Does anyone know a good leader for playing heavily into trade, starting in antiquity? Also, does trading actually give you money or does it really just give you resources only?
Xerxes The Achaemenid is probably the leader with abilities most directly tied to trade routes. That is correct: trade routes give the other person money and you resources--so you get money for receiving rather than sending trade routes.
Trade bonuses on leaders are rare. If you don't have access to Xerxes The Achaemenid (apparently you don't), Hatshepsut gets culture from imported resources. But that's not "heavily into trade," it's more of a nice to have bonus.
Amina is a decent pick for economy-focused game; increased resource capacity, extra gold for resources. Definitely made it easier to hit the legacy path in antiquity.
Echoing what others are saying here: Xerxes Achaemenid, Hatshepsut, or Amina. Honestly, I really like Amina - the extra resource capacity can make a real difference, and having some (albeit situational) combat bonuses is nice when you're trying to expand your own territory (which is what gets other folks sending trade routes to you, and starts rolling in the cash.)
