LK165 - CCM, Deity, Space Race, Arabia

There was agreement on:
Buy Mil Trad right away as set iron horse saloon to Mil Academy.
Don't forget after that MT and < 3960 gets enlightenment from Spain.

We have another Settler. Thoughts on placement?

We also got a Leader!

2 possible city sites (though they are a rather long walk) are (1) 5 tiles northwest of Surf city on the coast with hardwood to the northeast; (2) on the coast 2 tiles north of Leptis Magna.

Also, since you are getting Democracy next turn, I suggest using the Leader to build the Constitution (gives a happy face to every city) in some close by city that cannot flip.

Further, I will lobby for the Capitol to be built in Mekka and,
the Army Headquarters to be built (after we become a Democracy) in Cheju.

I did not check to see if Enlightenment gives us any small or great wonders.

Constitution and Army HQ cost 400 shields. Capitol costs 500. I'm inclined to use the leader on the Capitol. Cheju can get up to around 40 spt (Army HQ in 10), and Surf City is at 58spt (Constitution in 4 turns). Hmm, OTOH, maybe rushing Army HQ is more important.

Any other suggestions, team?

Oh - in other news, the war goes badly. We lost both Casablanca (retaken) and Leptis Magna (held) in culture flips. Maghreb landed a HUGE stack (8 units) next to Tangier and retook the city. They have Arabian Line Infantry (6-6-1) now, and I barely have enough units to deal with their units coming in. This will take about 10 turns to improve. We have more units being built now, but they'll take several turns to move to the front.

Other than the high % chance of losing Casablanca again to a culture flip, I'm half-inclined to make peace with Maghreb and attack Turkey. Thoughts?

As long as WW is good, I want to wipe Maghreb. Otherwise, we will wind up losing most cities to culture flips.

Both Army Headquarters and the Capitol provide a barracks. However, Army Headquarters can only be built when we are a Democracy, and we should wait to revolt into Democracy until we are not at war.

Only reason I suggested rushing Constitution was for the happy face.

Enlightenment gives us Cavalry which should help with Maghreb Line Infantry.

Pre-turn:

Odd, I can see Spanish units even in the fog. Is it a debug setting that hasn't been turned off?

We buy Military Tradition from Germany for 3907 + iron.

Hear me out!

This means that we can rush a Uni from 0 next turn.

Democracy is due in 7.

I don't see any reason to stop building Great Palace in Bagdad, so I leave it be.

Handoff notes:

The Maghreb war went badly. We're at 30% lux to deal with WW. Losses have been high. I've only barely managed to get any infantry reinforcements to the front as of the end of my turnset. However, now that we have troops en route, we should be able to go on the offensive. I have an attack stack started near Casablanca; it could retake Tangier soon.

Exploring has gone well. Spain is gone. We've met a few new tribes. Research is going reasonably well, too, but we have more to do once we grab the Maghreb lands.

We have a Clan in Babylon. We're kind of hemmed in for city sites. I left the other Settler un-moved near Zaragoza in case the next player wants to send it east again.

Odd, I can see Spanish units even in the fog. Is it a debug setting that hasn't been turned off?

Elephantium, I am not aware of such a bug in CCM 2.50. The effect you have described also is taking place, when the military plans of a civ (in that case Spain) were stolen.

Got it

1785 AD (0)
I space bar the settler. For now, it is useless.

I cash rush a bunch of units. After that, I make the revolt to democracy.

I ship USA silver for $90 and $6/T.
(IT) Maghreb was caught trying to plant a spy.

Poland is moving a ton of units. They are probably in a war somewhere.

I killed Maghreb: 1 infantry. (1-0)
I lost: 1 exploring ship and 2 infantry. (1-3)

1790 AD (1)
I’m going to send our empty steamers to explore. There isn’t much reason to keep them for invasions.

Our pirate frigate kills 1 Israel galleasses. (2-3)

I kill Maghreb: 1 paddle wheeler. (3-3)
(IT) Our final government of democracy has arrived.
I lost a pirate. (3-4)

1795 AD (2)
The assault of Tangier begins. I kill 3 infantry and 1 Numidian. I lost 1 cavalry. (7-5)
I gained $5,364.
Tangier Cuirassier arrived during the fight. Medina gets the most expensive rush of an observatory.

