The Dude does have sex with the English lady, though. ("to improve the chances of conception..." *white Russian everywhere*) Plus that ferret got rather friendly in the bathtub. :D

Wasn't there a straight sex scene, too?

The Big Lebowski doesn't have any romance, though. He was basically a sperm donor.

Farenhiet 9/11 would be along with that category, that is, if you consider it to be a movie at al.

I believe there's an action movie with no love interest. I believe it has no females in the movie. It's just pure action. I haven't seen it though and I don't remember the name.

That had guns and fighting in though :p. And i would consider anything released in cinema's to be a movie, regardless of its style, so it counts.

It was in reference to the first category of this thread, not the impossible one.

most block buster get that way because of a compeling plot. How do you have a compeling plot without a predictable romance? Besides it also helps if there is nudity which usualy requires some romance.

But the first preditor woukd be an example of a romance free blockbuster

IIRC, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles didn't have any real romantic love going on nor did it have any real violence.

I had thought that too, but they actually have sex at the end of the scene where they first hire Denzel to be the bodyguard. And on reviewing to confirm that, the reporter has sex with the cop for information too, although that wasn't really romantic.

How about 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly'? ('Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo') I don't recall any romantic interests in the movie, but it's far too long for me to scan it. Oh and it's way beyond the timeframe too... :wallbash:

    Amen to that! ;)

Slightly off topic - The Power of One (by Bryce Courtney) is one of my favorite books of all time. But in the movie version those bastards inserted a romantic subplot. Ruined the whole movie for me, I didn't even watch the rest.

    Star Trek - First Contact?
    And for sure: Das Boot.
Now wait, not a Hollywood movie  ...

    Bah!

Part of the problem here is that romance and sex is so deeply engrained into our culture that, unless it's quite explicit, I don't really even notice it when I watch movies... or rather, I notice it, but it's as natural as breathing, so I don't really consider it remarkable.

I'm not sure a not so subtle implication of married people having sex (who would've thought *that* happens!? :crazyeye: ) really counts as romance though. Their romance had happened years before the start of the movie, and was never made into a plot element.

Star Trek films, I'm sure they've been big enough to qualify and I can't think of much romance. Unless you include Riker and Data

    Apocalypse Now
Touching the Void (though I don't think it was that big a hit)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (as above)

You can probably shove in a few war films. All blood and violence leaves little time for romance.

The Thing (1982) had an all-male cast, and no one ever refered to any love interest or romance that may have happened offscreen. It was all blood, gore, and psychological horror.

    Certainly not a 0-Voilence, but still a 0-Love/God movie.

Love romance and sex are deeply engrained into humans and so important to us that we find it exceedingly difficult to exorcise them from anything we do. Loves drives us all.

BTW most of those action movies mentioned include some sort of male bonding which is just another form of romance and love. ;)

Not Thing, just lots of paranoid shootings and heads-growing-legs.
