LK22 - Always War - Iroqoius

1380AD(0) - Pre-turn. Changed Cattaraugus to Settler. More units impale themselves on our pikes around St. Regis & Ellipi.
1385AD(1) - Killed a few strayed units. Upgrading more MW to Knights. Lost 1 Pikeman at Ellipi.
1390AD(2) - Killed more strayed units. Change Ellipi to complete Pikeman in 1 turn. More enemies die at St. Regis & Ellipi. Persian Starts Leo's Workshop.
1395AD(3) - Killed more strayed units. Roman's second town appears next to Kish. Upgrade more MW to Knights. Captured another Persian Settler.
1400AD(4) - Our mini stack of Knights moving towards Kish. More units impaled on St. Regis.
1405AD(5) - Kish captured at size 1 with no lost to us. More enemy committed suicide.
1410AD(6) - Khanawake founded. Killed more stray units. More enemy committed suicide.
1415AD(7) - Caughnawaga founded. Zariqum destroyed.
1420AD(8) - More enemy committed suicide.
1425AD(9) - Killed more enemy units. Our SoD moved next to Babylon. Captured more Persian Settler. Babylonian ignore our SoD as their swordsman move past it.
1430AD(10) - The ignorant proof costly to Babylonian as their Capital is RAZED! We got 5 workers and 3 Catalpults with no lost. Ellipi is switched to Settler to take advantage of the ex-Babylon space. Our mini stack of 5 knights moved next to Uruk.

Well, Capture 1, raze 2 and founded 2 cities. Plus about 12 new workers. I have slowly push the frontline forward by putting Pikemans on Mountains next to Grand River. The AI seems to avoid attacking our units on mountains most of the time as they now moving towards the space on the left of Grand River. This can be good news for us as those space are plains. ;) I have put quite a number of Knights at Grand River for the defensive counter-attacks. I have not attempted to contact the Romans. There is also no Leader during the last 10 turns.

Here is the savegame.

Well I get home from work in 2 1/2 hours... Yes, you made it time.

Let us hope St. Regis doesn't start complaining about aggression against the mother country :(

The blows again Babylon get better - their Capital is RAZED :goodjob:

We may be able to start talking about a location for the FP soon.

The goods news - We are finnally getting the worker force we need.

(0) 1430 AD - I can't believe Rome hasn't found us yet.
Switch our 3 size 12 cities to Cathedral.
We need to start building some happy people wonders.
(I) NO AI attacks.

(1) 1435 AD - Uruk is tough. Kill 3 units, lose 2 knights.
A 1 hp pikeman is left...
(I)The AI almost kills a unit in St. Regis.

(2) 1440 AD - Kill another unit in Uruk.
A fresh unit snuck in...
(I) The AI is even less effective at St. Regis -
We get my favorite leader - Cornplanter

(3) 1445 AD - This is weird, no obvious leader target.
I form an army.
I leave it empty sitting by Salamanca.
Until we are ready to move toward Persia / India / England
Oka is formed.
We autoraze Zariqum.
FINALLY - we RAZE size 10 Uruk - another large Babylon city destroyed.
5 workers and 2 catapults.
It pays to check the slider, +10% science gets Engineering 1 turns earlier.
(I) Invention is critical, crank science to 90%, invention in 7 turns.
I don't want Persia to get Leo's.

(4) 1450 AD - I grab 2 more Babylon workers in the open.
Size 12 Larsa is RAZED.
Another 5 workers are gained.
(I) The St. Regis suicide continues.

(5) 1455 AD - A turn of troop resting, and getting captured workers / catapults to safety.
I have a record number of units trying to bypass St. Regis / GrandRiver.
Knocking down stacks cost us 2 knights.
Most Immortals are dead, got a few pikeman.
Just 2 Immortals with 2 hp are left.
My brand new roads in the mountains really help -
I wonder if a stack of workers protected by 1 pikeman is why these guys came this was.
(I) Not much action.

(6) 1460 AD - Troop resting time again.
(I) More St. Regis Massacare.
A tile by Grand River is pillaged.

(7) 1465 AD - We kill a bunch of units in Nineveh - it holds with a 2 hp swordsman.
We lose 2 knights to a demon Immortal in the jungle.
(I) Our exploring Pikeman takes out 4 swordsman before dying :goodjob:
 War Elephants spotted.

