All victory conditions are enabled.

Civ = France
World = Standard, Wet, Warm, 5 Billion, large continents.
Difficulty = Monarch
Barbarians = Roaming
# Civs = 8
24 hours to verify you can play your turn, 48 hours to play.
Your choice, up to 20 turns. You can always play less.

I am starting the game up.

Good luck!
I'm just starting LK15 and still have the german equality to do, plus uni and of course work. So unfortunately I can't join but stil ... Good luck.

We start on food world. 4 wheat squares are spotted. The question, how can we use them the best?
3900 BC - Paris is formed.
3600 BC - GACK! We pop a goody hut close to Paris, angry barbs, and Paris ransacked.
We lose all of our gold
3400 BC - Snow alert, Snow alert.
3300 BC - Another hut of angry warriors.
3250 BC - An elite warrior.
3000 BC - With 2 wheat squares, Paris is clearly a worker / settler factory.
Build a settler. Order up a worker.
I can tell we are at Monarch - #8 of 8 for advanced nations.
Of course, 2 crap good huts don't help.
2850 BC - Does Monarch mean you always get angry barbs?
3 angry huts in a row - GACK!
2800 BC - Dead warrior :(
Orleans is started.
2670 BC - Finally, a usefull hut. OK, free Pottery is the best tech, but ...
2590 BC - Thank god, our 2 hp left warrior kills a barb.
2390 BC - Barb camp #1, barely defeated.
Barb camp # 2 easily toasted.
Palace expansion.
2230 BC - ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!
Back to normal. 4 out of 5 huts are angry warriors.
2190 BC - Warrior barely survives again.

Summary - NO contacts yet!
Micro-Manage Paris closely. I have been flipping between the wheat and double grasslands to speed up settler production.
I know I shaved several turns from settler production already.

Keep Orleans going on the Pyramids. This will really help offset Monarchy.

There are a lot of barbs around. NO unescorted settlers.

Looks like an LK13 cascade to me ;)

Game is closed

Our pretty nice starting area.

This would be a regent BLOWOUT!

Well LK12 and LK13 both eneded quite recently.

2150 BC: Lower science to 20%, since we will not be able to research our first tech any faster.

2070 BC: Our scholars have developed something that they call "writing," I have no idea what it is and I am sure it is of little importance. They now plan to use this "writing" to create something known as "literaure." They may as well spend their time making elves disappear, it would be just as productive.

2030 BC: Our valiant soldier dispells a barbarian. Our science rate is raise to 80%, shedding a signifficant amont of time off of our research of literature but at the price of breaking even.

1990 BC: The death of the barbarian was avenged by his brothers and rumors are that they feasted on our fallen hero. The glorious city of Lyons is founded and with any luck it will develop into the commercial capital of our fledgling empire.

1870 BC: Our warrior to the south has spotted signs of civilization but it is too early to tell who these strange people are.

1830 BC: These southern people call themselves Zulu and they posses many techs that our people lack. We tried to barter with them but in the end we decided this was an edeavor that was best left for another day.

1700 BC: Our warrior spots signs of another new people. We have heard reports from the Zulu's of another group known as the Japanese but we are not sure if they are the same people we are starting to run into.

1675 BC: The strange people turn out to be the Japanese and much to our suprise they are right next to the Zulu. They share the same four techs that the Zulu posses and like the Zulu, they lack the alphabet and writing but for now I am happy letting these savages keep to themeselves.

1625: Rheims founded near the wines west of Paris. In retrospect, I could have selected a much better spot but my succession game instincts kicked in and I took the fastest route to securing a luxory. Rheims was ransacked becuase I was too impatient to wait for an escort, luckily the city was built before the barb could get us but that may or may not have been a bad thing.

We currently have 90 gold in our treasury and if I had been running at a lower science rate we could of had much more money by this point but I felt that money spent on getting the Great Library would be just as valuable if not more so than money spent on trading. We do have enough gold to buy two techs from either the Japanese or Zulu but I will let the next leader decide on that. Please be more careful on city planning than I was. If it were not for self-restraint, I probably would have started over and selected a new site for Rheims but the city is built now and soon it will bring wines to our land.

We have a lot of distance between us and our neighbors and I suggest that early on we focus on expansion and wonder building, the other two civs are close enough to eachother that I don't think we will need to worry about any impending raids.

Good luck to the next leader and you will probably want to lower the research rate after we get literature and you should choose a site for the Great Library and start its production ASAP.

 Two war happy civs. Japan is always trouble for me :(

I am no rush to get to close to there borders.

We still need to explore the snow zone north of us.
:goodjob: in Lyon. We need some barracks, and quality troops.

Get a worker back to Orleans ASAP. We have no chance at Pyramids with 55 turns to go. It expands in 7, we need to mine a grassland.

We probably need another worker.

I'm not usre I'll have time to play this tonight. If Shdwlord wants to trade positions I wouldn't mind. I still have one of the B games to play (Cant even remember which one!)

Shdwlord, if you do switch - POST that you are.

