I've had good experience learning Civ 4 here. I'm thankful so I think I want to share a game I'm decent at.

I play riichi mahjong online, mostly on Mahjong Soul (perhaps the most popular online mahjong) and also on Tenhou. 3 player to be specific. A few words about the game. These platforms are not for gambling with money. I mostly play ranked and perhaps most games played on these platforms are ranked. You do a few things in the game: build your hand, watch for threats, and evaluate if you should keep pushing your hand against the threats. You get about 5 seconds per move so you have to keep thinking even when it's not your turn. Basically you have to process a lot of information to be good, which is a bit like Civ to me. The result of a single game is mostly luck. But if you are good you get to the second highest room in about 200 games, with 15-20 min each on MJS. A bit of grind, but doable if you like the game. I would say fast pace and luck actually makes the game enjoyable. As of monetization, Tenhou is free except for the top room, for which you need a subscription. MJS is a gacha game. Mahjong is essentially free there: you need copper to enter a ranked room, but you can mostly get enough free copper. You can create another account as last resort.

To get started, for the rules you can look at the in-game tutorial of MJS for a basic idea. The English Wikipedia page for Japanese Mahjong is decent

I wonder if some of you also play online mahjong or are interested. If you are new I'm willing to share my knowledge. It would be great if we can get a few games.

As of myself I am a 3-player celestial on MJS. On a popular stats site this is top 0.08% for players who have been caught playing a game in the gold room or above. Might sounds good but most players don't seem to study hard for the game. I'm getting rusty because of Civ 4.
