Map size settings - gigantic max size and can't override?

Hi, trying to start a new game with Custom Game. I have read there are map bigger than "Gigantic" and that you can use the override option in Smartmap to make them even bigger, but both options seem disabled for me?

The biggest map size is Gigantic (with only 16 civs by default), and there are no override options bigger than 144x96. With other mods I could go with bigger overrides.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Also is it normal that Gigantic only gives you 16 civs by default? In vanilla I believe it's 25 or something

You can adjust the number of default civs somewhere in XML. I sometimes put "40" for Duel, when playing a "super-crowd" for "testing purposes", loool.
Or you can simply add (or remove) more civs by hand - click on the most-left tab to switch its status, adding is done via the most-bottom civ.

Override depends on the custom map script you are using, check all of them - some definitely may allow bigger maps (as in, you can input any numbers for sizes).
But memory consumption will kill it anyways, so no idea why you even bother.

Thanks. So there is no "non standard" way to play with more than 16 civs? Is the game only optimized for this?

Compared to other mods and even vanillla the "gigantic map" (which is the biggest size) seems so small

Did you read my reply at all?
You can ADD up to 40 total civs MANUALLY when playing a custom map.
You can also do the opposite - literally REMOVE any number of civs (even ALL of them besides your own).
See the screenshots.
As of map sizes, I just checked: seemingly, they removed the script that allowed totally custom map sizes, oh well.
