LK172, Civ=France, CCM3, just win

I'm watching a ton of troops moving between every turn. My warmongering has gone a little crazy.
If you press the Shift key, all types of animations (attack, movement etc.) will be accelerated as long as you are pressing it down, working for both the human player and the AI opponents.

Another method for not seeing tons of AI units moving, could be to disable in the game preferences the option "Show enemy moves" or to speed up these moves generally by disabling the options "Animate enemy moves" and "Animate friend moves".

The final wonder we will build.

Oh, there is such a nice Hoover Dam GW only a few techs away. :D

Despite losing combat settlers the game should be over, or just about over, by then.

Caps lock means you don't have to hold shift. everything is fast until you click it again

Which brings me to my old CCM nemesis: StickyKeys! I don't remember it activating recently, but I used to get the "do you want to turn on sticky keys?" popup

I have never seen such a popup during all my CCM games. :dunno:

Funny, I used to see it a lot. Checking today, pressing shift 5 times in a row brings up the prompt...which makes sense for long IBTs where I'd hold shift to get through a ton of ship moves, then let it go while a battle animated, then press it again for the next set of ships...wish I'd known about the caps lock trick back then!

I should be done today or tomorrow. I already have 9 pages of reports written up.
The game is effectively over once we get factories in the core and have a thin rail-net up. The terrible delay in combat settlers only drags out the inevitable. I refuse to twiddle my thumbs for 50+ turns waiting for those.
I will also be including how I think the best way to counter this change is. Wiping out one civ at a time no longer works. :(

I'll need a skip until Nov 11. I'm going on vacation and will be civ-less 'til then.

Unless you object, I'll make that a swap. I suspect Greebley will need that long to get a set in.

This is a confusing turn to take over with all the unmoved workers. Too many workers are on unrailed tiles, so I simply work the tile they are on. Normally this late I pull all workers into a stack, then figure out what to do.

We already have 16 armies. I’ll see if I can up that count during my sent.

I plant a spy in Germany. I failed to plant one in Carthage. I want to have a sense of their troop strength.
I wonder if Nubia is a houseboat civ. I don’t have the option to plant a spy.

I start the city review. I can’t wait until forests are planted. The are a lot of food heavy, shield light, cities. I can tell it is the late game, as the city review takes a lot of time. The cash is burning a whole it my pocket. I rush a bunch of stuff including more steamrollers. I cancelled a lot of buildings. We are to the point of mainly mindless troop building except for hospitals, and a few harbors/ports to increase our pop count.
(IT) Mongolia loses an armored car and an infantry. (2-0)
We lost 1 adventurer. (2-1)

Japan declares war on us.

A large stack of Mongolia units shows up coming from the Portuguese border.

Jul 1900 AD (1)
Fascism gets us closer to settlers. I give Greece early tanks and $345 to get it.
I clear out a lot of the pocket change from other civs have for our world map.

It took several hours for just this little bit. It is definitely the marathon wrap-up phase.
[End of session 1]

I plant a spy in Japan and Carthage.

I go leader fishing against the Mongolian stack near Portugal. I gained 1 artist during the attack.

French Dragoon kill Japan and creates the 17th army.
Charron of Doom arrives and creates the 18th army.
Darkhan gets culture bombed.

The assault on Karakorum begins. I kill 9 infantries. I lost 5 Renault. (11-6)
I capture Buddhist Art.

Temp is founded burning our only settler for pushing to the next Mongolian cities.

The assault on Almalik begins. I kill 3 infantries. (14-6)
I captured 1 worker.

The assault on Daidu begins. I kill 4 infantries, 1 cannon 1 adventurer. (20-6)
I get a laugh when a ship shows as the top defender. It must be down to trivial units.
I captured 1 worker and Neuschwanstein. I never argue with another happy face.

The assault on Choibalsan begins. I kill 2 infantries. (22-6)
I redlined a 100% healthy Charron army in a single attack.

