Handoff notes and the save:

Turkey is on the run, but they have two cities that will be awkward to get to -- one is south of the big desert, far from any roads, and the other is in the far south, on the opposite side of some British holdings.

Spain is still kicking, but I'm hoping we can eliminate them with the Light Cruiser coming down the western coast from Old Israel.

We're desperately short of Infantry. It might be worth another draft round in our biggest cities to help cover some of those bases.

For the air force, once Spain is properly gone, we can upgrade the Zeppelins -- there are multiple Spanish cities with Airports. I've been avoiding rebasing there in case of flips.

We do have trades running for 3 more turns with Brazil and Scandinavia. That's just about the perfect amount of time to finish off Turkey -- and maybe snap up the Maghreb cities in the far NW? Egypt's mainland cities are kind of tempting, too...

I haven't checked for trades otherwise; we're likely going to run into multiple MPPs as soon as we land in Japan.

We have 19 Steamers, most in Da Nang, and 3 more being built each turn. The new city of Pergamon can start building them, too, once it's grown a couple more times. Irtjet can also switch to ships once it finishes that Railyard.

Mandalay should give one of its coastal tiles back to Phnom Penh once we're happy with our Cruiser force. It can build 1-turn Vickers without that tile.

I did struggle a lot with Worker turns. It might be worth peeling off a Steamroller in some of the cities currently building Tanks or Vickers before going back to military.

Last minute edit: I made a list of cities to improve with Leader rushes after spending way too much time scrolling for a city that wasn't halfway through a Railyard or something!

An Early HeavyTank autoproduces. At 12.5.2, it's strictly worse than our Vickers Mark E tanks at 12.5.3
No, in combat against a light Vickers Mark E tank the Early Heavy Tank is stronger, as it has an additional hitpoint (all heavy tanks in CCM have an additional hitpoint compared to normal tanks of their time).

There is a lot of action Greece did with their in reality 4 Vickers Mark E tanks in this game. :D

Wow, You kicked some butt. Compared to the end of my turn, you almost doubled the our population 11% to 21% and land area went up by 70 percent 13% to 22%.

Also, it looks like Maghreb has not yet learned to guard its secrets. :goodjob:

Glad to see you did not convert the Enslavers into Partisans. I think the Enslavers are more valuable than Partisans. Enslavers can capture workers/Steamrollers (or attempt to) and not "waste" a real fighting unit.

If Mandalay gives a coastal tile to Phnom Penh, it should take back its Mountain from Hanoi and build 1-trun Tanks not Vickers. also it should take back its grassloand so it doesn't starve.

I would not stop Tank production (besides the cities producing Tanks/Vickers do not have population to waste) I would switch cities like Sparta, Hanoi, Saigon and Angkpr to build Steamrollers.
Some of the cities that are producing 50+ shields should build Adventurers to man our undefended cities.

How long till victory? 50 turns?
We should stop trading with everybody so we are free to attack anyone.
Maybe we should give up on the idea of trying to self research and concentrate on raising cash. We should be building Markets, Banks and Stock Echanges plus buildings that reduce corruption.

No, in combat against a light Vickers Mark E tank the Early Heavy Tank is stronger, as it has an additional hitpoint (all heavy tanks in CCM have an additional hitpoint compared to normal tanks of their time).
I agree with Elephantium. The extra movement point combined with the ability to blitz is worth more than 1 extra hit point.
Also, I think that the AT Gun "upgrade" for Horse Artillery is not as effective as Horse Artillery, owing to not having all of the abilities Horse Artillery does.

Ah! That's a good point about the extra hit point @Civinator -- I was too focused on the movement point difference (but still, the extra movement point is more valuable in our games)

As for population to spare @Jersey Joe --
Pharsalos and Delphi are size 23. Rangoon and Byzantium are size 22. They could handle it. Personally, I'd rather miss a turn of Vickers production than Infantry production, based on just how thinly stretched our lines were!

But, building Adventurers to help guard cities is interesting, except that most of those cities are currently building Infantry or Steamers (Vientiane, Mycenae, Hanoi, Da Nang, Sparta, Saigon, Phnom Penh, Delhi).

Maybe set up some 2-turn Adventurer camps in cities like Fort Gator, Ephesus, Provadia, Wawat, Salamanca, Zatju, and Huamanga?

Either way, it's a moving target. A lot of these cities grew drastically during my turnset. It's hard to balance between Vickers (and Greebley gets to play with the new Tanks!), Infantry, Steamrollers, and infra buildings.

