Never used any forums but c+c section, so i hope im adhering to all rules...

I have a 200x150 scenario map, and i am looking to (quadruple?) it to 400x300. It is common knowledge that with big maps, even at the lowest graphic settings you still get a failed to allocate video memory message. Also, it will have an amount of civs in the 100s or 200s appearing and disappearing throughout the ages, no mroe than 50 at a time. Mainly, my focus is the graphic crash, because it renders the game so totally unplayable on big maps.

The main question is, more memory for what I want, or better graphic card. My guess has been graphics card but I have seen some mention of more memory instead.

And if you have a graphics card in mind (supposing that's what I need more) please suggest it, I know there are several that have issues with this game and with games period.

I currently have 1 gig ram and a 256mb x300 (ati i think), which is a little strained by this game on huge + maps.

Any reccomendations are appreciated greatly, thanks!

Sure your G card is fine so get another gig and a faster processor. If your dual'n then overclock the bit#ch (dual don't mean nutin with civ4)

ok, but just to make sure, my graphics card has trouble running other modern games... just making sure XD

and processor is 3.2 p4, what is your opinion on the processor?

i run 1 gig, 2.8 pentium 4... No Graphics card jsut standard Mobo connection.. I ru nthe game just fine. IF i leave it runnign for more than 3 hours, or open world builder thats when i have problems. my settigns are on medium i believe.. Makesure u got nothign running i nthe background.

Thank you for the replies. While I have no problem running huge maps, 400x300 with 50 civs at a time is sure to be a problem, when I have the occasional late game crashes to begin with.

Also note I have a 100$ absolute max spending money, so I can't really upgrade my processor ;) I'll either have enough for a far better graphics card or another gig of memory (supposing theres a free slot in my computer, curse you dual channel ram).