The rubber source is finally connected.

I kill Maghreb: 3 Grenadier and 1 cannon. I lost 1 Cuirassier. (11-6)

Migrant workers begin to get built for 10 shields giving a 25% shield boost.
(IT) A unit gets auto-booted by Israel.
Someone’s lawyer kills our explorer. (11-7)
I kill Maghreb: 1 infantry. (12-7)
I lost 1 cavalry. (12-8)
I just spotted a Maghreb adventurer.

1800 AD (3)
The assault of Rabat begins. I kill 2 pikes. (14-8)
I gain $3,810 and 3 workers.

I short rush another block of units. This war needs to end soon, and more troops are the only thing that will do it. IMHO peace would be a disaster, as multiple cities would probably flip.

I give the Inca coal and $3,696 to finish up 6 turns of research on Napoleonic Age. I can’t buy Industrialization yet. I really want railroads to start under construction.

I kill Maghreb: 1 grenadier and 1 cannon. (16-8)
I lost: 1 pirate and 1 cavalry. (16-10)
(IT) A unit gets auto-booted by USA.
I caught the Inca trying to plant a spy.

1802 AD (4)
I short rush another block of cavalry. I will need to gain another Maghreb city soon to keep this up. I burned 1,640 this turn doing it. There is still 8K in the bank, but I also want to buy industrialization soon. I’m trying to get to rails ASAP.
I kill Maghreb: 1 musket and 1 crossbow. (18-10)
(IT) A unit gets auto-booted by Inca.
I caught Britain trying to plant a spy.

1804 AD (5)
The troops coming back from Spain land by Rabat.
I have to clean up another landing by Rabat.
I hit a Germany worker and enslave it. That is the second worker I’ve done that with near Murcia. (19-10)

The loss of gems really hit our cities. The cash flow also took a bit hit.
I ship bastion fortifications to Mongolia for gems, $20 and $13/T. With the gems back, I only have 2 cities with issues.
I ship Nubia Napoleonic age for $118 and $101/T. That lets me get back to 50% with a small deficit.
Canada, Australia and India don’t have much cash per turn.

I do another round of short rushing units.

The GPT to keep getting Saltpeter from Britain jumps from $215/T to $569/T.
30% science is now negative. The GPT from other civs is pathetically low, so I don’t make any more trades.

I kill Maghreb: 1 musket, 1 musketeer, 1 adventurer , 1 grenadier, 1 cannon, and 1 warrior. I lost 1 infantry. (25-11)
(IT) I killed Maghreb: 1 ship, and 2 infantry. (28-11)
I lost 1 cannon and 1 ship. (28-13)

1806 AD (6)
Capital Eastern Cannon arrives. Want to guess what it will rush? The leader arrives in Mekka and will wait for the town clock to finish in 1 turn.

The assault on Theveste begins. I kill 1 rifle and 3 infantry. I lost 1 cavalry. (32-14)
I gained $6,289 and a supply shipment.

I ship silver to Lowlands for $272.
I give Britain incense and $6936 gold for industrialization. I must thank Carthage for all the gold that is letting us catch up on tech.
6 civilizations have railroad, but we can’t afford it yet.

I switch 2 military cities to factories. One military city switches to dockyards due to the loss of the Spanish wonder. The rest of them continue to short rush cavalry.

I build an embassy with the Dutch. The city is shield weak, with Crystal Palace due in 14 turns.
I investigate Frankfurt. The city is okay for shields, with Crystal Palace due in 10 turns.
I investigate Cuzco. The city is a shield monster with Crystal Palace due in 3 turns.
There is no chance for the free techs from it. With a rushed factory I could probably get in less than 10 turns, but I can’t compete with Cuzco.

