A wealthier guy could be armed with a spear/sword. Perhaps also a shield and a helmet. I know javelins and bows were popular. As was, apparently, a trimmed beard and long hair, the Jesus-look.
Also, at around 200 BC various Hellenistic items; helmets etc might have found their way south.
Dont know much about body armour. I think that the early Muslims used chain mail so extensively that they earned a nickname, the black army. Prior to that I am not sure. But the blacksmiths of Yemen were renowned.
