Well, windowed mode would be nice, but I ussually play with the internet explorer runing and use the alt-tab to switch. It doesnt make the game slower.
Alt tab is useful but a window has the advantage that you can see whether someone has sent a message to you using MSN etc far easier. Although I doubt this will change.
Its also nice if you want to run the game under linux using WineX, or if you're playing a multiplayer game and want to do other things with your computer while your friends take their civ3 turns.
Whats annoying about the alt-tab approach is that your monitor has to switch resolution modes (i.e. CLICK.....CLICK) and everything gets fuzzy for a few seconds. Plus, this action of always switching resolution modes (from alt-tabbing) wears out your monitor faster.
Agreed. Civ4 should definitely allow a windowed mode. Even if the width and height of the window would be hardcoded by Firaxis, I would still prefer a window rather than fullscreen.
