Here's the full midset report. I won't have a ton of time to play this weekend, so it will likely be Sunday evening before I can play another 5 turns. I can hand off now if the next player has time this weekend.

    Pre-turn:

I look around and move some troops away from coastlines that are currently outside our culture borders.

IBT - we see naval explorers for both Australia and Indo-China move.
    Renaissance > Printing Press

T210 - Move troops towards the jumping-off point.

T211 - More troop movements; road is built into the tundra

T212 - Road is built to the seal now. Our armada is beginning to assemble - almost ready to load troops!

IBT - Indo-China lands a unit next to Marseilles!
Big wonder cascade, too. Great Playhouse in Thebes, The Arsenal in Hamburg, and Holy Book Printed in Malinalco

T213 - Cataphract runs down the XBow that Indo-China just landed.

IBT - PP > Sacred Art (due in 5 vs. Uni in 7)

East India Company built by the Arabs

T214 - Set Library builds everywhere. Send first wave of ships towards the far shore. Start build of Topkapi Palace

    IBT -

Aztecs complete Neuschwanstein AND Taj Mahal!

T215 - The Settler is in place to build the city on our shore next turn; I embark more troops for the second wave of ships (a third wave will be in two more turns).

Elephantine, the research slider is set at 60% did you have it at 70% when you checked to see how long it would take to learn Scared Art? Scared Art has the same base cost as Printing Press, so we should have been able to learn it in 4 turns.

If you set it to 70% now with the coming Golden Age we might learn it in 4 turns total.

Yah, 4 turns at 3.5.2 Sorry -- I should have mentioned tweaking the slider from 50% to 60%.

Good to know it was a 4 turn research  Well you know your posts are being read. :D

We should consider cash rushing libraries (and markets) in cities like Paris that have lots of commerce and very few shields.

I think we should research Naval Guns (maybe even Exploration) before University.

Don't forget those low shield cities can hire a ton of engineers. I did some of that my last set. 5+ engineers can speed up a library real quick, and don't waste our precious cash. That cash may keep us close to 4-turn the rest quite a few more techs.

Ya, I also found engineers the way to go for most cities. I would get rid of the Entertainers and go with two or more Engineer instead for the French towns.

@ThERat - would you be okay with a swap after Tusker is done.
I have Monday off. After that limited play time for several days.

    Let me know.

@JerseyJoe - why get Naval Guns first? It and Uni cost the same, so we don't get any research efficiency.

OTOH, it unlocks the Jolly Roger and Dhow (Cannons), which improves our shipping efficiency.

I had time to play a couple of turns this morning - we're now in the GA :D

@LK, if the saves comes in on Sunday, I can play my turns first, otherwise you can take it to play.

I like it for the shipping efficiency, and the sooner Jolly Roger gets built the quicker we get a decent "War Ship". Also, Universities require 400 shields to build. If we go Naval Guns -> University; cities could use Great Religious Center (160 shields) as a pre-build (the really good production cities can build troops until they start to pre-build).

Aztecs complete Neuschwanstein AND Taj Mahal!

T215 - The Settler is in place to build the city on our shore next turn.

IBT - Topkapi Palace built; Golden Age begins!

    T216 - Lots of MM.

Kafa founded at the edge of the tundra on our shore.

IBT - first harassment of our shipping. An Indo-Chinese Atakabune bombards one of our Dhows.

T217 - Ankara built across the western sea
Salonika built on JerseyJoe's red City 1 site near Rio

IBT - Australia loses two Galleasses on our (now 2/5) Medieval Naval Explorer.
    Indo-China sinks it.

    Sacred Art > Naval Guns

T218 - Land 3 Workers and build our first section of road on the second continent.

IBT - first loss on the other continent. An Aussie Treb kills one of our Knights.
An Indo-Chinese ship suicides vs. one of our Dhows.

T219 - Knights kill enemy horseman (probably Hussar, but I didn't check the label) and Treb, revealing two War Elephants ready for action on the tile beyond.

IBT - Two WEs kill our exposed Knight near Cairns (one dies in the attack)

T220 - We attack Australia's advance field army:
    One Knight retreats
    One dies
    One kills a Koori Spearman
    One kills a wounded Pike
    Another kills a second KS
The Aussie stack is down to 1 Xbow.

The next few turns should prove exciting as the Aussies try to throw us back into the sea. Unfortunately for them, we have over 70 units waiting to cross and a busy fleet of Dhows.

    Here's the battle line:

Great to see the golden age. At our empire size, it will be very nice.

The next land mass begins. I'm in no rush to advance until we know we got rid of the initial wave.

Depending on timing, I may ask for swap with Joe. Today was my wide open day, but it is almost over now. Very limited play time until Sunday.

This is by no means seems won yet. We got out own land mass. However, 1702 AD seems awful late for how few civs we have killed.
I can't wait for rails that are still quite a few techs away. We don't even know if we have coal yet.

Nice to see a foot hold on the other land mass. :goodjob: We should use some of the excess cash the Golden Age is generating to rush a Castle and Harbor in Ankara.

We should stop building Slavery, it will be obsolete in about 50-54 turns when we learn Enlightenment.

    Question:
I am on turn 6 and we just research uni. Question is, do we go for exploration or physics, both can be done in 4 turns btw

Don't have game access. What can we gain from each?

Exploration gets us better ships. Physics gets us ... Observatories, I think?

Either way, we need both techs before we can research Absolutism. Based on shipping, I'd say go for Exploration first.
