LK175, South Africa, AWE

Very late set teaser. We just learned Theology and Sabi Sand is building the Great Mosque.

We are set to learn Engineering. Any one think something else might be better to study?
We have one less enemy.
Indochinese added to empire 1765.jpg

One less enemy is always a good thing.
Aztecs seem to be trivial. Turkey all but dead. India still a potential threat. Sounds like we can start working on Carthage.

Notes and Suggestions:
  • The Berbers are broke. So with out cash coming in and running deficent research, I did not upgrade all the troops. When cash get low, we could capture Kolhapur from Indian.
  • Settler just arrived on Turquoise dot.
  • The African Worker standing next to the Settler is part of the roading crew that is working building a road on the hill, He can complete the road next turn. Likewise the 3 African Workers that are on the hill next to a Mercenary are part of the crew building a road on the Sheep and they can complete the road next turn.
  • Research wise the fastest I have been able to do in this era is 5 turn research by starving a lot of people.

Beginning of set teaser. There is another civ just below former Indochina. Luckily, they are backwards.

Mid set teaser:
Hello to 1 happy face in every city.

The numbers are finally feeling decent. We have 34 cities, and our stronger enemy has 12. The bad part is most of them aren't that developed with the late conquests.

I made a few building changes such as Angkor switched from academy to admin center. Cities at over 50% corruption need to concentrate on corruption reducing buildings.

I get luxury tax to 20% with clowns in just 2 cities. I'll have those cities work on happy buildings. We really want to get the luxury tax down. That is part of why I wanted Great Mosque of Cordoba.
(IT) The only action is bombardment overload.

1775 AD (2)
I contact Israel. They were right below Indochina. I'm amazed we didn't have contact before this.

Port Elizabeth was founded.
(IT) I lost 1 knight. (0-1)

1780 AD (3)
I still haven't found an Israel city. It looks like I caught a working building a colony to the incense.

I killed Carthage: 1 elephant. (1-1)
I lost: 1 knight. (1-2)
The first troops of Israel are spotted.

1785 AD (4)
The assault on Utica begins. I kill 2 pikes. I lost 1 knight. (3-3)
I'm glad that is all that was lost being on a hill with walls.

I killed Carthage: 1 pike, 2 settlers, 1 bucket and 3 crossbows. (10-3)
(IT) The next tech isn't an obvious choice. I pick alchemy to head toward gunpowder. At this point, knowing where saltpeter is would be nice.
A lot more Israel units are on the way.

1790 AD (5)
It is nice to not have rivers slow us down.

Israel destroying knight arrives. Da Nang gets a rushed castle. That city is the current front line versus Israel.

I've found yellow borders that should be Israel. The knight army is now heading home to help with the defense. All new troops are heading toward Da Nang, but it could still be tight.

I kill Israel: 1 chariot and 4 camels. (15-3)
I lost 2 knights and 1 cataphract. (15-6)
(IT) I kill Israel: 3 camels. (18-6)
I lost 2 knights. (18-8)

1795 AD (6)
The assault on Carthage begins. I kill 4 pikes and 1 enslaver. I lost 1 camel, 1 missionary and 3 knights. (23-13)
I pillage $1. I found 1 worker inside. The obsolete Cothon is captured. The Colossus is also gained. It may give 1 or 2 settlers before going obsolete.

The assault on Algiers begins. I kill 1 pike. (24-13)
I lost: 1 chariot. (24-14)
The city holds on for now. A lot more units are now in range.

I kill Carthage: 1 crossbow. (25-14)
(IT) Carthage landed by Carthage.
The Israel troops coming our way go into the forest by Da Nang. Could they be going to a different city?

1800 AD (7)
The second assault on Algiers begins. I kill 1 pike. (25-13)
I see more gray borders that I must access over mountains.

I kill Carthage: 2 crossbows, 1 Numidian mercenary and 1 settler. (29-13)
I kill India: 1 musketeer. (30-13)
I lost 1 knight and 1 crossbow. (30-15)

1805 AD (8)
The assault on Marrakesh begins. I kill 2 pikes. (32-15)
[End of session 1]

(IT) I kill India: 2 muskets. (34-15)
I lost 1 knight and 2 pikes. (34-17)
Israel is bypassing Da Nang. The southern front is going to be more difficult.
Carthage lands another crossbow. This time by Algiers.

1810 AD (9)
The assault on Fes begins. I kill 2 pikes. I lost: 1 knight. (36-18)
I found 1 worker inside.

I'm going to hold off on attacking Ariana for the moment. I don't know how close it is to size 2. With it having iron, I don't want another civ to settle that spot.

We are painfully short of 4 turn research. I needed just 10% science rate to finish alchemy.

I kill Carthage: 1 crossbow. (37-18)
I kill Israel: 3 chariots. (40-18)
I kill India: 2 musketeers. (42-18)
I lost: 1 siege bow. (42-19)
I gained: 1 worker.
(IT) I killed Israel: 2 chariots. (44-19)
I lost 1 knight, 1 enslaver, 1 camel and 1 cataphract. (44-23)
The next research project is gunpowder. We need defense 4 units by India.
Great Zimbabwe goes obsolete. :(

Carthage flips back to Carthage despite having zero tiles sharing culture. One knight was lost in the city. (44-24)
I have no clue why Hamburg suffered a riot. It showed content the end of last turn. I hired a clown. I scroll through the cities to avoid more riots.

Israel completes Jewish world religion.

1815 AD (10)
That landing with a color I didn't recognize was the Inca. We have a new enemy. :(

The assault on Carthage begins. I killed 1 pike. I lost: 1 cataphract. (45-24)

The assault on Al Jadid begins. I killed 2 pikes.
Sadly, the city auto razed. I could barely see the city when I attacked.

I kill Inca: 1 crossbow. (46-24)
I kill Israel: 4 chariots. (50-24)
I kill Carthage: 1 crossbow. (50-25)
I gained 1 worker.

The northern front by India:

The conquests from Carthage. We make have found the last Turkish city!

Last edited:
The front by Israel. Note they workers being protected by the army. We need more roads in that area to fight Israel.
The second army is on the way to help fight / spot Israel.

India is becoming a pain. We now have musketeers (defense 5) showing up. All of attack 5 units need to head toward that front.

The cities with clowns need to concentrate on happy buildings. Eventually we need to try to further low luxuries, but for now 20% needs to be stable without any clowns.

Keep starving those enemy cities. They are paying for a good chunk of our science. In addition, we really need to reduce the flip risk.

We have a chokepoint at Aydin. Please don't go past it. The game is getting messy with too many fronts to manage. This is the perfect spot to stop. The borders north of Aydin are a different color. I see no reason to go past it.

We are still killing the initial wave from Israel. Please don't advance until it is gone.

After the red dot is settled, I like to settle yellow dot. If we get a settler from colossus please send it home. We need to get those core cities by the capital up and running.

Elephantium (up)
Greebley (on deck)
