All hail Warlord Onagan! :worship:

:goodjob:

I'm at work currently. Can you attach an image?

I still feel we need to take out Hannibal. It will be a real nuisance if we allow him to survive and remain as Mao's vassal.

But, the underlying question is do we follow an aggressive path or peaceful path once this war is complete? Do we pursue a domination victory or space victory? Or, do we back into a diplomatic victory?

Order of Play:

I'm hoping to learn a lot more about managing warfare by playing this group game. It's one area in which I am very weak. So take whatever advice I have with that in mind.

There are some things to consider:

(1) Pay attention you your power rating. If it's too low, you'll get bullied and attacked. Always be building some fighting units.

(2) Do not go into offensive wars ill prepared. Have the necessary force to be victorious.

(3) Have units in position before you declare war.

(5) Protect your backside against a third-party coming in against you. Geography may or not be in your favor here.

(6) Go into war w/ short term and long term plans. Once your short term goal is met, end the war ASAP.

(7) Don't underestimate the power of cats/trebs, essential in war once crossbowmen and longbowmen arrive.

Hannibal does have Rifleman in his cities, I'm not sure if Spearman, Maceman, Knight can stand up against that. Hannibal as Mao's vassal means more costs for China.

I can attach a image, but what do you want to see? The region around Carthage?

Riflemen or Musketmen? I see a musketman.

From the log, I see that Elizabeth has researched liberalism. So we've lost that race without running it.

I'll need to look at the save, but if we can get a breather while holding Carthage, that would put us in a better position for either war or peace. We can leverage our production, rush some culture in Carthage, and position units for our next war.

Awesome! Well done, Onagan!

We need a short period of peace, I reckon. We have 16 pikeman, lol. Beyond that: 4 warriors, 4 axemen, 2 macemen, 2 spearman, 6 cats, 3 trebs, 1 musket. Oh, and an archer and longbowman. We need offensive units. We're a bit ahead of everybody in the power graph except Mao; he's got about twice our power.

This may all be moot: Mao wants Carthage and Philosophy for peace. He may accept something less, I suppose. (I can't get Hannibal to come up; not even a declination, just nothing when I click his name. Anybody know what that is?) I'd try to secure a cease fire without giving anything up.

We will have to draft if the war proceeds. We could probably take Hippo now if we throw all our siege at it, then hold it with copious pikes; I'd rather leave some cats in Carthage to defend against any further stacks Mao might send our way.

I agree that Hannibal ultimately needs to be gotten rid of, either now if we have to stay in the war and can manage, or after a short period of rebuilding. Note, though, that our geography is getting pretty bad. I wish we had the wherewithal to mount a massive offensive against England, but that's clearly out of the question.

(Interesting challenge, perhaps: Play a pangæa map and build cities only along the coastline, until the center of the continent is completely encircled by your empire.)

Dojoboy, as to which victory we're pursuing, I think we'll be in a better position to answer that after dealing harshly with Hannibal.

Isn't Hannibal a part of the power of Mao, which explains the overscore of Zedong

Yep.

The issue w/ Hannibal being Mao's vassal, is we cannot declare a second war just against Hannibal without going to war w/ Mao again. That may be inevitable, but I don't see war with Mao necessary a second time for some years. Getting rid of Hannibal now is preferred.

We won't know unless and until somebody actually tries to cut a deal with Mao, but I suspect what is inevitable is that we're going to have to keep on fighting the present war whether we want to or not.

Moscow can come out of stagnation for a pop. St Pete's should switch to muskets/maces. If it's felt the immediate threat is abated, Rostov could perhaps come out of stagnation as well. If it seems safe, a worker could usefully build a mine in New Kerk.

Any interest in switching to CS? Don't really want to pop another prophet out of Yek.

Pre-turn plan

* Sino-Russo War:
- Capture & raze Macau
- Prep force to siege/capture Hippo

* Builds: Only looking at the next build in each city. Keep in mind, we are still at war. And, China is still unrealistic regarding terms - not that we are wishing for peace yet.
- Yekaterinburg: Christian Monastery
- New Kerk: knight
- Carthage: knight
- Yakutsk: courthouse
- Moscow: knight
- St. Petersburg: knight
- Novgorod: catapult
- Istanbul: bank (50% increase would be nice)
- Rostov: catapult
- Yaroslavl: knight

* Research: I'm somewhat miffed on where to go after MT. I was thinking Economics, but Education is already known by a couple rivals - meaning we may not get to Economics first. I would like free Great Merchant, to cah out and increase our research investment.

Thoughts?

I don't have access to the save, so I don't know what our options are right now. If we are thinking of a longer war, then a move to chemistry might be good--we can complement our cossacks with grenadiers for city busting. After that, we need to think about shifting our economy into the modern era once this war winds down.

I'm not sure how the timing is going to work, but I will be out of town Saturday (after morning) through most of Sunday. It may work out that I can get the file and post a plan, then not play until Sunday night (after revising the plan). If that sounds like too long, then I'll need a skip.

If we are going to prolong this war, lets get a pillage stack or two going behind enemy lines for $$ acquisition and some well needed recon.

Aoxo
