LK162, Japan, 500K culture

The next city site with troops and settler heading that way. The blue line in the roads we need. This is close America, and where I lost the chariot to enslaver. The first build needs to be walls.

Summary:
Monarchy research is underway. We need the tile penalty to go away.

Osaka is working on World Religion Buddhism. This gives us a FREE Buddhist community in every city. These are the wonders we want above all. Every conquered city instantly starts adding to our culture count.

Once the mine is done by Tokyo please send those workers south to connect our new city to the network.
The worker stack by Osaka needs to stay there. We need every last shield to try and snag the wonder. They are mining another forest right now.

Why not place the proposed city 1 tile NE to snag the gold mountain?

/relurk

IIRC gold is a goods resource like iron. It affects getting a few buildings down the line. By that time I expect to have that city to have 3rd ring borders.

Also, that puts the city with cultural overlap with USA. I'd prefer to avoid that for now.

2 Problems with USA.
1) The deal for them sending us Wines has run out. I am going to trade a tech to them and get Wines back as part of the trade.
2) Look where they settled Atlanta.

I plan on settling on the red circle. An alternative is the gold star (one tile overlap with Osaka).
Any suggestions or comments?

My vote is red circle. We want to get those southern grasslands. North clashes with Nubia. East is meh.

Continuing 375 BC: no changes

350 BC:

Trade: Code of Laws to USA for Wine and 5 gold. Best I could do, USA is broke.

325 BC:
Trade: Code of Laws to Austria for 19 gold and 2 gpt.

300 BC:
Trade: Literature to Inca for 152 gold and 27 gpt.
Literature to Brazil for 82 gold and 13 gpt.
Literature to Australia for 71 gold and 13 gpt.
Literature to Nubia for 35 gold and 7 gpt.

IBT: Maghreb destroyed by Persia.

275 BC:
Our ship exploring the west coast meets a ship from Israel.
Trade: Code of Laws to Israel for Gems.

250 BC & 225 BC:

200 BC:
Our ship exploring the west coast finds India.

175 BC:

150 BC:
Trade: Dyes and 632 Gold to India for Monarchy. Our people revolt.

125 BC: The revolution continues.

100 BC: We are now a Monarchy.

I hope we don’t lose World religion Buddhism due to the Monarchy revolt. Growth will be faster, but will it offset two lost turns?

We now have 3 cities that can produce vet troops. Can we get at least one building troops? At the minimum we need escorts for the next clan coming up in Greebley’s set.

Now that we are a monarchy, harbors are worth it in cities with pearls.
Can whispering pines swap to walls? We know American has enslavers in that area, as I lost a chariot.

We are flooded with cash. It is time to at least partial rush stuff. Switch Kani to granary, rush, and back to academy. Now it is just 4 turns. Whispering Pines is also shield poor, and would benefit from some full / partial rushes.

Next turn, Tokyo will have the Iron in its boundaries. We should use some of the cash we have to upgrade Spearmen.

We might be able to complete World Religion in 8 turns. We need to mine the Mountain next after we finish the mine being worked on. Working the mined Mountain and newly mined Forest tile should get us to 20 shields per turn (if no additional shields are lost to corruption). That should allow us to finish in 8 turns.

Preturn: Switched Kani and Capitol to a Harbor both to complete next turn. Getting above 2 food seems worth waiting on other builds - it will double both towns growth without needing to wait for the workers to free up.

IBT: Warrior Spotted

75 BC: new worker to Upgrade. Move Slavers one square away from Warrior

IBT: Gain a Holy Man

50 BC: We win the fight against the Warrior and gain a Worker. Both new Workers head toward world rel city. Upgraded Warriors. Raise Lux since Osaka grew.

IBT: Gained worker on defense when our Enslaver got attacked.

25 BC: Buddism is in 5 turns so we seem on track for the 8 turns mentioned without the mountain which is still being built. Managed because of Osaka's growth. Will continue improving area a bit more.

We have enough for the US so trying to form a war party for Atlanta.

