Some of you must by now have heard of that whole A&F t-shirt controversy. I'd like to ask our Asian(and other) civbrothers what they think of the T-shirts and whether they were actually bad. Now, the Buddha shirt did border on the offensive, but the other T-shirts seemed quite funny. "Two Wongs make it all white"

What do YOU think? Do you care?

What shirts are you talking about? Any pictures?

BTW, I am opposed to anybody wearing anything made by A&F. If I see someone wearing them, I am offically free to hate them.

I thought they were pretty tasteless.

Pretty soon they'll be making T-shirts that say,

"Joe Black's Chicken Shack - We'z Got Ribz Too!"

What is A&F?
Never heard of them or any controversy.

The quote seems to have descended from the words of an Australian politician, post WWII who quipped in reference to the White Australia Policy: "Two Wongs don't make a white."

I don't know what you're talking about but it sounds plain stupid. The best jokes are funny but noy offensive. A regular joke is funny but offensive. This isn't a joke - it's not funny and it is offensive.

BTW
Am I considered Asian for that matter?

Hmm. I guess Israel is technically part of Asia, but they were referring to Chinese, Japanese, Korean Asians.

If anyone likes, I can give them the finger as I drive home tonight.

I don't think it will help much, but I am willing to do it for the cause.

It shocks me that the company thought that these shirts would be a hit with Asians. Did they not ask any? Did the one Asian on the focus group happen to like them or something? Makes me think that 'market research' is still being done by people who don't understand what the word research means.

They are funny, however the only way they would be acceptable is if it was an actual Wong Bros. Laundry. And they used the shirt for THEIR advertising.

But, used by A & F it is offensive.

Let's not forget about the sexually-oriented pictures they used in their catalog. I've seen some of the pictures (FOX News, "O'Reilly Factor") and they aren't something that a 12-year-old should be buying at their favorite clothing store.

I think they're talking about A & F as in Abercombie & Fitch ?? For some reasons americans dig so much on that brand :p , but I never know why, .As a foreigner I find GAP & Guess better (for American brands), but that's just my taste :)

If it's any consolation to you, I only wear brands that I know how to spell, much less say.

I need to respond to this. I'd say the quality of a joke is independent of the amount of offensiveness. But when a joke is offensive (or can be), it better be good! And this one isn't really that funny.

[anti-GAP rant]

Gach. I hate GAP. GAP is the second most evil corporation on the planet. For the sake of the future, we must destroy the Ned shop.

Worst of all is their fleeces. I once saw a female specimin of the Homo Nedus species wearing a neon yellow GAP fleece. I hate fashion, but most of all, I hate GAP.

I have stopped buying clothing that advertises for the company that sells it. I have started to buy Army items exclusivly...and no I don't mean camo, I mean T-shirts and such that say US Army on them. That is something that I can proudly wear, and buy for less also. Unfortunately I have yet to find them off post!
