I've been looking for some sort of game more focused on the intra-family politics that went with medieval monarchys. When I played games like Rome: Total War I noticed that I had way more fun messing with the family tree stuff and building up the individual people then playing the "real" game. I love Civ IV but there's really nothing like that in it. Is there some game that focuses heavily on things like this? Thanks.

Blood Royale was an OK boardgame from ages back, but you needed 5 people to play it and it wasn't as good as Derek Carver's previous board game, Warrior Knights.

Yeah, adding my voice to the chorus of Crusader Kings advocates.

Crusader Kings rules. Excellent choice; the game is entirely based on court drama, essentially.

Don't forget to get the expansion pack Deus Vult. It comes packaged with the game sometimes.

How could I forget this

And check this out for the plot... this is NOT a joke

According to the instruction booklet and in-game introduction, Vibe Island (a land adjacent to the Mushroom Kingdom) has been rumored to hold hidden powers. Bowser builds his summer villa there in hopes of harnessing the rumored power. His efforts are rewarded when one of his underlings finds the Vibe Scepter. He sends a Goomba and an army of Hammer Brothers to Princess Peach's castle to capture Mario. The Vibe Scepter changes the emotions of those around them – they will become calm, happy, angry or sad. While all of the Toad servants are distracted, the Hammer Brothers seize Mario, Luigi and Toad. Shortly after the capture, Princess Peach, Toadsworth, and another Toad come back to the castle to find them gone. Toadsworth attempts to convince Peach to not go after them, but relents and gives her Perry, a talking parasol that has magical powers.

The Sims.

Except you need to get them to breed with thier family for a couple hundred years before they get sufficiently warped enough to actually be royalty.

Thanks for the advice I'm getting Crusader Kings I like some of the other Paradox games a lot. I was actually thinking about the Sims though they mostly get annoying once you're done killing them in odd ways.
