Looking for a Computer Game with Airplanes and Shooting

Can you recommend a game where I can fly in the air and shoot at stuff? No simulators please, it has to be simple. The graphics have to be good, but I can live with merely decent.

I played Crimson Skies once and it was nice, although I wouldn't mind something a bit more modern.

There are several first person shooters that have this.

Battlefield 1942 is a bit old, but it was one of the best at offering what you seek. It still lives on in a variety of mods as well (Desert Combat Final, etc.).

Battlefield Vietnam was also an update to this, centering on the Vietnam war, so its mostly helicopters. Its flight engine was also a tad bit different that 1942 with a different 'feel' to it.

Battlefield 2 is a more modern version of the game, offers the same style gameplay with some updated graphics.

Isn't there a new Tom Clancy flying game that's arcade-like instead of simulation? I'm more a sim fan so I'm not very familiar with the more action-oriented flight games.

Is Battlestations Pacific any good?

HAWX is utter, utter crap. DO NOT buy it.

Battlestations Midway has some planes in it but not too great. I'd recommend BF1942 or BFV, they're pretty nice.

I actually can't say I ever played a lot of pilot-type games such as the Battlefield etc... games mentioned above (though I know this are good recommendations.) As far as flashbacks to really cool but old games, though, I'd have to say the Star Wars X-Wing/Tie Fighter series was great, although of course it's not a realistic setting and it's also quite dated as far as graphics etc... go.

Wings was very fun, the only flight instrument you had was the head of your pilot looking in the direction of the ennemy plane .

But it's an old game. I think I played that on my Amiga.
