I usually use the leader to rush the most expensive building unless there is a reason to hold it back for a few turns.

Are we soon ready to pound Brazil?

We have a decent block of troops building up along the Brazil border. However, we also need to build up to deal with all there spears floating along our cities. Unchecked, they could really pillage a lot of our territory.

I had a look at the save and saw the many units that are near or within our territory. I found with CCM2, the AI has a lot more units, whatever the reason. And city state unit support is meager.

USA sneak attacked us! I'd like a consensus on:

    1. Fight a holding action. Sign peace ASAP and keep building up for Brazil.

    2. Turn our troops around and head for Atlanta.

Thoughts? I'm only 1 turn in.

    Mid-turn report:

Pre-turn: Look around for MM opportunities. I manage to get Vancouver to grow faster.

Enslaver kills our Spear near Winnipeg.
USA sneak attacks us! They must think we have Oil
Bowman dies and promotes our Spear in Calgary.
    Second Bowman pillages.
3 Chariots attack and kill 2 Braves, capturing a Worker stack (2 slaves, 1 native)

    T1:

Move some troops towards Calgary. I retreat our surviving Worker force and get 5 defenders in the city. USA has 5 attackers in range, so here goes nothing!

    eSpear kills Bowman
Then Chariots run over the 2 Spears and an Enslaver.
a Brave smashes the last chariot!

    T2:

Freshly minted Catapult dies ignominiously to a Chariot :wallbash:
    Brave kills Chariot
eEnslaver dies to wounded Chariot
    Braves drive off 2 Chariots
    Brave kills Chariot, promotes

    IBT:

    Redlined chariot kills Brave :wallbash:
Brave drives away a chariot and kills another, but he's killed by an Enslaver.
Enemy Spear pillages our elephants. Wave bye-bye to the Gold trade :(

    T3:

Freshly-minted Siege Bow dies to Archer :wallbash:
I can't kill anything else without guaranteed losses, so I simply pack Calgary full of troops.

    IBT:

Montreal riots. They're THAT mad about the loss of the gold :(

    T4:

    Brave kills Spear x3
    Enslavers kill 3 Archers
    Brave kills Archer
    Brave forces Siege Xbow back
    Native Horse kills Catapult

    IBT:

    Horseman retreats from Calgary
Spear pillages irrigated tile NE of Calgary

    T5:

    Our Horse kills redlined Horse
    Brave dies to Spear :(

    CoL is available for trade.

We've done okay so far, but USA has over 50 units visible :(

I made a few Horsemen for tactical flexibility; now I'm back to Braves.

Exactly. I'm planning to finish the set later today. US forces are strong enough that I'm thinking about pulling forces off the Brazil border to help. If Calgary holds for the rest of the turnset, I think we might need more troops there to hold off the guys who are still in the fog.

OTOH, we should be able to sign peace by then...if USA is willing to negotiate. It seems like AIs take a lot longer before they'll negotiate in CCM than in C3C.

    Second opinions will be helpful.

I agree we need to pull our main forces to USA. IMO they should have already been heading there.
A single city loss will be very painful. It is bad enough we lost a handful of workers.

Send all the Chariots north plus some ground troops.
In about 5 turns we are going to get another settler (so is everyone else). It looks like Brazil will have to move North to settle a new city. So we should keep some troops in the south.
The USA might want to settle southwest of Atlanta where the stacks of troops are. Also, a nice spot for us to settle.

Toronto can produce a Spearman or Horseman every turn. Increase entertainment to 30%, keep only 1 clown the other clown works the forest in the south, switch from working the wheat to working the Bonus Grass.

    Remainder:

Lux to 30% as suggested. Troops move NE from Brazilian border.
MM according to JJ's excellent plans.

    IBT:

White screen as soon as Japan moves :(

    T6:

... looks like the Americans are heading for Vancouver now.

Restart computer, hoping to avoid white screen of confusion

Native Spear runs over an Enslaver between Calgary and Vancouver.
    Move troops towards Vancouver.
Unfortify and spacebar Spears in Calgary -- hopefully that will turn the USA troops around. I'd rather fight there than in the woods by Vancouver.

    IBT:

It worked! USA troops head NW instead of S :D

    T7:

    Native Brave kills Spear
    Horseman kills Spear. Road clear.
Native Braves kill 2 Spears and 3 Archers
Enslaver kills off the last Archer in the stack.
Next stack, we lose 1 Native Brave killing two Spears.
    Native Brave kills Archer
    eEnslaver* dies to Archer

Ugh. CA says that USA isn't willing to talk yet.
F4 says they *are* willing to talk! They'll pay us 9 gold for peace -- or give CoL for peace and 229 gold.
Japan wants 443 gold for CoL.

    I think it's worth it.

    IBT:

    USA turns around.

    T8:

I sell CoL to Brazil for 214 gold. I also turn the troops around AGAIN to build up on Brazil's border.

    IBT:

Korea and India are really going at it. I see a lot of action near our Scout.

    Propaganda upsets Vancouver.

    Clan appears.

    T9 (475 AD, Turn 120):

    Continue moving troops.

    * Wolfe is in Edmonton. My intent was to have him rush a Market after Slavery completes.
    * The Horseman a few tiles N of Montreal is carrying a Supply shipment, then he can return to Calgary for garrison duty or head for Brazil.
    * I moved most of our troops SW, but we do need some garrison just in case they try again. I'd say keep everything NE of the river near Vancouver and keep the units that Vancouver produces there.
    * We can declare on Brazil anytime. Maybe in 2-3 turns?
    * We need to discuss city sites. I see three main places: One, the game E of Vancouver. Two, the fish N of Calgary. Three, the Cows S of Winnipeg.

The Cow spot will overlap with Brazil, but that won't matter once we've taken Belo Horizonte.

There's a cow NW of Toronto, but it seems like a weaker site than the others.

Don't forget to have troops in place to deal with the piles walking to Japan. I don't want to suffer a lot of pillaging.

    Yeah, we killed the Enslaver.

Thoughts on city sites? We just popped a Clan; it's ready to start moving next turn.

Very good job  Elephantium. The resolution of the raid by the USA worked out much better that I expected.

I think we should build another port city. I like the Hill that is northwest of Calgary that gets 2 fish and a port. Also, looking at the little map of the world, it appears that the western and northern sides of our land mass will be where we should sail from.

Played 5 turns so far and have just taken the first Brazilian city. I acquired Elephant Training and will connect the phants next turn again. We can then train some war elephants. The lack of units that can retreat is hurting us this war.

@LK, I have made sure that the units in or around our territory are dealt with. No pillaging so far.
@Jersey Joe. I have sent the settler close to the two cows. Brazil has coastal cities. I am sure we will have enough of them soon.

What hurts us a lot is the lack of luxuries. We are stuck on a small continent with only 1 luxury. Ouch

Gold is a luxury, but that is still only 2 on this land mass.