1 AD: Neat - when mountain completed I can reduce a further turn so it is due in 3 now. Sold Monarchy to 2 civs for around 24 gpt each. We also met Indo-China - one of the civs we sold Monarchy.

25 AD: Wispering Pines connected now. Clan is going to head toward the Hardwood.

50 AD: We will get Buddism next turn.

So lets see how this goes...
Declare war on US . Kill 2 Spear but they have at least 3.

75 AD: Catapults kill 2 Spear and we capture Atlanta. Built one more Mine. Great Library in 16 sounds decent, but we don't have a forge yet. I (short) rush it to get it next turn.

IBT: We got Naval warfare. Unfortunately so does the AI now that we reduced the cost for them as they start the Great lighthouse.

100 AD: We also get lucky on tech. Persia has Republic but not Religion or Monarchy so we can trade straight tech for tech.

I check two of the sites building the Great Libarary and Brazil is building in their Capitol taking 16 compared to our 14. Check one other and it is 88 turns. I think it might be worth a try to see if we can get it. We have 5 turns to "change our minds" with a building we can build.

125 AD: Rush walls in Atlanta. Nothing to attack.

150 AD: Archers defended by Spear. Decide to not attack outward but try to defend vs Spear.

IBT: Spear hold and all 3 are Elite.

175 AD: Kill remains of Archer stack. 4 Spear go into the hills which I ignore. We lost a Chariot. Got a Monk which I use on Atlanta.

200 AD: Kill three of the Spear to save square from Pillage. Lost a Sword. Yogi got no Monk.
Built Peatnwood to grab the hardwood and peat.

225 AD: Roaded gold but it actually didn't help to move farther because city is across a river. Got a second Monk but didn't use. Figure we can wait for 2x (unless we want to use on a captured city)

Stopping here on turn 110.

Notes:
Lined up some forces for Philly on the gold hill but I think we also want Catapract and Chariot as well before we move forward (i.e. wait one turn for those 2 to catch up).

Need 2 more Spear for our cities at some point.

The war is mostly to gain more cities (for more culture) and because USA is crowding us. We are playing Emporer level so I think enemy forces will be lighter.

One spear wandered past Atlanta and is NE of Osaka. Make sure it doesn't pillage. I circled in yellow on map image below.

Roading to Peatnwood to connect hardwood.

Great Library is a gamble down to 9 turns now. I say lets try.

Kyoto can build School of Navigators. Might be worth short rushing Forge to get sooner.

Monk is in Osaka.

I didn't think we would see a war this soon. I do agree America was crowding us. More important is some of their cities are also that wonderful grassland.

Monks don't give much culture. Feel free to use them for culture bombs.

World Buddhism is already paying off. It already gives 2 extra CPT from Peatnwood and Atlanta. As we gain more cities it will pay off even better. Plus it gives 3 CPT from the wonder. That one is early enough to hit the doubling point.

Can we please start building military? Despite being at war with USA we have none being built.

Great reports :goodjob: - but some outdated sigs: Greebley has the sig of still playing LK160 Turkey and LKendter the sig of playing LK161, 1 city culture. :D

Very good progress Greebley :goodjob:.
I think we should look on the Great Library as a prebuild. It goes obsolete with Chivalry, at best we might get 2 Settlers from it.

I just checked the save.
I was wrong about treating the Great Library as a prebuild. I was thinking we could just swap into Circus Maximus. However, to build Circus Maximus you need to have a Coliseum in the city.
Many of the civ's currently building the Great Library started early in my turn when they learned Literature.

If Kyoto rushes the Forge it should have a decent chance of building the Great Lighhouse. Of course we should move more workers over there to mine the hills.

I've got it.

First priority: Build military.
Second priority: Seize Philadelphia. I'll march on Washington from there with reinforcements build during the first half of the turnset.

I haven't seen a consensus on trying to build the Great Library. I don't like the idea of going for multiple Wonders simultaneously -- not with the need to build some military units.

Any other thoughts?

We could turn off science if we get GL. Then use all the cash for rushing. We have a lot of cash for this early. We should be cash rushing now that we are in monarchy.
