Not planning to play an RPC here, but I want to try my hand at ONE Diety game before undertaking the next step in Civilization, CiV!

Looking for advice and I plan to play the game out every day or two, something to keep busy with.

I used random leader, Big/Small standard sized map, Epic speed.

The Random Leader Generator gave me

Pacal of the Mayans! A liuttle I have shown little respect for in the best "###" leader polls, let us see if I can prove myself to be wrong and not know what I am talking about.

The Land

Pacal start with Mysticism and Mining.

How do we start here???

I am thinking agriculture followed by BW and hunting for the resourceless UU but I am unsure how long we have until the BArbarians start to attack?

Looking to have fun at all costs. Victory is preferred, but doubtful, but I plan to play it out the bitter end.

Also look for frequent and short segments as I plan some serious micromanagement here.

the wait is tooo long ...

great some new game to wath...
I am not expert as some... but i would consider settling 1NW if i read the starting position right (to get those other corns in BFC)

starting techs :goodjob:

Pacal rocks!!!

Mad - I know you generally don't play Deity, but I thought you'd won some Deity games before or at least tried them.

I can win somewhat regularly on Immortal now but this is in fact the first Diety game I have played. Call me MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But oh how epic would it be to actually win!

yayyyyyyyy!!!!! another mad's game :king:
looking forward to it
please make the game more than just some mathematical analysis.
(like humor,story etc) :please:

Looks tile tundra south from the screenshot. Good luck.

Unless this is an extremely small map, that is unlikely. From where the settler is standing there are jungle tiles 2n3w and 3n3w.

I like SIP, Ag > BW.

i would climb from that goody hill, well, maybe cause i love green hills:)

1SE for me, agri and most likely AH next

AGR-->AH-->BW--> Wheel-->Hunting--> Archery (if no copper)-->Pottery.

If you're really paranoid about barbs, take Hunting-->Archery before BW even. It looks like you have coast to the east, so the area around your capitol should be somewhat easy to fog bust.

The Mad Diety: The First Step!

The young boy awoke in the morning to his annoyance. Before yesterday he had been happy and content, living life only in the forrests with little concerns since he was abandonned as a baby. Sure he knew about people and learned the language, but always kept a distance.

However that changed once he was found by a group these Mayan explorers and somehow taken as the god of the woods! Now these savages have placed him on top of a hill as their god and await his decisions on where to settle permanantly, as he would really know! Still Pacal had little choice in the matter and should make best of the situation, he looks for advice from the people who really know what to do themselves but for some reason need HIS decision.

"Settle in PLace"

"Move NorthWest."

"Settle on the river for levees"

Just was is a damned levee??? These Mayans know Mysticism, proven by their acceptance of him as god, plus somehow know how to mine which is surprising considering there is all forrest about. However when Pacal suggests perhaps the yellow ears or smelling beats can be more intelligently supervised he got some blank looks.

"Go look at what's beyong the northern forrest before we settle."

SO the Mayan warrior moves northwest to find

Glittering from the grasslands are precious metals that the Mayans can immediately start to harvest, but requires some time to resettle.

The child god listens to what is told and then decides..................................

That's a nice sight. But I'm a pessimist and jungle will creep. Tempted to go 1S so the corn auto irrigates later and 2nd city can tag fresh water. Will let others continue the 4 page discussion settling.

I like 1NW. 2 Corns and Gems.

Enlist the animalistic abilities of Rolo "Tonto" the Magician.

i would definitely settle 1 NW. extra corn and gems
levees come too late. games are decided in 100-150 turns

The Mad Diety: The Mighty Mutal!

Pacal tired of waiting, beginning to feel the thrill of being the Child-God of the Mayans.

"People, bring the shiney stones to me, for you god rgeatly desires them!"

And so the settler moved to the NW hill to found

MUTAL! 2 corns, gems, and abundant forrests to chop leave sthe Mayans in a good situation.

The Mayans begin researching Agriculture to harvest the golden ears soon to be followed by Bronze Working to chop away the forrests.

THe Mayan warrior is sent north to search the lands and discovers

Well, so much for rushing this leader with a resourceless UU.

The noble Mayan warrior spent much time scouting lands in honor of their Child-God until the inevitable termination in the belly of a lion. However, a map was sent off to Pacal

The SBs are located north to us and can be cut off, IF we can get settlers fast enough.

Now it must be the unharvested spices all arround, but some outlying Mayans discovered an interesting herb which they presented to the Child-God.

Pacal takes one wiff and is delighted, ordering full tests and granting the Mayans much additional health. Come industrialization the Matans should be setup for alot of extra health.

After Bronze Working, the Mayans find

Copper right on our doorsteps!

So PAcal took a rest to think things through at the year 3000 BC.

A map shows

That my thinking is to settle to the north first, forgetting the copper/jumbos for now. The issue is if there is another civilization to the south.

Research is going along well working the gems, my thinking is to drop the slider to 90% to buildup a bit of treasury as random events may be a big deal this early.

The next tech I think should be hunting, then perhaps the wheel and pottery although animal husbandry would provide a better defense if the SBs to the north become aggressive. However, the native Americans tend to be peaceful if not terribly frindly.

The obvious problem with settling the north is that it looks from the screenshot to be mostly unworkable jungle. I'm guessing that on Deity you can ill afford a dead-weight city in the early game, even if it's a nice blocker.

City #1 has corn after the first border pop while city 2 would have corn and fish. That may be enough to whip what is needed at first, but not too sure.

if the gem near "city1" is actually not jungled, then I think this is an excellent site providing further commerce without too much hassle (researching pottery, writing or such). This leaves other options open, like more settlers earlier.