(8) 1470 AD - We lose an elite knight trying to kill a 2 hp spearman
 We raze an empty Nineveh???? +4 workers.
I have NO idea how Persia slipped a city in ex Babylon territory, but we raze Jinjan.
I would have prefered to got the settler.

(9) 1475 AD - We capture Lagash, at size 3 I think it is safe.
Chondote is formed.

(10) 1480 AD - Troop resting time again.

Summary -
The Palace in Niagra falls is worse case standby for Leo's.
To critical a wonder to risk not getting

Keep the army empty until we are ready to attack the other side
We don't need an army to attack Babylon.

Leader Goal - Leo's Workshop - cheap upgrades help alot.

Again in rest the troop mode.
Diplomatic spying reveals Babylon still have 7 cities.
I would love to get Ur - 4 workers sitting in the city.

The AI has contact with Rome / Aztec - they must be pretty weak science wise.
Where are the rest of the civs?

Science goals - Gunpowder - Longbowman and War Elphants have appeared.

Right now we are replacing big Bab cities with our own weak 1 pop cities. Would it be possible to nibble around the outer edges of their empire, picking off the weak ones, leaving a couple of big ones for last? That way we would have 1 or 2 highly productive large cities as soon as we finish off the last 2 Bab cities, ready for the FP. This would make expanding up there faster.

Right in the middle of Bab territory would be an excellent FP site. Babs had a generous supply of rich land.. much better than ours.

We dont have all that much time left, the extra pop could only help.

Ur, when we find it, could be taken last for this purpose, as it is their next oldest city. What do you think?

Ur is NOT that far from Salamanca.

The mystery city behind Ur would be a better target.

Of course, if we DO get a leader - we need Leo's first.

@Brian J - I sense you have e-mail notification when the thread changes. I only posted 3 minutes before you! ;)

Probably by boat.. the AI have been slipping boats past us all game.

 Actually no, I posted that all on my own. :crazyeye: I hadn't seen your game yet so didnt know where Ur was..

Forgot this was a large map, with a larger palace corruption influence..

I've got it. Too tired to play tonight, had a big inspection today! Passed! Should have some time now, will try and post tomorrow night. If someone wants to jump in before tomorrow night just let me know and I'll get the new save file before I play.

@Garsonga
The hugh time difference makes is confusing.
About how many hours from know do you plan to play?

I hope you can get a leader so that we can get Leo's.

We may be close to captureing Babylon cities. We want a few large cities for the fp area ;)

Korea is 14 hrs ahead of EST. That means if it is 8:00 Pm on the east coast U.S it is 10:00 AM the next day in Korea. In other words 8:00pm Friday on the east coast is 10:00am Saturday in Korea. As I am typing this message it is 9:00 am Saturday the 1st of Jun.

I'm playing now will post in a few hours.

Garsonga

P.S. Daylight savings times throws another curve in when you guys start daylight savings time it adds another Hour one way or the other that even confuses me! I have to ask when I call my family on the east coast. What time is it there

With daylight savings time thrown in, the US East Coast is 13 hours difference from Korea. I know this only because they mentioned it on the World Cup telecast this morning. So who else is getting up with me at 6:30am tomorrow morning to watch the games?

(0)1480 AD Turn down the Research slider to gain us 186g and still get Invention in 1 turn.

Goals for these turns:

Obtain GL and build Leo's
Fortify southern border with pikes, cats, and knights to seal them off
Attack Ur raze or capture depending on defenses.
Research Gunpower, build musketmen.

Here we go, this should to be interesting.

(1)1485 AD Knights and Cats take out a stack of Immortals and pikes next to Grand River we lose one Knight. Knights take out a Mini-SOD that slipped by Grand River No losses one knight injured. Moving Ellipi settler north to settle on the river to acquire Wines for our people. Moving workers south I want to build some fortifications on the mountains around Grand Rapids and try to seal off the border. We discover invention, change palace placeholder at Niagara Falls to Leo's.

