Hagia is such a good wonder I almost never be able to get it
You can blame me for part of it.
I made a post complaining about how Borobudur got a free monastery, HSophia got a free temple, etc. And how none of these made sense in light of us having Stupas and churches as actual buildings. I also pointed out that Angkor Wat was a bit low on power and also happens to be a very large mandir.
From there, I think G just tried to fit all the religious buildings somewhere. He’s a completionist, but still never managed to find a good spot for a synagogue.
Churches were way worse back then too
How do people feel about Temple of Artemis?
The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced this wonder is just bad. On just about any start, I would rather have Petra than two copies of Artemis.
The wonder or the current status of food?
I'll try to build Artemis with 4UC India because it helps me work specialists a bit earlier without stunting early growth, and the ranged unit production applies to both UU lines which helps a bit with defending. And since I'm usually rushing for Hanging Gardens I'll rarely have science to spare to pick up Currency.
If I played other Tall civs much I'd probably do similar. The food is essentially a free monopoly and the ranged production is pretty nice. A free Herbalist doesn't hurt either. It isn't amazing by any means, definitely the worst Ancient wonder, but occasionally its fine.
My opinion of it dropped after I realized that only the city that builds it gets the production bonus.
ToA has its uses, but its definitely niche.
Yeah it's okay if you are playing tradition with an early ranged UU. But most of the time the bonus amounts to a few dozen to maybe a hundred or so hammers in the capital over the whole game
I use to value it highly, back when Happiness was less of an issue. Now, not so much.
Might be good if you had a good Ranged UU, say Longbows in 4UC's. At least that bonus can always be relevant, even if only 1 City.
It's fine. It's one of the few ancient wonders that scales for wide and is actually relevant in the late game.
Does the production bonus apply to every single ranged unit (including ships and aircrafts)?
Aircraft is not considered a ranged unit.
Ranged, mounted ranged, naval ranged, and siege are what it applies to IIRC.
The production bonus applies to the Archery unit combat class, which only includes ranged and mounted ranged.
And I thought the +10% to food was in every city... it says Cities: +10%
None of us have said otherwise.
I have to say I don't value 10% food in cities other than my capital very highly. The ranged unit production is alright, but I don't think its worth a wonder.
The idea that its the only wonder that scales into the late game is flawed. Petra or Mausoleum scale excellently. I think they are also stronger in the early game, and in the mid game, and the late game..........really at any point they are just better. Artemis is a herbalist with +1 culture and an engineer point. Its decent but I really don't think its worth risking those early game hammers. I've built it on my way to hanging gardens, but it only takes one time to miss the gardens by a turn to realize that its a high risk, low reward play.
Oops! You meant production versus ranged units.
Can we make the Ranged Unit Production bonus Global and drop the Free Herbalist?
The Free Herbalist is a general mechanic that every Wonder supposedly creates a free building of something.
