Make Civ More Like History

I think we should make Civ more like history. Here is what we should do:

1. Your civ starts when it was actually created and with the resources it had when it was actually created.

2. Only great people actually born in that civ in RL can be born in Civilization.

3. No letters or words appear on the screen until the discovery of Alphabet and Writing

4. No time until Calender.

5. No playing the game until you discover Computers.

6. You instantly win or lose and are given a summary of the game once you pick a civ.

7. You can only lead a civ for 40 years before dying, or 8 years with America after a certian point.

This is obviously a joke. Add to the list of stupid things that would happen if Civ was exactly like history. They can be normal but still a bit annoying, funny, crazy, or completly insane. I don't care. Have fun!

8. Non-vehicle units die or retire after 20-40 years worth of service. Unless they make a trip to a city to recruit more soldiers.

9. Vehicle units run out of gas if they dont stop by a city after 2 full turns of movement. (Think fighters from previous incarnations.)

10. Units are in proper scale to buildings. (Thus tiny specs on the map)

11. Mass Media decreases science output and productivity of most of your cities by 20%. it might add some gold to your biggest cities and cost some gold in others as well, hmmz.

12. New tech : Fire. Until you discover it, you'd play with a black screen.

13. No multiplayer Civ game allowed until you found The Internet.

14. The Great Library, The Mausoleum of Mausollos, The Colossus etc... would be destroyed by a "random" event in every game ... not so random, uh ?

15. You can't developpe a civilization any further than what it was when it was destroyed for real.

Actually, these 3 would make sense and could be fun. Imagine some menu with images and you have to try to find your way for teching to Writing so you can understand what they really mean

16. Only wonders built by your civilization in real life can be built by your civ in the game.

17. You start on a real-world map where your civ started. You can't build costal cities if your civ is landlocked, can't build off an island if you civ in RL is stuck there, etc.

19. wonders shouldn't do anything except generate culture. They're so unrealistic as they are now.

20. conquering the world should be impossible. every real life empire has fallen and will fall.

21. sometimes your entire civilization should be randomly wiped out by an earthquake or plague beyond your control. this would especially be awesome in multiplayer games.

23: The game must be played in real time.

ROFL  :goodjob:

24. You cannot see the whole tech tree at the start of the game. Techs will be revealed as you research up the tech tree. (This makes sense - in real life, men in caves don't beeline for military tradition or mass media)

And (if possible) dynamic tech tree, meaning that it is revealed like taillesskangaru told, but also set to different (but logical) order every (?) time and not containing all possible stuff all the time. So, might be that you never 'invent' something like banking, but there are allways some guaranteed techs like gunpowder.

When you pick a civ, you'll be unable to move units, build cities or start wars. In fact, you won't be able to do anything, just sit back and watch your civ grow to it's exact position. In real time of course.

28. Before you can build the pyramids, you have to go to your local shop and buy the stones!

29.

Turn 1: 4000BC you start your civilisation, build a city and send a scout off to explore the woods. Start building a great obelisk for the gods.

Turn 2: 3950BC You die and are succeeded by the next leader. Game over.

30. Jared Diamond's civilization. the player with the best starting location automatically wins. you just press enter over and over to see how it happens.

OK, along with the "funny screensots" thread and sis's "princes of the universe" story (which I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't read it, you'll find a link to it in my sig) this is setting up to be one of the best threads ever! Here's a few of mine:

31. When you play for the French civ the writing on the screen should come up in French and the same for all the other foreign civs.

32. Resources should run out eventually.

33. Unless all civs adopt the environmentalism civic global warming should start even without nukes.

34. If your capital is razed or captured your government should collapse.

35. When you give another civ one of your techs you should have to wait a few turns while you teach that other civ your tech.