(2)1490 AD Move research slider to 100% Gunpowder in 6 turns. Our Knight SOD heading to Ur is attacked by Bab swordsman, Pike defender kills two no damage. Our Knight stack kills a Bab bowman and enlist two more Bab workers. Bab sword near Ur is wiped out by our knight stack. City of Gandasetaigon founded securing wines for our people, started walls. No AI attacks on the southern border, but more troops coming.

(3) 1495 AD We love the chief day celebrated all over the kingdom. Immortals attack pikes near Grand Rapids and die. We loose 3 knights attacking Immortal/Pike stack near Grand Rapids we kill 2 Pikes and 2 Immortals. I really want to secure that mountain. If we can funnel the enemy stacks between mountains on plains we can slaughter them.

(4) 1500 AD Some India Swordsmen kill themselves on St Regis pikes. One pikeman damaged. War elephants are retreating? Whats with that? Immortal stack kill two pikemen in route to Grand River. One immortal dies in the process. Our Knight stack attacks Ur, 3 Pikes killed swordsman and bowman injuried we lose two knights. Knight stack near Ashur attack and kill a swordsman moving in position to strike Asher next turn.

(5) 1505 AD Bab swordsman attack our knight stack at Ur GL Tachmuan emerges. Our defending pikeman kills two swordsman. A defending knight kills one swordsman. Our knights destroy Persian pike, two more workers recruited. Lose two knights attacking a Immortal stack next to Grand River. Ur knight stack retreats to heal. Ashur knight stack attacks lose one knight. Darn! I attacked across a river we'll have to move that stack.

(6) 1510 AD Huge English swordsman stack attacks near Steves Silk and a defending pikeman and two defending knights are killed 4 swordsman are killed, two of our workers captured. Maybe I can get them back with a counter attack. Not going to happen lose a knight attacking English swordmen from hell two more knights injured two swordsmen die. GL is in route to Niagara Falls to complete Leo's should get there next turn.

(7) 1515 AD Not much happened, our cats damaged immortals by Grand River and Indian Swordsman by St Regis. A knight out of Sal kills one swordsman for hell all the way down to 1 hp. Move a pikeman in to cover him. GL hurrys Leo's it will finish next turn just in time to upgrade our pikes to musketmen. Gunpowder in one turn, hope we have saltpeter.

(8) 1520 AD Leo's completed in Niagara Falls. Upgraded pikes to Musketmen all over the kingdom. Destoryed stack of English swords near Grand River. Cats damage stacks of English swordman near Steve's Silks. Boy our cats are lousy 10 shots and only three units damaged.
I hope we can get cannons soon. Set research slider to 70% we still get Chemistry in 11 turns with some income. Burned a good bit of cash upgrading pikemen to Muskets.

(9) 1525 AD Indian swordsmen kill themselves on St Regis's walls three die one musket injured. Bab Swords attacks our knight stack heading toward Ur two die, one knight injured.
We kill immortal stack by Grand River and forify on the mountain no losses. We kill the two stacks of English swordsman that slipped by Grand River no losses.

(11) 1535 AD No AI attacks, English pillage a road near Steve's Silks. I hit the next turn button accidently, no autosave, sorry, I'll finish this turn and pass it on. Our knights destroy two stacks of immortals near Grand River. We now have both mountains fortified you can move some knights in and decimate the enemy forces as they go though the pass. Upgraded more pikemen to Muskets.

Well the game is really starting to get interesting, I took my time spend 4 hours doing 10 tens it was fun! We are looking much better. Unfortunately was not able to expand more in to Bab territory. I did found two cities securing culture boundaries and getting wine. You're probably going to need at least 8 knights with musket backup to take Ur it's a tough nut to crack. I saw the Babs move in more pikes on the last turn, there are probably at least 3 pike defenders some swords and longbowman. We have Leo's and we are 9 turns from chemistry at 70% research. Good luck to the next ruler.

Garsonga

Wow, this game is just flying along. Muskets already.. Now, we could really use Cannons.. :D

Whats with the Romans? We are their neighbours and they havent contacted us yet? Not that I'm complaining or anything.

They cant be that tecnologically advanced, because they know Our continents civs, but our civs are not flying ahead in research.

This will be interesting to see what they have been up to over there. Must have been some serious wars if the Aztec capital is on OUR continent!

