It is good that we have a chance to extend our peaceful benevolence to the misguided populace of Canada. :hammer:

Instead of starving captured towns, maybe we should raze the larger ones if they do not have any "working wonders". We could then settle on the old town spot or nearby in a more beneficial position.

Peace treaty with Turkey ends in 6 turns. There are 3 Canadian cities reachable via Aydin (Turkish city). Do we declare war on Turks, capture/raze Aydin and rail towards the Canadian towns?
While at war with Turkey, we could build a town to acquire Turkish Silk. Maybe even conquer all of Turkey.
 
Ha! I was getting bored about halfway through my turnset, so I considered a little war with Canada. I held off to avoid WW during the GA.

Lots of gold...did you sell techs to the Lowlands? I was pretty spendy during my turnset, short-rushing to make sure buildings would complete during the GA. I also tried to get Hospitals up and running in a bunch of our smaller cities. Post-GA, we need lots of citizens to keep research going.

Edit: Based on the situation at the end of my turnset, I'd say we can blitz Turkey pretty easily. ~70 Hotchkisses plus a dozen Early Tanks -- a few tactical cities, culture-bomb Antalya, and I think we could plausibly take their whole empire in one turn. Maybe three turns if Istanbul holds (to allow for healing time).

I switch Casablanca to Great Refinery. That city is good enough to really benefit from an extra 50% shield bonus

I give the Dutch electricity for $20,588.
I give Italy electricity for $7,890 and $59/T.
I have no idea how Maghreb has so much cash. I give electricity for $530 and $264/T.
I give Greece obsolete Napoleonic Age for $20 and $77/T.
I don’t find any other trades worth it.

I dial up Canada, and demand the remove there troops. As suspected, they declare war.
I am going to hold off most attacks until they cross our borders. I want to limit WW.

(IT) Canada changes direction with a lot of their troops. I am glad more cross our borders.
We lost our supply of elephants. I have no idea why we were even importing them.

I was not originally planning to enter Canadian territory during my set. However, with most of the Canadian troops going the wrong way, a large stack of Hotchkiss cross the borders.
I kill Canada: 3 buckets, 3 pikes, 5 crossbows and 4 medieval catapults. (94-7)
I lost 1 early tank, 1 Hotchkiss and 1 partisan. (94-10)
Way Overdue Partisan arrives. Marrakesh gets a rushed factory.
I gained 1 partisan.
(IT) MPP madness continues with the Mongols offering one.
I kill Canada: 1 crossbow. (95-10)
Turkey has started building the unique wonder.
A war with Maghreb has begun due to the MPP.


1883 AD] (10)
Ugg, we now have some minor WW. This turn, Madrid is the only city hit.

The assault on Ottawa begins. I kill 3 pikes. (98-10)
I gain nothing, but some ships do blow up in port.

After some work on the railroad, an artist culture bombs Ottawa.

I fail to plant a spy in Canada. I really want their map.
There isn’t much coming over our borders next turn. I send stacks toward 3 more Canadian cities. I’ve left a reserve of elites to pound the next stack. The horrid luck on leaders should break shortly.

I kill Canada: 2 pikes. (100-10)
I lost: 1 commerce raider. (100-11)
 
Summary:
Please limit the use of combat settlers. Pop is really important to get maximum scientists for a tech lead. Some newly built planes really need to get to the Canadian core to start exploring. There are several cities in the fog. The balloon in Barcelona needs to more forward next turn into a freshly captured city. I’ve set Joe up to grab 3 more cities next turn.

I am thinking of signing a ROP with South America to get those last 3 cities of Canada. I want to wipe the core out first, as almost no troops are down there.

I got it. Without having opened the game, my rough plan is:

IThree (3) Canadian cities reachable via Aydin (Turkish city). When our peace treaty ends, I am going to declare war on Turks, capture/raze Aydin and rail towards the Canadian towns.
While at war with Turkey, I intend to build a town to acquire Turkish Silk.

If Annaba is not the only Maghreb city, I am going to added it to our hegemony.

I do not know what the research situation is like, but Hover Dam would be nice to have.

I was thinking about trying to steal maps from backward counties on the other continent.

Does anyone know if you can steal tech that cannot be traded?

That tech still needs to be researched. There isn't a lot of flexibility on the tech tree to get there faster.

IIRC, yes. The challenge is to know that it is available. Check the tree, IIRC there isn't much for us to steal.

Maybe it would be worthwhile to have Flintlock turn off the steals plan function for the AI. They already know the humans plan as they know the disposition of all the units. It just waste their cash.
 
For combat settlers, what do you think about setting up 1-2 cities as Settler farms? Al Jadida is locked at size 10 (but it's coastal, so we probably want to rush the Dockyard and immediately build the 'duct)

Fès might be a better option. It's size 7, fairly commerce-poor and shield-rich (plains), so a few Worker turns could set it up for 2-turn growth from size 9-10 with enough shields for Settler builds.
 
Early Thanksgiving Appetizers
I was able to plant a Spy in Canada and steal their plans.
The plans showed a Settler being escorted by Medieval Infantry just north of the Canadian town of Regina.

So I declared war on the Turks and captured their town of Aydin and then the Canadian towns of Thunder Bay and Regina. This was followed out Tank capturing the settler. Likely stopping the houseboat bug.

In between turns the Turks started to mount an offense to retake Aydin. They had 3 Sod with 50+ troops in them form up near Aydin.

Elephantine was correct. :thumbsup: My biggest problem was being able to build rails to their cities.:D

Nice news on Turkey. With the Turkey blitz I suspect we got at least 3 towns in mainland Canada, since I had the big stacks down there.

With getting the Canadian plans, did we also get the a map? It would be nice to know more of the world. I suspect Canada doesn't have long to live.

Now the big question is will these to civs be enough to ensure a space win? Thoughts?

Next up is at least 1 of the visible Maghreb cities.


We are the tech leader, we should remain so until the end of this era. No one knows Dreadnoughts and we are the only one with Subs. I am not trading Submarines. I want us to be the first to learn Interwar Period and build Hover Dam in Ellipi.


We should finish this era as tech leader and do not need to know every tech in the next era to complete the Mars Mission.

I suspect we will be attacked by one of our neighbors (Germany, Inca, Mongol) before the end of this era.
