Narayan Empire
Nation Name: Narayan Empire
Government Type: Parliamentary Theocratic Monarchy
Ruler: Kali (meaning Emperor) Palo Rami III (Address diplomacy to Head Minister Gudrun)
Factions:
Class Factions:
The Monarchy- a sheltered and pampered family supposedly descended from the first and only children of God. Figureheads- they are "strongly advised" as what to do in matters of state, but ultimately have final say. Rich and educated, they are capable rulers in and of themselves.
The Clergy- the Church of God (no relation) is and has been highly organized for centuries, and has immense, almost total sway over the lower classes and portions of the middle classes of the Empire.
Mercantile- upper class, rich, priviledged. Work office jobs and as diplomats- business tycoons with huge influence with the government, clergy, monarchy and foreign powers.
Middle class- factory and farm work, grocery and conveinience stores- the right to vote, pay taxes, work, pray, eat, sleep, pray, pay taxes.
Lower class- slaves, born into it and die as one, who earn no pay for their work. If they have skills they can use to earn money elsewhere, outside of their masters' employ, then they can legally buy their freedom. They are always treated as second class citizens, however.
Political Factions:
Most all of the population adheres to certain economic, social, political and military ideologies; I am Far too lazy to write them all out here.
Katars (pro-expansionist faction, votes for militaro leaders)
Mohani (conservative, secure what we have before forging onto new ventures)
Kapila (anti-slavery faction, whose only agenda is abolishing the evil institution)
Political Movements:
Nationalists, anti-Clergy, anti-Monarchy, pro-Parliament movement
Anarchists- anti-government, anti-church (but not religion)
Revolutionists (psuedo-socialist)
Major Ethnic Groups:
Narayans- majority group. Tall, dark complexions, the males of which are often born with open cuts, which scar over, giving them an unusually war-ridden appearance.
Sampwe- minority group. Tall, black complexions, the males of which are often born with open cuts, which scar over, giving them an unusually war-ridden appearance. The Sampwe people are mostly the lower, slave class of the Narayan society. There are a few extreme exceptions, such as the current Head Minister. The Sampwe's original religion was Druidism, but the majority of them have since converted to Saco-ism or Narayan Oneism.
Religion(s)/State Religion:
Major Religions:
Narayan Oneism. Majority, State Religion. (Oneists, worshipping the One creator of the world who has eventually come to be known as God (no relation). The Narayans, or more specifically, the Rami Narayans, are the descendants of his only Children, and the Narayan people as a whole were chosen to acompany the Rami family to Heaven And Beyond.)
Saco-ism (Sacrasts, worshipping the celestial bodies as the heralds of the new age, and the creation of the world from dust, fire and ice.)
Druidism- (Druids, worship of the usual ground, sky, water, fire spirits, etc)
History (Going back at least a century):
History of the Narayan Empire.
Years 1400-1407
Lesser Naraya, with the help of their eastern neighbor, Aquash, conquers North Naraya, the heartland and Holy Land of the Oneists, after decades of tense relations and slung insults, in the form of assassinated Priests and diplomats.
Years 1407-1410
Quelling the dissent of the newly conquered and beaten North Naraya is easier than the Theocratic Council of God, the then-leaders of the newly created Greater Naraya anticipated. Theirs is a readily accepted rule in the new lands, as they hold great sway over the people.
Year 1410
Religious revolts spurred by food riots weaken Aquash. Seeing their chance, the Theocratic Council of God declares a holy war against the now smaller and weakened state.
Years 1411-1417.
The holy war is noy going well; Aquash's southern allies of the Hanadan Kingdom and the Republic of Eutrep's reinforcements in the thousands turned the tide of war against the growing Narayan state. The Council calls up thousands more untrained levy-men; a draft is implemented. Each man is taught the use of simple rifle and musket, and the formations and tactics involved.
Years 1417-1430.
The holy war is won! The Narayan Capital at Burgha is razed in a last ditch attempt at changing the tides of war; however, it is in vain. Forty thousand levies and accompanying cavalry and artillery arrive just too late to save the city, but just in time to hit the wavering attackers and score a glorious victory. The Hanadan Kingdom is subdued, Aquash destroyed, and the Republic of Eutrep beaten in their homeland- their colonies is all that is left. Greater Naraya is turned slowly into the Narayan Empire, with many new difficulties to deal with in the way of Sampwe citizens from Eutrep and Aquash. Their religion spreads quickly through the sympathetic, if overzealous, Narayan population, and is absorbed to fit with Oneism in some places, ridiculed in others, and outright adopted in yet others.