I do strongly agree about stopping any further trades -- or if we do make some trades, prioritize trading partners that are north of Arabia. I'm kind of assuming that we'll start by go after Japan, then Aztecs, then Britain when we attack the other continent.

Edit: Agreed on the AT gun not seeming "good enough" after Horse Artillery. I absolutely adore the standard Artillery unit, though!

Oh, one other thing I want to comment about. The Vickers initially made the Early Armored Car seem pointless because of the 3-move and blitz attack -- it brought some cities into reach that would otherwise have been 2-turn campaigns (or requiring two combat settlers).

OTOH, I could usually get the Armored Cars in range of enemy cities, and for those, a combined arms approach was really nice. I loved getting the "scouting reports" from an initial attack with the Armored Car (later Harley Scout) before moving in to pound the defenses with my Vickers divisions.

Sidenote, what do you all think is the right organization unit for Civ units? Maybe Corps instead?

That was an insane conquest turn. I understand why it took so long.

The 2 major concerns I have with using our "tank" factories to build Steamrollers are :
  1. We do not have many tanks. If we ship 5 steamers full of Tanks to Japan that will be most of our tanks leaving a few left to defend our country.
  2. The "tank" factories are at max population and will take many turns to regrow that 1 population point. Most of the cities I mentioned are at 20+ population and still growing.
  3. Minor point. Except for Byzantium, it is 2 turns of production skipped (unless we are rushing Steamrollers).
I'm kind of assuming that we'll start by go after Japan, then Aztecs, then Britain when we attack the other continent.
They are who I assumed would be next too. In addition, isn't Japan right next to Maghreb? I think we could get to Russian without attacking Britain.

Sidenote, what do you all think is the right organization unit for Civ units? Maybe Corps instead?
How many troops do you think are represented by a single Infantry icon or a tank icon?
I always thought of a single Infantry Icon as being no smaller than a Battalion (1000 troops). As we get into the 20th century it might be better to think of a WWI Infantry or later as representing a small Brigade (2-5 battalions)
Given that battalions are most likely to only be at full strength during peace time and how the size of armies has grown triughout history, a single unit representing a Brigade in the late 1800's onwards seems about the right size.
The above is based on the orginization of the US Army from the U.S. Dept of Defense web site.
For larger groups: a Division = 2-4 Brigades; a Corps = 2-5 Divisions; a Field Army = 4+ Divisions also these larger groups usually contain a mix or infantry, tanks and artillery

The 2 major concerns I have with using our "tank" factories to build Steamrollers are :
  1. We do not have many tanks. If we ship 5 steamers full of Tanks to Japan that will be most of our tanks leaving a few left to defend our country.

Yeah, fair points. Based on my turnset, I was feeling the squeeze for Infantry more than for Vickers. I'm willing to strip internal cities of their garrisons in order to cover combat rails, but I don't like it. I don't think we'll need a large stack of Vickers for defense when the expeditionary force lands, though -- Egypt is no threat, and while the British, Maghreb, Australians, and Italians each have a city or three, I think we can contain them with what we can build even if we embarked every attack unit we have immediately.

Another 20 turns of development will make a big difference in terms of Infantry (and Tank) production, but I'd rather push on with what we have than pause to let city development catch up.

They are who I assumed would be next too. In addition, isn't Japan right next to Maghreb? I think we could get to Russian without attacking Britain.

Hmm, I think you're right about Russia. Japan is next to Aztecs and Britain, Russia is N of Britain and E of Aztecs. Maghreb are E of Russia, and Lowlands are north/NE of Russia.

Based on the Army unit being in Civ...one of those might be a Field Army, so built units might be Divisions in the mid or late game. OTOH, Civ units don't represent combined arms, so one unit could arguably go down as far as the Company level.

Stealing tech is reaching an end. I failed twice and then got a "They have nothing to steal" message from Britain (so 20k gone with no result). We lost our Magreb spy and won't be able to get it back for a while, so I am planning on seeing if researching ourselves makes sense.

I'm not sure how, but CivAssist could tell when the Maghreb had new tech to steal during my set.

I'd expect self-research to be in the 15 turn range, give or take.

Losing the Maghreb spy was bound to happen.
Based on CivAssit, as of 1888ad Britian was probably studying Great War Experience, Mayghreb was the leader in tech research with the Poles close behind. It was taking 5 turns for the Maghreb to learn a tech. The Poles would learn the new tech 1 or 2 turns after the Maghreb. Completeing the top 4 AI tech leaders are the Lowlands and the Arabs both of whom are probably studying Totalitarianism.
