    A town
I'm playing a China on a large map with Epic speed on Warlords. Everything is random. I built the Great Lighthouse in one of my 2 good production cities. I have about 9 cities right now. I just took 2 from Frederick including one that was a holy city.

Frederick's lands are much better than mine.

I have a lot of desert while he has a lot grassland and even a couple of rivers.

I am on a winding island with Frederick and Mansa Musa. MM's land is mostly tundra, but he is still out teching me.

My research is going very slowly right now so I need help. Frederick just learned Feudalism and upgraded archers to longbows so I had to call off my attacks. It seems I can't build units fast enough to attack and they have to travel a long way to get to the front lines. Should I focus on infrastructure, rebuilding a larger army, continue expanding, etc.? What should I have done differently (keep in mind I didn't know it would be so production poor at the start). I am ready for all critiques and criticisms as I am a long time Civ3 player, but still pretty new to cIV.

Ignore plains tiles until you have Biology. If you are forced to work a plains tile, use slavery to kill that citizen and gain extra production.

Infrastructure is VERY BAD on poor production maps. You should focus on the basics: settlers, workers, and military to capture better land.

    Eew, that's some ugly land.

Take some good land by the sword.
