Hi everyone,

I posted this in the New Member thread as well, but thought it might get more visibility if I posted it separately.

I've been playing Civ off and on since the original version came out. I've got Civ4 now, and my 6-year-old son is fascinated with it. He's dying to play the game himself, and while he's very bright and computer savvy for his age, the complexity of the game is just a little bit outside his grasp.

I was wondering if there was a mod that streamlines or simplifies the game enough that he might be able to handle playing it himself (with supervision of course). Alternatively, if there are other "Civ-like" games that are more suitable for younger children, those suggestions would be welcomed. But what he really wants to do is play Civ just like his daddy! :)

Thanks,
Keith

Maybe CivRev-or even try starting him with Civ II which is less complex than Civ4.

I started young too! But I started with 2. 2 is great as it is simple yet at the same time fun. Still my second favorate. (With AC first) So yeah I agree with nbcman.

Both Civ II and Revolution are excellent suggestions.

However, is it really kid-friendly to start your kid off on a life-destroying addiction so early? :D

Civilization IV though isn't really too complex in regards to the basics you'd need to know to blast through chieftan. As long as the kid is told how to automate workers and build a few settlers and military units between all the shiny wonders he wants and to update his civics when he gets new ones, he should be able to stumble into a settler space victory. The only real complication would be war... if he wants to invade he would need to be taught the basics. (i.e. have a stack of doom and use seige)
