Civinator, a few comments on items in the Civilopedia vs the biq file:
  1. Mercantilism correctly shows it allows Sea Trading, however it is with an icon that I overlooked it several times. I would prefer it being announce in writing as a new ability similar to the way Ocean Trading is announced.
  2. Naval Tactics says it allows Sea Trading, it does not allow Sea Trading
  3. Steam Power allows Ocean Trading, but it does not have an announcement to that effect.
Please consider that Exploration allows for ships to sail in seas and oceans and the building of Galleons. I think that it should also allow for Sea Trading to exist. Also, Mercantilism allows ships to sail in oceans, so why does it not allow for Ocean Trading?

These are exactly the settings that are changed as a consequence of this succession game in the next version of CCM. :)

Different to former succession games, I played that game myself to watch especially the AI behaviour, but also my problems when playing an archipelago map. I mostly overcome the problems of sea- and ocean trade in this game by letting survive a crippled AI capital on those islands, as in that case, if your tradenet on that island is connected to the AI tradenet, you have an airtrade connection for your resources via the AI capital to your own capital when at peace. In the version CCM 3.1 the game will have the following settings:

1. Movement for most ships is increased by two.

2. Sea Trading will come with the tech Seatrading (I hope it is also correct to write it in one word). This is the former tech Seafaring, but as there is no more place for a hint-icon in the techbox, I renamed the tech to show the new additional option. The new option will also appear in the civilopedia text of that tech.

3. Ocean trading will come with tech Mercantilism and showing the new option in the civilopedia text.

4. I am still working, if I can fix the massive graphical issues of the very nice convoy units of Wotan47 and set the transports to need no escorts, as the interturn times in the later phases of this game will become very, very, very looooong. Please read the posts in that thread: https://forums.civfanatics.com/thre...ve-longer-loading-times-between-turns.693370/

The next version of CCM is still in work, as it will also hold some items needed in other mods and scenarios based on CCM.

Ugg, reading the above makes it sound like it will even take longer to get the resources across oceans. :(

Many of the civs can be reached by sea without ever crossing an ocean. We have a sea only route to Indo-China. Though I would not use it for the invasion, because the shortest route is to cross the ocean.

We could colonize the Horses by Damaskus, build Horse Archers, ship them over to the Home Island and upgrade them.

Even with the saltpeter deal with Turkey you will need horses in the city of your home island for the upgrading of horse archers. This is why I have left the last Arabian city at that time alive in my game. In your game the last Arabian city was conquered by you and that chance is lost.

Why are you not risking some of your cheap longboats, that can cross ocean terrain (so with the risk of sinking) to discover the world, as the old Vikings would have done it ? You are playing on an archipelago map with many islands in it, so the chance is great, that with the increased speed of your ships in this game, you can enter safe waters after one or two turns in ocean terrain.

If you load the game, you will find multiple boats out exploring. How do you think I found the Inca and there nice block of cash?
Medieval explorers really rock on island maps.

We have already met 20+ civs, and we just have to get to Russia to make contact for another.

The more important question in my eyes is, why you haven´t found the other civs yet ?

I'm traveling, so I haven't been keeping up with the latest in this thread. I see that it's my turn, but I won't be able to pick up the save until tomorrow.

I definitely have time to play tomorrow evening and later this week, but I'd be happy to swap if anyone wants to jump on the save today.

I must say the archipelago map makes this a much more exciting read that the standard pangea/continent game the team typically plays. I'm enjoying following this game immensely!!! :viking::rockon::viking:

Japan beat us to Free Artistry by 5 turns. Buy it for Tobacco and 6000 gold?

If they haven't started building any of the wonders, yes.

They started Great Playhouse as soon as they learned it.

I'll buy it.

We probably won't get the wonders than. I'd save the money for rushing

GREAT SUCCESS!

Pre-turn:

Since most of the cities have rushed buildings, I MM for growth at extreme spt cost. Free Artistry now due in 10.

1580 AD:

I move some troops around and MM a bit more.

1590 AD:

Italy gives us 41 gold for our WM

Poland and India only give us 2.