That failed to kill Mongolia. I spot a settler with an escort in their territory. (23-6)
I killed it and Mongolia has left the game.

I culture bomb Ulaan.
The assault on Yokohama begins. I kill 2 rifles. I lost 1 Renault. (25-7)
I captured $9.
This tripped a MPP causing Numbia to declare war. :rotfl:

After searching for a bit, I finally found the other isolated Japanese city.
The assault on Shimonoseki begins. I kill 2 infantries. (27-7)
I captured 1 worker. I snagged another worker right next to the city.

I noticed Japan managed to build 2 railroad tiles next to that city despite NO steamrollers. This no railroads for workers may be exclusive to the human player.

It is time to really think differently. I want more armies and artists to use against the big players. I need more fishing opportunities. Poland and Portugal border us. They are both totally backwards needing dark ages. I declare war on both hoping they will send junk to leader / lawyer fish with.

The assault on Cuzco (Japan) begins. I kill 3 infantries. I lost 1 Renault. (30-8)
I captured $5, Christianization and 2 workers.

[End of session 2]

The assault on Machu Picchu (Japan) begins. I kill 4 infantries. (34-8)

(IT) I kill Carthage: 1 armored car. (78-9)
I lost 3 infantries. (78-12)

Jan 1901 AD (2)
In find a stack of 3 Nubian ships. I hope the missing settler is on them.

The assault on Nara begins. I kill 3 infantry and 1 adventurer. I lost 1 Renault. (82-13)
I captured $23.

The assault on Corihuayrachina (Japan) begins. I kill 3 infantry and 2 rifle. I destroyed ships in port. (87-13)
I captured $24.
[End of session 3]

I send some stacks over the border covered by multiple infantries. Lack of combat settlers is really slowing us down.

I kill Nubia: 1 ship. (88-13)
I kill Carthage: 1 Hotchkiss and 2 adventurers. (91-13)
I kill Japan: 5 infantries, 3 heavy artilleries, 1 rifle, 2 adventurer, 3 crossbows and 2 field artillery. (107-13)
I lost: 2 Renault. (107-15)
I gained 1 artist and 4 workers.
(IT) Poland is finally sending stacks of junk toward us. Leader fishing should arrive soon.
Germany sends a bunch of stuff over the borders by City of Gold. First time they have shown up.
Carthage lost 1 infantry, and 1 armored car. (109-15)
We lost 1 infantry. (109-16)
Japan got 3 steamrollers of ours. A fracking partisan had a pathway I didn’t see.
The next research project is radio. It is a diversion from getting settlers. However, I really want the wonder that adds corruption reducing buildings in every city.
NOTE: Looking back, I wish I had turned off research at this point.

Jul 1901 AD (3)
Our reconnaissance zeppelins show Portuguese stuff also inching our way.
I sell electric grids to Greece for $14,965 and $302/T. I also got some scraps of cash for our map.

The assault on Nagoya begins. I kill 3 infantries, 1 cannon and 1 rifle. I lost 2 Renault. (114-18)
I captured $6.

I just realized partisans got nerfed hard in CCM3. They are now 441, not 771.

The assault on Al Jadida (Carthage) begins. I kill 3 infantries and 1 Whippet. (118-18)
I instantly thought of Devo when I saw that name.
I captured $1.

I get to leader fish versus Germany. Once I run out of elites, I’ll use Charon. Those are not too useful versus Japan and Carthage. I’m incredibly happy every time I see a promoted to elite message.

Anti-German Charron arrives to form the 19th army.

I get the six workers back from Japan killing our steamrollers.

Nagoya got a culture bomb.
The assault on Izumo begins. I kill 2 infantries. (121-18)
I captured $6.

The assault on Osaka begins. I kill 3 infantries.
I captured $7, 4 workers and the very obsolete Great Lighthouse.
[End of session 4]

Without combat settlers there is no straightforward way to Osaka. I simply send a stack of tanks covered by an army.

