Unload the attached zip into your Civ3 units directory, and then run the batch file.

For my PC it is: C:\Program Files\2K Games\Civilization III Complete\Art\Units

Without this, as some point the game will crash when we encounter the new unique units in this game.
It has been so long since I did this, I can't recall if it goes in CivIII root, or under conquests.

I recall initial research is all but impossible, so I pick bronze working initial for a 50 turn crawl at minimum science.
We usually didn't catch up until meeting the Americas and had a decent size empire.
Early exploration is the key in the WM games.. We may pull of some early trades if we meet people fast.

    [3650 BC]
We meet point-blank Mongolia, and trade masonry for burial and $10.

    [3400 BC]
We meet India, and trade masonry for pottery and $45. He had alphabet, but we didn't have enough to trade for it.

    [2800 BC]
We meet Persia, but no trade action.

    [2750 BC]
We just make furry cow wheat. We only got it as the Mongolia settler first walked to our capitol.

    [2430 BC]
We pop a hut, and get some angry barbs above Mongolia.

    [2350 BC]
We were booted to the opposite side of Persia letting us contact Babylon. No deals happened.

    [2070 BC]
We pop a hut, and get some angry barbs in Siberia.

    [2030 BC]
We meet Greece, and give him warrior code, $260, $1 / turn for a worker and the wheel.

    Summary:
We have one decent site toward Siberia with cows and deer.

We need to explore a bit more, but we want something in the south between the horses and multiple cow spots.

Shanghai should be a nice worker / settle pump once the granary is done. The border should pop soon thanks to the temple chopped out. Mongolia is already being a cultural pain on that city, so we need to get more culture options for their ASAP. Losing that city would be a disaster.

The warrior by Babylon should NOT risk popping a hut. Contact with more civs is to valuable. The Greek contact got me an unexpected tech.

I don't think we are ready for self-research yet, so we should pick another 50-turn tech.

ADD ON: I don't know how fast we can get galley, but we really want to beat the AI to the islands such as Japan.

another LK succession game? i sure have not counted that in during my lifetime anymore!

good to see you back in action!

which level is this one played on? and i fail to remember the specials of your WM... what is it doing? will that installation change the standard settings of the game?

as for the start, in case that file does not change A LOT, and by a lot i mean: more than Sid level, minimum research never does you any good for 1st tier techs in civ3. not even on Sid. then better skip the research altogether.
in very few cases, it is ok for Writing as a 2nd tier tech.

i may have asked to join, but that roster filled with veterans just so quickly. not that i actually have the time for a SG, but it is always a pleasure to ride together with one of the GREAT OLD ONES. ;-)

Checking in. Haven't located my C3C disk, but I should be able to buy the thing off steam for 5 bucks I'm told. Any problems, I'll let you know, but I don't expect any.

BTW: I have not played one of your world map games before. Anything I should know other than the need to edit the files for the new civs?

The world map adds a bunch of new civs by recycling civs. Europe is already to crowed so UK, Rome, etc became Civs to help use up other parts of the world such as Australia, South America and west Africa.
It won't affect a standard game.
The tech rate is WAY slower in the WM. Without the game was in the modern era way to soon.

As long as you run that batch you should be fine. The setup follow the game.

I can't really play until Saturday, when I have absolutely nothing to do all day. I also have to play RSG5 (I think it's 5) on Saturday.

Todd, can you swap and play before Saturday?
Pretty easy right now - get more settlers and escorts out. Hopefully find another happy resource.

I can try to work it in today, but am not sure. I'm geting a marriage license in a little bit, and then my fiance and I talking with an adoption coordinator (we're trying to adopt a child from Russia), and then I'm going to the Cardinals/Giants game tonite.... dicey.

Also, I have not played Civ 3 in years. Although I do remember the mechanics fairly well, and did play other world map games (not yours) in the past, I was hoping to do a little "bringing myself up to speed" before I played by reading through your WM threads. If one of the others can for sure play today, perhaps it would be better for them to swap. It's the first time through, so we could adjust the order.

However, if no one else can play today, I'll do my best to work it in before the game. And do my best ot keep the :smoke: to a minimum.

Edit: I can almost surely play tomorrow night too...

One thing I remember about these crowded maps with a lot of civs is to give in to demands by the AI. If you don't you can get a domino effect where you end up at war with everyone which even if you survive, it really stunts your growth.

    Tomorrow night would be fine.

Very true - especially with us on the land mass with most of the other civs.

Also, the cascade will most like break trade routes, and destroy our rep.
Early resource trading can be very dangerous and should only done with short distance civs for now. An early resource trade to Americas will most likely break. Australia is flaky until we've mapped a lot of those islands.

For the moment our goal is simply to grab every decent site. Somewhere out the should be at least 2 more happy resources. The game usually puts 3 in America, 3 in Asia. The last can be odd - I've seen Greenland with happy resource. Australia is flaky for getting them. We *might* have a 4th happy on this map.

Just so everyone knows - I have NO issues with using tools such as mapstat. When our empire starts hitting 50+ cities later you need a tool to help.

I got the game installed and working yesterday after finding my disks, and started up a game to get some re-education going, and it's amazing how much you can forget over like 8 years or whatever. I still think I can handle it, as quite a lot is comming back as I play through my own game. but any suggestions for my impending turn, especially for city sites, would be greatly appreciated. I know to cave, never ask people to leave (deity rop), be careful with gpt trades (the trading system came back immediately), and all that stuff. It's the more subtle things like dotmaping,,,

Being deity, the one dot mapping thing to watch is to much overlap with AI cities. They can produce culture way faster then us. I didn't even like my second city in that area. Trouble was it was so food heavy I couldn't ignore it despite the overlap. That should become a great worker / settler pump.
Even that city got chopped temple to start us getting some culture.

I don't really have the time for this, and my Conquests won't work properly for some reason (damn you windows 7!). Count me out for now, but if I'm still wanted I might return when I have more time.

Alright, I see that I am up. I will try to play tonite when I get home from work. Failing that, I should be able to play tomorrow.

Never mind. I uninstalled and reinstalled the patch, and that fixed it. Playing now.