I kill Maghreb: 1 adventurer, 2 infantry and 1 grenadier. I lost 1 cavalry. (36-15)
I lost: 1 artillery piece and 2 pirates. (36-16)

[End of session 1]
(IT) A unit gets auto-booted by Turkey.
I caught Maghreb trying to plant a spy.
Someone lost an enslaver trying to attack our explorer. (37-16)

1808 AD (7)
The leader rushes capitol in Mekka.

The assault on Leptis Magna begins. I kill 2 infantry. (39-16)
I gain $4,478 and 1 worker. It gets an instant culture bomb.

The assault on Marrakesh begins. I kill 1 rifle and 2 infantry. (42-16)
I gain $4,578.

Cavalry hates adventurers arrived. Nampa gets rushed dockyards to start getting value from the ocean again. That is its main source of shields.

I give Britain $9042 and we have rails. Operation Maghreb is doing exactly what I was hoping for. They are doing wonders to finance us catching up in tech.
I pass on another round of rushing. At this point getting explosives for double speed workers and steamrollers is more important.

I kill Maghreb: 1 adventurer. (43-16)
(IT) I have no idea what happened. AI ships attacked Thevest, and killed our infantry. (43-17)
Germany completes the Alamo.

1810 AD (8)
The assault on Al Jadida begins. I kill 2 infantry. I lost 1 cavalry. (45-18)
I gain $5,121 and 3 workers.

I’ve been working on the railroad.

It leaves us low on cash, but I give Britain $7,983 for explosives. I really want rails in place. I didn’t even finish the line infantry upgrade, and now rifles are available. :crazyeye: :crazyeye: :crazyeye:

I give Egypt economics for $82 and $44/T.
The rest of the civs offer so little cash that it isn’t worth the bother.

I’m starting upgrade to better units and heal to make the push into Maghreb core. I have a lot of units that need at least 2 to 3 turns to make the new front.

I gained an artist and 1 monk.

I kill Maghreb: 1 musket, 1 infantry, 1 heavy artillery piece and 1 crossbow. I lost 1 artillery piece. (49-18)
(IT) Britain trips a GA.
Inca completes Crystal Palace.
I lost: 1 exploring ship and 1 cavalry to a lawyer (probably Carthage). (49-20)

1812 AD (9)
I kill that annoying lawyer, and gain another artist. (50-20)

I see my first completed rail tile.

The stack of attack cavalry is building nicely. I’m still waiting on the defensive units. Multiple just upgraded in Mekka.
(IT) The Dutch establish an embassy with us.

1814 AD (10)
I have my second completed rail tile.

I give the Dutch iron for $2,028. That really improves our current balance of $620. I notice there face changed, so they have entered the next age.
I give Scandinavia Napoleonic Age for $92 and $56/T. Somebody finally had decent GPT to offer.
I give Australia naval power for $75 and $37/T.
I give Persia Napoleonic Age for $40 and $43/T.
I give India absolutism for $16 and $55/T.
I ship Poland free artistry for $3 and $78/T.
All of a sudden multiple civs have enough GPT to make it worth the bother. I wasn’t giving up tech for the pathetic < $20/GPT they were offering for a while.
With this GPT, and the Dutch money I can get science back to 30%.

You can see the big block of lands lost by Maghreb. Next up is the attack on the core.

Summary:
Keep starving Maghreb cities. They have settlers out, so we most likely won’t be able to completely eliminate them. We have to plan for peace after taking out there core. I hope to get there nearest city a large distance from Carthage.
I would like to see if it is possible for us to drop a friendly city close to Carthage. We can’t afford to keep paying Britain’s extortion rates for saltpeter.

Our cities in former Spain are really weak for defense. Keep shuttling units to Iron Horse saloon for upgrades, and then back to former Spanish cities.

ROSTER:

LKendter

Restrictions:
You must choose governments: Republic and Democracy. To answer JJ question: Yes, we can delay democracy a few turns if needed due to GA or critical wonder race.

Great Progress

Glad you just did all that trading. :goodjob: I rarely think I do a good job at trading, so you saved me from trades for a few turns at least.

I got it. Since it is 1814, and not at war with the USA, I guess I will take a little trip to Oran not New Orleans. :mischief:
