Lee, using the save you uploaded, I just updated the 2 units in Indus to Line Infantry.

I'm going to have to research if I have the wrong Flintlock version. I could not upgrade the Indus units

For investigating if your installation of C3X is capable to update units in cities without barracks, you have to look into the default.c3x_config file of C3X in the folder that holds the C3X mod in your C3C main folder. The scenario.c3x_config file for the current version of C3X is available for a separate download in post 2 of the CCM 3 thread to relieve the CCM 3 players in configurating such a file themselves, but it cannot relieve a player from installing the correct C3X version in the C3C main folder.

I am using the scenario.c3x_config,ini file. It is located in Scenarios/CCM3/scenario.c3x_config,ini

I got it working. Please upgrade our muskets still on the board. The file mentioned above was missing on my PC

Mid-set teaser:

For the Mongols, I can take Mandalgovi immediately, but it will take 2-4 turns to get rails to their border for any other cities. Looks like that will be Greebley's war!

I railed 12 tiles last turn on the Nubian continent - I estimate 8-9 tiles per turn if I have to build roads, too. The rails have a short gap from Saigon - Da Nang but then go all the way to Hyderabad. Then 1 turn each for:

* Rails to our southern border
* Rails to the Mongol border
* Rails to Kerma from the current end of the line

We can fit in the last few tiles from Saigon to Da Nang between those projects.

Nubia gone is nice.
However, the bigger news is hidden in picture. We are researching scientific method. They only way that could happen is if we got Crystal Palace. :)

OTOH, I'm surprised how low the cash is. Did we burn a ton, or to we still have to trade techs around?

Did we snag Olympic Games?
Do we have a pre-build for Arms Race?

Crystal Palace, check :D

Low cash - I've been an absolute wastrel, rushing things like there's no tomorrow. I was planning to sell Explosives on the next turn.

Olympics - not yet (but yes -- due on the next IBT, so it's locked in. IIRC AIs can't ninja it from you with 1T remaining)

Arms Race - also not yet. Battlefield Medicine would complete before we learn Scientific Method in our best shield cities (Norrkoping or Karlskrona @ 90spt).

Great progress with the Rail net!

I think we should trade with the Maghreb and after the Mongols attack Italy.

Do we follow this tech path after getting Scientific Method? Improved Steam Engines-> Electric Grid -> The Corporation -> Nationalism -> Communism? Hopefully we can trade for Nationalism. Atomic Theory doesn't offer any incentive to learn it.

On a related note - what about scientific AI civs? I'm a fan of giving them all the techs to hit the IA, then buying their freebie to accelerate our tech pace.

Maghreb and Italy's per-turn deals both run out at the same time. Italy does have a nice list of Wonders we could benefit from (e.g. Holy City).

I'd really like to go after Korea and/or the Dutch, but we don't have any forces in place to do that. I think I'll start moving some shipping into that area.

With how much of pain all the shipping is I'd rather complete the current land mass. There are still several civs to take out there.

I hope we have a lot more shipping getting near home. During my set I was moving everything possible toward the current main shipping land.

Ironic, we currently have way too much shipping by the main route. We only need 1 ship maybe every other turn. I haven't been building a ton of units on the home continent or Old Babylon.

What is left to build at home? After factories, I thought those cities were pretty much done.

Personally, I would prefer to maintain a tech lead and leave the AI civs backward. I like the idea of our armored cars going up against their late pikes or musketeers rather than fighting riflemen or WWI infantry. Once one of those civs is only 2 or 3 techs away from the Industrial Age, then maybe give them techs, but only if we are in a position to attack them.

Stockholm is still building Steamrollers. Uppsala is about to finish a Factory. Norrkoping is building Olympics. Gavle and Helsingborg are still working on infra. Oh -- that's 6 cities building troops, 4-5 per turn on average. Plus another 1-2 per turn from the South African/Arabian island. That's roughly 1 ship per turn.

I did add some Police Station builds here and there, reducing troop count. So far in my turnset, it seems like I need 1 ship every other turn, maybe closing in on one per turn -- but I have 11 Paddle Steamers (some upgraded to Steamers already) in or near Gefions Spices.

@Jersey Joe - sci civs are:

Austria-Hungary (near Turkey, D3)
China (S of Egypt, bad start, D8)
Israel (island with Greeks, A2-B3)
Russia (near Incas & Turkey, C3)
USA (bad start, E9)

I don't think we'll fight USA in this game. China is iffy. Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Israel all kind of depend on which direction we want to go after we take out Italy, Egypt, Mongols, and Carthage.

I'll hold off on any "uplift" trading for the moment.

USA is not Scientific they are Expansionist and Industrial.

I would say we should go after another large land mass, like the one with the Inca's, and maybe as a mercy killing, (only because it is so close) put Spain out of its missery.

Strange, the Civilopedia says they're Scientific. @Civinator - can you chime in?

Funny you should say that...

I hope we grabbed some cash for tech before this happened.

The US are expansionist, religious and industrious. This is also shown when selecting a civ at the start of the game. The civilopedia entry must be fixed here. Elephantium, thank you very much for reporting that error. :)