The assault on Oran begins. I kill 3 infantries. (124-18)
I captured $1.

The assault on Tangier begins. I kill 2 infantries. (126-18)

Legion Stranger arrives and forms the 20th army.

Oran gets a culture bomb.

I gained 6 workers from killing Carthage steamrollers.

The assault on Carthage begins. I kill 5 infantries. I lost 2 Renault. (131-20)
I captured $2.

In all the Civ3 games I play, I think this is a first. Our tank army attacked the Carthage infantry army. (132-20)

The very painful lack of combat settlers requires new thinking. The main wars against Japan and Carthage are in wrap-up stage. It will still take several turns, but they are both spent.
I demand the Dutch removes troops from inside our borders. They declared war. I can use stray troops to weaken their initial rush while I finish off Japan and Carthage.

I draft a bunch of infantries to put a conscript as the second defender in our coastal cities. This gives more vet infantry to guard newly captured cities.

I kill Nubia: 1 ship. (133-20)
I kill Japan: 1 partisan, 1 adventurer and 2 infantries. (137-20)
I kill Germany: 7 Hussars, 6 chariots, 2 catapults, 1 bucket, 2 mounted crusader, 4 artillery pieces and 13 elephants. (172-20)

I kill Dutch: 8 rifles, 2 MDI and 1 musket. (192-20)
I lost 3 Charon. (192-23)
I gained 2 workers.
(IT) Greece demands and get gold. I’m not letting them avoid the nice GPT coming our way.
I kill Japan: 1 ship. (193-20)
I kill Germany: 1 Hussar. (194-20)
I lost 3 infantry and 1 Charon. (194-24)

Two units along border towns paid off. The Dutch had an army in the stray town behind our lines. I would have lost the city if it had just 1 defender.

For some reason Germany, Poland and Portugal shift their troops inside borders, instead of toward us. :( :( :( :(

Jan 1902 AD (4)
I hit the last of the Nubian ships I found. Nubia has left the game.

I plant a spy in the Dutch.
I noticed we have no embassy with Egypt. I fixed that situation.
[End of session 5]

The assault on Kyoto begins. I kill 6 infantries and 1 invisible unit. I lost 3 Renault. (200-27)

The assault on Tokyo begins. I kill 3 infantries. I lost 2 Renault. (206-30)
I destroyed ships in port.

The assault on Satsuma begins. I kill 3 infantries. I lost 1 Renault. (209-31)
I captured a supply shipment. The city gets a culture bomb.

Japan still has a settler somewhere. I steal military plans. It is right next to the coast, but we lack units to hit it in that area.

The assault on Edo begins. I kill 3 infantries. I lost 2 Renault. (212-33)
I destroyed ships in port.

The assault on Arnhem (Dutch) begins. I kill 2 infantries. I lost 2 Renault. (214-35)
I captured 1 worker.

Jul 1902 AD (5)
Polish Killing Charron arrives. The 22nd army was formed.
Double Dutch Renault FT 17 arrives. The 23rd army was formed.
[End of session 6]

I started rushing steamrollers in the cities marked starve. It gets rid of the population faster. The ultimate would be to eliminate the civs, but hunting settlers on ships, along with those island cities, will take time.

The assault on Fes (Carthage) begins. I kill 2 infantries. (262-36)

The assault on Leptis Manga (Carthage) begins. I kill 2 infantries. (264-36)

At this point I look at the number of cities Carthage has left. 2 are past Korea, 1 is at the far edge of the land mass, and there is one more mystery city. I won’t be able to take out Carthage.
The Dutch cities are very ugly. A good chunk of the cities are behind mountains, hills, and forest. There is one clear pathway via Utrecht. The Dutch are delayed until the initial troop rush is done.
I planted a spy with Persia. I started another war with Persia. There are 11 known cities that are all easy to get to.
I picked up some stray cash from our updated map.