I won't be able to play for at about 8 hours, if Brian hasn't played by then, I will. I work 3rd shift, so anything after 8-9 pm would make it impossible for me to post the game until the morning.

Inherited: The wheel and bronze working purchased from japan for 90 gold. We have 2 sources of horses. Japan goes from annoyed to cautious.

1) 1500 Lyons finishes barracks, begins spearmen.
Barbarian horseman moves next to Rheims, which is undefended.

2) 1475 Barbarians loot 1 gold from Rheims.

3) 1450 Paris's border expands to cover the wines.

4) 1425 The Japanese are building the Oracle.

5) 1400 Road to wines is completed.

6) 1375 Tours founded.

7) 1350 Literature learned, map making begun. Lyons begins the great library.

8) 1325

9) 1300

10) 1275

11) 1250

12) 1225

13) 1200

14) 1175 Barbarian attacks spearman in Orleans, spearman fights bravely to defend the city. The people are so impressed, they expand the palace.

15) 1150

16) 1125 Marseilles founded.

17) 1100

18) 1075

19) 1050

20) 1025

Don't let Orleans grow to size 6. When the mine in the mountain comes online, move the worker in the forest to the mountain. Lyons then needs to be improved. Lyons can grow another pop point if it gets a second defender. Once Paris gets its barracks (4 turns) it can churn out spearmen/settler groups quickly. Map making comes in 5 turns, we can probably get all the japanese/zulu techs for our world map. after that, we need to lower science alot and build up some cash. Don't trade lit until you are sure that we will get the great library.

Preturn:
I see barracks being built in all fronteer cities but no defenders in a few!

1000 BC:
WooHoo got to move a warrior.. that was bundles of fun :)

975 BC:
The same. Party time

950 BC:
Barbarian horseman moves next to Marseilles, which is undefended. Oh no! They are going to steal our 5 gold! :)

925 BC:
Nope they destroyed our barracks.

Orleans is rioting!

900 BC:
We complete MapMaking and start Cerimonial Burial.

We disperse a Gepid encampment just as another horse appears.

875 BC:
The horse stole 4 gold.

850 AD:
Paris pumps out a spear and starts a settler.
Science rate dropped to 70 to avoid the deficit.

825 BC:
Zzzz

800 BC:
Complete Cerimonial Burial and start Warrior Code.

775 AD:
Zzzz

750 AD:
Another hut is spotted to the north.

730 BC:
The hut contains 3 barbarians! Figures.. Welcome to Monarch indeed.

710 AD:
Warrior Code is complete, Iron Working is started.
Our warrior is now elite after defeating the 3 barbs.

690 AD:
Japan wants Literature! (Demanding) We are in no shape for a war so I agree.

We trade Zulu Map Making for Horseback Riding.

We get Mysticism and Iron Working from the Japanese. Saves us 6 turns of research in Iron and the Zulus would have traded it anyway.

There is Iron to our north!

670 BC:
We get a skilled ARMY from a hut!

650 AD:
Zimbabwe has completed the Oracle. starts the G.L.

The Army reaches Rheims, where it will stay until we can build Swordsmen!

630 BC:
Steeltown is formed, guess where?

610 BC:
We link up horses to our net.

590 BC:
Zzzz

570 BC:
Pyramids in 11 turns, Gl in 45. More mines should help speed things up there..

Sorry if you guys didn't agree with my caving over Lit to the Japanese. There was no way I wanted to risk war at this stage. Things will get interesting once we link up that Iron and make a Swordsman army though! :D

Pre-turn:
I switch to get another worker.
20% luxuries, and Pyramids in less time.

490 BC - The Japanesse are building the Hanging gardens. They have Monarchy already!
This royally bites - Pyramids built in Delhi. We missed by **2** lousy turns.
Earlier luxury rate increase and we would have gotten it.
Begin research on code of laws.
470 BC - English complete the great wall.
450 BC - Well, at least we get the Great Library.
430 BC - Philosphy, Polytheism for free.
Japan completes the Hanging Gardens.
350 BC - The GL is still working. Code of Laws for free. Monarchy for Free.
250 BC - The barb camp in the ice area is gone :)
Chartes is formed.
I really didn't want the forbidden palace request already.
170 BC - Massive barb uprising by Rheims
150 BC - We complete the Great Lighthouse.
110 BC - Avigon is formed.
The barb stack turns to Chartes - GACK!
This is sick, but I give the Zulu $50 for world map. Better then the barbs getting it, I think.
Our people are impressed with the Japanesse culutral acheivements - NOT GOOD!
We need more culture generate buildings.
I establish an overdue embassy with the Zulu.
Construction for free.

Summary - I exceeded 20 turns, but it didn't feel right to stick someone else with the barb uprsing.

A settler is heading to the ice land. 1 north can get 2 grasslands (after choping forest, and a whale after temple). Build the temple quickly.

I am recalling our 2 warriors near Japan / Zulu. At this point, I want to upgrade them.

Our working force is now decent.

No suggestion on next as we need badly - more cities, more culture, more military, etc.
