Map Grid: On or Off?

Do you play with the grid on or off?

  • Always ON. I can't tell where anything is, otherwise.

  • Mostly On. I turn it off occasionally, for screenshots, or whatever.

  • Always OFF. Those criss-crossing lines distract me.

  • You can toggle the grid lines On/Off?

I rarely have any trouble telling how much city radii overlap or similar, nor with moving units the wrong way.

Something that does not too unfrequently cause me to move units the wrong way is having my right hand on row higher or lower on the nummeric keypad than I think. This is of coursed caused by repeatedly moving my hand form the mouse to the keypad and back without looking. They should be making the arrow symbols on the keys in shallow relief ...

Luckily for me, I'm a lefty. (include Lefty Scaevola jokes here. :p) I move the mouse with my left hand, and use the keypad with my right hand. I also use my left hand to switch to ALT-TAB to switch to notepad or Paint Shop Pro 3 for quick editing.

ctrl g turns the map grid on and off...

I turn it on only when I have to plan out city placement. Otherwise it is too distracting (with so many other things on the screen.)

Hmmm... I usually keep it off 'cause I don't like how it looks, but it would be quite useful for checking city overlap. Maybe I'll start turning it on now. The stuff you learn at CFC...

I usually keep it off, but I turn it on after I move in the wrong direction and walk of a road

I also turn it on to plan things

I turn them on mainly for locating good city spots with as little overlapping as possible, otherwise there off

Always on. It dont bother me and it helps alot too. This si just really advanced chess. IF every square were different like no 2 grasslands touching then it could go off. BUt i ALWAYS leave it on. I dont have that problem like anarres.

I leave my civ 3 on all day and night. I save in case it crashes but the acient music puts me to sleep at night.

While the map is prettier with the grid off, I need it on for city placement, movement, etc. and it's easier to just leave it on than to toggle back and forth.

I appear to vote with the majority. The grid lines are helpful for planning city locations, counting steps to a particular spot and such, but they are not the nicest part of the game. Sometimes I toggle them on, plan and count what I wanted and then forget to turn them off. They are not that obstructive. Then a little while later I wonder what is causing that headache:crazyeye:.

Always on unless i totally forget to turn it on at the beginning of the game. Maybe there's a 'uncovered' ini setting that'll let you keep it on, like the video mode setting

Always off.

While I knew the grids existed, I've never bothered to try them. I like the look of the game with the grid lines off. After playing the game for about 5 months, I am getting pretty good at figuring things out without any extra lines on the screen.

Do you use Ctrl-G?

As for this current poll, I said all the time.

How many pages back are those polls? The newest one is from October of last year! I don't expect anyone to go looking farther back than a few months for a "recent" thread about a subject. ;)

There is a familiar search button located in the lower right-hand corner. And since getting cable, it's been a lot harder to resist being around here and searching and posting a lot more.