Year 1431.
A new capital is planned at the site of the final battle of the Twenty Years War of God. The thirty thousand now-veterans called up as levies years before gave a terrifying ultimatum out of nowhere to the Monarchy and Council: the Constitution of Men as was promised two hundred years ago in a very different political climate is demanded, in full, and with additions of their own.
Years 1431-1441.
Ten years of brutal and glorious construction of the new Utopian Capital City of Narai backed by the major corporations of the region co-occupy the public's mind with the political debate over the Constitution of Men. The People's Army, as the thirty thousand veterans now call themselves, have found allies in the Narayan Empire's northern neighbors, the Cottotch Empire. Long-standing enemies of the Narayan people in general, it is an uneasy alliance, but an alliance nonetheless. Progress is made, in the favor of the Constitution. No one is sure how this situation will end.
Years 1442-1443.
An agreement is secretly made between the Narayan Empire and the People's Army. The Army is to publicly admit defeat and retreat to the Cottoch Empire, and then sack the cities and raze the countryside. It is a gamble on the Army's part, and a win-win on the Empire's. The stipulation, however, is that the constitution will be put in place, giving more control to the corporations and people in general. Matters of state would then be dictated by representatives, elected by the mob itself.
Years 1443-1450.
The People's Army moved north into the plainslands of the Cottotch Empire, supposedly seeking refuge. It split into two major camps near the two major cities on the coast, and into countless smaller camps (which would spend their time setting ablaze to crops and killing war-capable men in the small towns) throughout the country. The plan goes well, the two cities razed, the populations fleeing into the night. The leaders are less fortunate, and are killed unceremoniously. The Constitution is put into place, without a drop of Royal of Clergy blood spilled. Their power is waned, but it was that or utter destruction and loss of their lives.
Years 1450-1470.
The Clergy and Royalty, still bitter about their loss of power, ten years after the fact, declare the People's Army's actions treason, and put living-bounties on the heads of the organizers, meaning they should be brought in alive. The leaders disappear for a dozen years, then appear at the new Capitol building in Narai, waiting to be addressed by the Clergy, Council of Men (Parliamentary representatives), and Royalty. Discussions are held in private, away from reporters and the press, and one day mid-winter the entire party leaves the discussion room for the last time. Little of what was discussed was released to the public, to this day. The Clergy dropped the subject after that, but the Royalty is still bitter. The integration of the new lands, peoples, religions, currencies and languages from Aquash, Hanadan, Eutrep and Cottotch are all going well, with new, up-to-standard ammunitions, automobile, tank and household appliance productions factories and facilities popping up everywhere, smogging up the sky, while corn, wheat, beef and pig farms and ranches are built.
The Four Colonies of Sabia West, Sabia East, Izang and Kaveh-Kreios are established; Each with either an agricultural, industrial or key strategic military outpost prospect. Or combination therein. Pick and choose, LOD
Years 1470-1510- The current Year.
Forty years of quiet, peaceful agricultural and industrial constuction and expansion is continued. Over the past hundred years, the government of the Narayan Empire has been slapped on the wrists by the international community repeatedly for wars of aggresions and illegal land-grabs, poor work conditions for the lower echelons of society, the high unchecked crime levels in the north of the country, and the ancient tradition of slavery still implemented throughout.
Description at Current:
With the public's mind on the new invention, Peanut Butter, and the prospect of a new technology called Hydro-Electricy, not alot of people are noticing the suspicious re-election of a rather unpopular pro-monarchy Katar Head Minister, Gudrun, or the vulture pirates in the seas and on the land, and the rising tensions between the Narayan Empire and <PC of your choice> over the <Colony of your choice, and the implications therein>. The corporations own the government, which owns the clergy, which owns the military, which enforces the law of the government to ease the ability of the corporations to make money, and goes to war based on the varying necessities and whims of the corporations' shareholders, while the monarchy watches angry and helpless
