Big screenshot, sorry.
Spoiler :

I'm England. Two spies in renaissance, whee. Then three soon enough later.

I've got one spy in my capital watching techs get stolen. :mischief:
Other two are in Siam and Byzantine's, as they are leading or at least ahead in certain tech paths.

I particularly love being able to see what wonders are being made as it allows me to pretty much know if i can get one or not.

Theodora starts on Taj Mahal, and is working on it for a while, so i know i can pretty safely get Porcelain Tower, yay.
I've got a number of tall cities in a wider six city empire, and can make wonders in three of them actually. So no Taj for me, but oh well.

But then she suddenly switches to Himeji Castle and leaves Taj in the remaining queue...
But wait, there's more.
Soon after, she switches to The Louvre?! And then where our screenshot is...she's decided to switch to Angkor Wat.

Four wonders, all with a bit of time spent on each, all queued...wtf!

The best part is, because of this silliness, i'm going to end up jacking Himeji and Taj since now i know i can beat her (assuming she doesn't suddenly switch order again :crazyeye:

Seriously, the AI is just amusing sometimes.

She doesn't seem to have any shortage of wonders. Maybe you should send some troops down to liberate them from her!

start building the taj mahal in a city that isn't you're capital (but not the second best science city ) . and see if she chang her build order Do the same thing but then with the hejima castle if she change build order then she knows you are building it

t either she has a spy or the AI knows what you are building... But since you aren't building it in your're capital and in a average city not high population it meens she knows it withouth spying..

Would be interesting to know

Look at the specialit slots...

Yes, it does seem like the AI is playing even worse than we thought.

It's almost a pity that spies exist to let us know of this insanity.

(Although, on the other hand, seeing what the AI is building is rather neat.)

it is kind of neat to see what the ai is doing. I love to place spys in citys that I know are main battlegrounds when the ais are at war with eachother its very eye opening. In one game I had a spy in a city persia was trying to take from rome, persia was a runaway so I thought they would be doing well it turns out they were just throwing everything at the wall and would see what stuck it took them 20 turns to take the city from rome they lost over 10 units due to poor tactics then rome took the city back 8 turns latter persia eventually took the city back then whiped rome out.

Maybe she just wants the gold.

I'm curious, though. If you build a wonder she has in her queue, will you get the "we wanted the same wonders" penalty?

I would like to, but she's on another continent far away, so we'll have to wait a while for that to happen. I have Greece to deal with on mine; he swallowed up Netherlands entirely and will no doubt be knocking on my door soon enough.

Look at the specialit slots...

I think the spy screen might be bugged when it comes to specialist slots.
Even in MP, it doesn't properly show specialists even when they are being used.
In fact, i believe the unworked citizens actually are in specialist slots; it just shows it bugged?
Perhaps someone could confim this.

Well i started Taj in my secondary city and Himeji in my tertiary coastal city.
They do have second and third best science output. Capital is still building Porcelain Tower.

If she knew what i was doing she should have switched back to Taj/Himeji, but she has done the opposite; she's pushed them down in her queue, which is what is going to allow me to build them [i hope].

I'll update when i get back to this game, but it might be a while as i'm likely out camping all wknd.

How do you do that?

Alot of times I am in the middle of building a wonder and I get attacked I am afraid to lose my progress on the wonder to produce a few units.

I had no idea I could pause the wonder and pick up where I left off... tell me how!

You can just switch over what is being produced. It remembers the hammers put into the wonder, etc, you switch away from, though i think at 50 turns later or something you lose the work out into to it. (So don't wait too long to get back to whatever you were working on before)

Or, you can click the checkbox at the bottom "Show Queue" and that allows you to queue up stuff and change order, etc. I prefer to use the queue so i don't forget what i was working on previously.

I've seen the AI do this a lot. (Though normally it's before Renaissance, so the clue is different wonder graphics being built but not completed in the city picture, rather than through spying).

I think it's mainly due to erratic AI.

However the underlying principle is not so bad.

On higher difficulty levels, even if you have great production, you will lose out on some wonders if you build them sequentially. Sometimes it is better to prebuild several wonders and keep them at "1 turn". That will distract the other AI's who may waste several turns building them (at which you complete it). I doubt this is the AI's reasoning though.

Four specialist slots and three laid off citizens...

I disagree. That puts them more at a disadvantage to us. Part of the challenge is unpredictableness, like in narrowly getting beat to a wonder or sneak attacks. Why remove something like those from the equation?

The city is on Production focus. The specialist slots are artist, merchant, and scientist (no engineer). I think it's a perfectly reasonable option.

Maybe she could be working that farmed plains, but there could be reasons to still have unskilled specialists.

AI can also spy to know about your city details as well so that is not unfair.

Although humans can manipulate such data more effectively it doesn't mean that we should remove features based on this. Otherwise the first thing that will be removed would be highly exploitive luxury trading.

Forgot about the production bonus from unemployed citizens. I also didn't see to production focus check.

Byzantium is working a one food marsh, and has three unemployed citizens but has an unused three food one prod and one gold plains. Smart AIs

Well, I did note that unworked farmed plains.

I'm probably making excuses for the computer, but the main explanation I can think of is that maybe an enemy unit was recently occupying that tile and just moved off so the governor has not yet had the chance to rework the tile. If you look at the bottom right you can see at least one tile that is occupied by an enemy unit. Since there's a river separating those tiles it is *unlikely* (though not impossible) that it was the same unit from the previous turn.

There could also be an issue if a nearby city was recently using that tile and just switched.