I kill Germany: 1 rifle. (265-36)
I kill Carthage: 2 rifles, 1 adventurer and 1 infantry. (269-36)
I kill Poland: 3 elephants, 1 chariot and 1 Cataphract. (274-36)
I kill Dutch: 5 infantry, 2 grenadier, 2 rifles, 4 adventurers, 4 artillery pieces and 8 dragoons. (299-36)
I kill: Japan: 1 infantry. (300-36)
I lost 1 Renault and 2 Charron. (300-39)

It takes ages for all the Dutch units to move.
I watch Japan land some troops.

I kill Dutch: 1 adventurer. (301-39)
I kill Spain: 1 ship. (302-39)
I kill Carthage: 1 adventurer. (303-39)
I lost: 1 ship, 3 Renault and 3 steamrollers. (303-46).
Those Carthage adventurers are getting on my nerves.

I suffered from my first flip of the round. Starve Corih flips back to Japan.

Jan 1903 AD (6)
Dragoon Spears Poland arrives. The 24th army is formed.
Charron Rides Over German arrives. The 25th army is formed
Renault Gets Some Satisfaction arrives. The 26th army is formed.
Back to Back Charron arrives. The 27th army is formed.
Tanks for all the Leaders arrives. The 28th army was formed.

[End of session 7]

The recapture of Starve Corih (Japan) begins. I kill 1 rifle. (304-46)
The Japanese stack that landed in our territory include their last settler. Japan has left the game.
I can now stop starving the Japanese cites. :)

The assault of Antioch (Persia) begins. I kill 3 rifles, 1 pike, 1 cavalry, 1 crossbow, 3 grenadier and 10 infantries. I lost 1 Renault. (323-47).
I captured $10. The number of troops I found was because I caught the offensive troops coming our way.

I place a lot of troops in former Japanese cities to suppress resistance.

I sent two stacks of Renault to set up the attack for the next turn into Persia. Each stack is covered by an army. I’m pushing into Persia first as they are much weaker for troops, and much easier to get to their cities.

I kill Poland: 1 chariot, 3 swords and 2 spears. (329-47)
I kill Germany: 9 archers, 1 sword, 2 Landsknecht and 8 spears. (349-47)

I lost: 1 infantry. (418-59)

Jul 1903 AD (7)

Dragooning these nuts arrives. The 30th army was formed.
[End of session 8]

The assault on Theveste (Carthage) begins. I kill 3 infantries. I lost 2 Renault. (437-65)

Due to the lack of combat settlers, I’m having to send tanks (with a covering army) forward to the next target. This will set us up to capture two more cities from Carthage.

Pasargadae gets a culture bomb.

The assault on Persepolis begins. I kill 3 rifles and 2 cavalries. I lost 4 Renault. (442-67)
I captured $9, 1 worker and the very obsolete Palace of Darius.

The assault on Gordium begins. I kill 3 rifles. (445-67)
I sunk ships in port. I captured $9.

The assault on Arbela begins. I kill 3 rifles. (448-67)
I captured $10.

The assault on Sardis begins. I kill 2 rifles. (450-67)
I sunk ships in port. I captured $11.

The assault on Tyre begins. I kill 3 rifles. I lost 1 Charon. (453-68)
I captured $12.

I steal Persia’s military plans. There first settler is on the same island with the Israel capitol. I won’t be able to knock them out of the game anytime soon. The second one is on a ship right next to Sardis. It isn’t worth burning a precious artist to get toward the last 3 visible cities. I’ll use the rest of armies to continue to whittle down the massive Dutch slow-moving stack.

I get scared when a Renault army redlines.

I kill Persia: 13 rifles, 2 camels, 5 steamrollers, 3 cavalries and 1 answar warrior. (477-68)
I kill Poland: 6 camels, 1 sword and 1 spear. (485-68)

The Persian rifles were a pain this round.

[End of session 9]
(IT) I lost: 1 infantry and 1 adventurer. (563-80)
