I would like the DS to explore near the wines. We don't have a lot of happy resources, and I want to see if a viable city location is available to claim them.

Our military situation is very scary with Poverty Point empty. I would like another DS built after the current one.

Cahokia and Poverty Point are both heavy production cities with some income. I would like to get a heavy income city next. This city would steal on of the food tiles from Cahokia; with Cahokia building a fishing boat to get clams to offset the food lose.

i think that we should grab the corn/copper/pigs site next, that is a really good one.
also let's not forget the bonus from levees apart from the health bonus from settling by rivers.

Oracle will be a big gamble so we can forget about that if you like.

I still think that Monarchy and heredraty rule will be essential to us and this just gets highlighted with those wines. Otherwise we will be stuck with very low sized cities. I would rather get there sooner than later.

I also prefer corn/copper/pigs city next.

Can you post a dot-map of this proposed site?

I've already done both of these. I'll complete my turnset when I get home. Founding city #3 will be up to the next player anyway.

short on time, but found it on the forest 1W of grassland hill, isn't that the only way to get all three recourses?

no, my bad. 1W of that spot also works, although it claims lots of mountains, but then maybe we can put another city on the river.

We have to go through Polytheism/Priesthood to get to Hereditary Rule, do we not? So as start on the Oracle would net us some cash anyway, if we aren't building settlers or Dog Soldiers in Cahokia.