Incas give us 10gpt+71 gold for Tobacco
Egypt gives us 9gpt+14 gold for Tobacco

Pirate Ship sinks Japanese Catapult ship

1600 AD:

Pirate ship sinks attacking Japanese Catapult ship

Egypt gets our WM for theirs + 4 gold
Italy gets University for their WM, Incense, Hardwood, 108gpt, and 105 gold -- all they have.
Egypt gets our WM for 1gpt+8 gold
Nubia gets our WM for 20 gold
Mongols get our WM for 4 gold
Byzantium gets our WM for theirs + 32 gold
Canada gets our WM for theirs + 11 gold
Korea gets our WM for 23 gold
Lowlands gets our WM for theirs + 13 gold
Oceania gets our WM for 18 gold
Persia gets our WM for 20 gold
Turkey gets our WM for 20 gold
Britain gets our WM for theirs + 8 gold
Germany gets our WM for 4 gold
Inca gets our WM for theirs + 34 gold
Japan gets our WM for theirs + 33 gold

IBT:

Japan and Italy sign peace

Japanese are building the Great Playhouse

1610 AD:

Japan is the only one who knows Free Artistry

We meet France, broke and backwards w/3 cities. We buy their WM for Pottery.

sg_451.jpg

Karlskrona founded N of Visby

We buy Free Artistry from Japan for WM, Tobacco, and 6031 gold. Next up is Jurisprudence.
Norrkoping starts building Great Playhouse, due in 6 at a food deficit. It seems worth the gamble -- we can fall back on the Taj Mahal if necessary.

We sell Free Artistry to Carthage for 2432 gold + WM

IBT:

Japan begins work on both Taj Mahal and Neuschwanstein
Carthage begins work on all three wonders.

China begins work on The Great Wall!

We lose our Furs

1620 AD:

We pick up another couple hundred gold trading maps all around.

IBT:

We lose Wine and Coffee

1630 AD:

We meet the Americans, also broke and backwards. We buy their WM with Pottery.

sg_452.jpg

We send the Mongols Alchemy in exchange for Wine, WM, 1 gold
We send Gunpowder to the Byzantines for Cotton, Furs, Horses, 161gpt, and 36 gold
We send Literature to Portugal for Coffee
We send Tobacco to Turkey for 7gpt and 31 gold
We pick up another 100 or so gold trading our map around.

1640 AD:

I accidentally move a new Ancient naval explorer with the stack of newly upgraded Carracks. He has some extra movement points, so I head him back towards port to finish fitting out.

1650 AD:

We meet Israel, backwards but not completely broke.
We swap WMs + Tobacco and get 47 gold.

Huh, it looks like our trade rep is busted

We send Alchemy to Korea for Silks, 10gpt, and 9 gold
We send Free Artistry + Naval Guns to the Byzantines for Medicine, WM, 3gpt, and 11 gold
We send Medicine to Japan for 7427 gold
We send Medicine to the Berbers for WM+3837 gold

Greeks start the Great Playhouse
Turks start Topkapi Palace

We lose Silver, Gems

1660 AD:

We send Construction + Tobacco to China for Gems
We send The Republic to Nubia for Silver, WM, 11gpt, and 22 gold
We send Printing Press to Persia for 222gpt + 167 gold

IBT:

sg_453.jpg

Carthage completes Neuschwanstein
Lots of AIs switch Wonder work

1670 AD:

Exploration is available to buy

We meet Russia. They have Tropical Fruit and some token gold, but they lack Alchemy and Clockworks. We sell Alchemy for the fruit, their WM, 23gpt, and 40 gold

We send WM+7779 gold to Inca for Exploration
We send Exploration to Japan for 5072 gold+WM

Handoff notes:

I didn't check for minor trades - we might pick up a bit more gold with map trading.

I did cycle through the cities and rush/short-rush builds.

We have more troops than we can transport near Damaskus. They're on the eastern coast to help rendezvous with the Carrack convoy.

I started building Carracks in Uppsala; that should soon give us the basis to send a steady stream of reinforcements to Indo-China.

I see the cash grabbing marathon continued to work. I like looking at the picture and see the cash rushaton has continued.

I can’t believe how screwed France was. 3 cities and trapped on an icicle. They did make our WM more valuable.
The good news is we continue to make contacts.
It seems like the island map has created a lot more backwards civs than normal.
What I didn’t notice in the pictures was any ships to transport between our main island and South Africa. Do we have any there?

I’m shocked we managed to get the Great Playhouse. A free theater everywhere is a nice bonus.