Moving workers south I want to build some fortifications on the mountains around Grand Rapids and try to seal off the border.

This probably won't be worth the effort. Forts take forever to build, and we should be soon heading toward their cities.

1495 AD We love the chief day celebrated all over the kingdom. Immortals attack pikes near Grand Rapids and die. We loose 3 knights attacking Immortal/Pike stack near Grand Rapids we kill 2 Pikes and 2 Immortals. I really want to secure that mountain.
 Please tell me you weren't attacking into the mountains. The defender gets a 100% defense bonus. This is pure SUICIDE to try, and 3 knights for 4 units shows.

Good Luck Jersey Joe - I can't believe the Babs can keep holding.
It looks like you need to build one major league SoD.
Especially since we want to capture the last few Bab towns and build the FP in the area.

Yes, I was attacking troops on a mountain. That mountain was right by Grand River and Persia was using it in infiltrate units behind the city to attack our core. I did soften them up with 10 Cats but the RNG was the pits. We did finally secure that mountain and I immediately fortified a musket and pike on it. That is a key link in sealing off our southern border. I normally would not do this but those immortal stacks keep coming with no breaks to give me a chance to secure it without a fight.

Thanks for the comments

Garsonga

1535 Preturn Stop building walls in several towns, switch to temples. If these towns get attacked we have lost so no need for walls.

1540AD Fighting by GR gets us Red Cloud.

1545AD Red Cloud bulds a library at Catturagus.

1550AD We capture a Bab settler.

1555AD We capture a Persian settler.
We Attack Ur. Kill 2 pike defenders & wound 4. We do not lose any knights and get the GL Sitting Bull. Sitting Bull builds a market in Gandasetaigan.
We see Persian Musketman.

1560AD Ur is captured and razed.
Izibia is captured and added to or empire.
We capture a persian settler.

(I) England wants peace but will not surrender its 18 cities to us. They do not even have as much tech as we do. We do not make peace.

1565AD Akkad is added to our empire.

1570AD Not Ur is founded.
Samarra is captured and added to our empire. Capturing Samarra revels the Persian city of Istakha.
Babs will just not give up, I notice they have rebuilt Babylon, to bad I missed the settler :(
Fighting by Steve's gets us the GL Shenandoah.

I notice an Iroquois, err I mean Roman worker, so I meet with Ceasar.
We trade him our WM + Literature + 130 gold for his WM. We are ahead of him tech wise and it seems he has communicatinos with all other civs. Seeing as how Ceasar over charged us for the Map, I ask for a refund and not getting that declare war on him. We now have our first Roman slave :D

(I) We learn Education -- G Library obsolete.

1575AD Shenandoah builds a market in Not Ur.
We destroy the town of Babylon.
The Roman city of Aurelianonem (sp?) is destroyed.
Nippur (bab) is captured and added to our empire.
Shuruppak (bab) is added to our empire.

(I) We learn Chemistry and start on Metalurgy.

1580AD We capture Istakha (Persian) and raze it.
I see 2 bab galleys, I hope they do not have settlers on board.
Our cats in Izibia bombard Bab Galley.
I rush a galley in Izibia.

1585AD Our Galley sinks Bab galley.

Fighting occurred every year around our southern cities. Enough elephants died that we should now have an ivory resource at St. Regis :D

The only Bab city left is Ashur. There is a mini SoD of knights and 1 musketman closing in on it. More of our knights are in cities to the north and north east of Ashur.

I think there is a Bab Galley in the "fog of war" between Izibia & Samarra.

There is a settler in Not Ur.

Salamanca is starving because the 2 shields from the desert mine get a knight built 1 turn faster. As soon as the Mine on the Plains is done a desert mine can be switched and Salamanca will be at 12 population with 24 food.

Allegheny has 12 population with excess food so I am building mines on the plains there.

This might be weed, but in the Jungle between St.R and GR I have musketmen and workers. My plan was to clear the jungle, build a road and repeat until we reach New Bombay. The workers have not yet started clearing jungle. I also thought about building a road south from Steve's over the mountain and hill straight toward Cambridge.

I left a settler active. Also, I left a few knights in Steve's active so you can deside where you want them. For my last few turns, most of the action has been at GR and Steve's

Here it is: Always War
